Do you know much about Oprah denying Christ?

However, it is my claim that it is Biblical
Hold on - you are claiming that sola scriptura is Biblical?

There are a number of problems with that

i) No, it’s not
ii) Even if it was, that proves nothing - save the fact that you have a document which authenticates itself. That is circular logic.
and it is my belief, based on many interactions with Catholics on this topic that you’re basing it on what you’ve been told sola scriptura is, rather than what we actually believe.
Let’s be honest - there is no “we” here; which of the 35,000 different flavors of Protestant are you? “Sola Scriptura” means “scripture alone” - and that seems to be what you are saying it means.

But, please, tell me what you believe about this central issue. And then let’s debate and discuss that - start by telling me how sola scriptura is Biblical.
Good for them. That still doesn’t make it Biblical.
But it does make it true - which is the more important issue. Non-Catholic Christians (such as yourself) are wrong on a great many issues. And sola scriptura and the issue that people can be saved without explicit, conscious knowledge of Jesus are two issues personal to you, it seems.

Hold on - you are claiming that sola scriptura is Biblical?
OK. Let’s go over what I said: “It* is *my claim that it is Biblical”.
i) No, it’s not
What a brilliant argument. Of course I’m convinced, now.
ii) Even if it was, that proves nothing - save the fact that you have a document which authenticates itself. That is circular logic.
It isn’t circular logic at all. It’s perfectly acceptable to determine what the Bible says by examining the Bible.

Oh, we’re up to “35,000” now? I would have thought you’d abandon that argument when it was debunked.
But it does make it true
So, let me get this straight: if the something is Unbiblical but the Catholic church teaches it anyway, you’re going to believe that it’s true in spite of the fact that it’s not Biblical?
And sola scriptura and the issue that people can be saved without explicit, conscious knowledge of Jesus are two issues personal to you, it seems.
No.

What a brilliant argument. Of course I’m convinced, now.
Given the fact that I’ve read the Bible from cover to cover, haven’t found evidence of sola scriptura, and you haven’t given me any evidence either - can you blame ME for not being convinced?

Why don’t you give me the Biblical quote that supports it, please? You might like to check the article I posted earlier in the thread which addresses most of the common misconceptions.
It isn’t circular logic at all. It’s perfectly acceptable to determine what the Bible says by examining the Bible.
But it’s not perfectly acceptable to advance sola scriptura by saying that the Bible says that - because that IS circular logic. The Qu’ran claims to be inspired - but does that mean it is? The Book of Mormon claims to be inspired - but it’s not.
Oh, we’re up to “35,000” now? I would have thought you’d abandon that argument when it was debunked.
I have yet to see anything debunking it - and I have seen plenty of evidence which suggests that number is accurate;

Unbiblical and non Biblical are two different things. Unbiblical would be something like the rapture - not only is it not found in the Bible, but it is against certain things which ARE in the Bible.

Not Biblical simply means that it’s not found in the Bible - such as the details of the doctrine of the Trinity.

The Catholic Church teaches nothing which is against the Bible - although there is plenty of Christian doctrine which never made it into the Bible.

And can you please define what you believe? Because, so far, you have yet to support a single point or, indeed, define your religious beliefs. What do YOU mean by sola scriptura? What do YOU understand regarding salvation for those who never heard of Christ?

Exactly Joeblow it is your claim, But speaking for myself i dont go by your claim I go by the bible and the bible says dont do it. (SS) Just like I dont go by Oprahs claim to think outside of the box. Because whats shes really saying is think outside of you Church which again to me (MY CLAIM) is again going against the bible. The bible says obey the Church and the Churchs teachings, it also says stay away from anyone or anything that can turn you away from God. Yes we are to try to help eachother find God, but for those who dont follow him he says to shake the dust from your feet and MOVE ON.

Dear Morningkill,

I truly had no idea about sola scriptura when I posted my comments. I would never wish to spread any type of heresy!

Unfortunately, after researching it online, I still don’t completely understand why the Catholic Church teaches against it -
DSF
well, for one thing, Christianity was not originally spread through Scipture but through preaching… (tradition)…There were not individual bibles until 1440 when the printing press was invented… and even then, it ws too expensive for most people to own one… Christianity began and survived as Jesus intended it to… through the Church… the Church came before the Bible… the written Bible as we know it. New Testament writings were not begun until about 40 years after Christ ascended into Heaven… and even then, only the Church had these writings…

Funny how the opinion of a certain misguided celebrity has become akin to the Good Housekeeping stamp of approval in western culture. Goes with all that hero-worship garbage in the media, I suppose.

Oprah Winfrey’s show is based on the same formula that made WWF wrestling big: conflict and heightened emotion. Gender feminism sells a lot of daytime commercial ads…

A point of correction: one poster characterized various “secular-humanist” views as “leftist”. As a good Catholic and lifelong leftist, I can authoritatively and unequivocally (and humbly 🙂 ) state that this is a gross misunderstanding. Not only are views such as New Age-ism etc not in the least leftist, but the Catholic Church holds many genuine “leftist” views such as the right to a living wage, the right of workers to organize, etc. Check your Catechism…

God bless!

Does she believe in abortion? This one question would put everything in perspective period. How much can a person adore Christ if that same person condones abortion. So anyone who thinks that murdering a baby is friends with our Savior Jesus Christ has another thing coming. All the money in the world doesn’t make you smarter then anyone else. You just can’t change things to suit you.

left, right, these are political terms of division. I’m done with both. When someone asks, I simply tell them I’m Catholic. I fit in where Pope Benedict XVI said yesterday:

*“Our world has grown weary of greed, exploitation and division, of the tedium of false idols and piecemeal responses, and the pain of false promises,” he continued.

“Our hearts and minds are yearning for a vision of life,” the Pontiff affirmed, “where love endures, where gifts are shared, where unity is built, where freedom finds meaning in truth, and where identity is found in respectful communion.” *

As for Oprah, she subscribes to every New Age religious fad the way she subscribes to every new “miracle” weight loss remedy. I refuse to watch her show because both she and her show are simply about one thing…$$$$$$$$$$$.

Hi

I don’t think we should get argumentative. What we need to do is love and then let us examine the facts and history. The printing press was only invented in the 1600s. Before that we had tradition by word of mouth and of course **the Scriptures emanated from tradition **and the Monks would hand write copies of the Bible and this would take an awfully long time. These are facts. We believe both Holy Scripture and Tradition of the Church (not traditions of men). Let us look at all these facts with a spirit of wanting to seek the truth and not to win arguments.

Whoever you are you have come to the right place. Catholic Answers has a huge amount of books and information and ask the right questions and then READ the answers and pray for the Holy Spirit to help you. Have an open mind and heart and let the Spirit
lead you.

Cinette…I commend you for your nice post but I think he is on here to convince you and not the other way around.

left. I refuse to watch her show because both she and her show are simply about one thing…$$$$$$$$$$$.
i am tempted to agree… only problem is, she has so much of that, it could be she is bored by $$… Do you think??? 🤷

I think it depends what day of the week it is.
If people with money were against abortion then many people would agree with them. It comes down to money equals success equals knowledge for these people. That is how this society thinks. Lets follow and worship the fame and fortune.

Oprah promotes the Secret and The Course in Miracles–both of which are anti-Christian

I think like a lot of people with money, fame, and power, she still yearns for God, but is not willing to give up the sins in which she is entrapped.

So, she tries to fill that yearning with this anti-Christian, feel good, demonically inspired new age garbage, but it will never give her peace.

Pray for her conversion. Imagine if Oprah became a devout Catholic.

As it is, God has given her many gifts and she has abused them. Hopefully, through our prayers, she may gave the contrition to turn away from her sins and turn to God–even if it is at the last moment of her life.

I tend to agree with that. I’ve said before, I think she has everything she could ever want (physically) but still finds that is “not enough”. She’s searching in the wrong place.

good point…

So now we know who to go after in our evangelizing!! 🙂

Does Oprah Have the Last Word?
Guest Sharon Lee Giganti
Description

BIOGRAPHY: Former New Thought “insider”, Sharon Lee Giganti is committed to exposing the hidden dangers of the New Thought Movement and its’ widely spreading philosophies.
After suspecting that her New Age influence and teaching might have unwittingly played a part in such horrific tragedies as murder and suicide, Sharon finally realized how life threatening their occult methods could be, and returned to the Catholic Church.
Now a certified Catholic Catechist and postulant of The Holy Family Institute, Sharon’s eye-witness testimony reveals the hazardous aspects of recent New Thought block-busters such as, “The Secret”, “A Course in Miracles” and Eckhart Tolle’s “A New Earth”— and, in doing so, actually reinforces the saving Truths of our Catholic Faith.
Anyone writing posts on this thread should listen to the Catholic Answers show quoted above. The guest on the show, Sharon Lee Giganti, also was on the July 4 show. She was so spectacular that she was called back for the “entire 2 hours” on July 14. By listening to those shows I guarantee you will have the answer to the title question, “Do you know much about Oprah denying Christ?” If you listen to the shows you will hear that murder and suicides happened because of the garbage Oprah is promoting. I highly recommend you listen to what Sharon Lee has to say. She has been there and witnessed the very worst.

I can’t listen to these shows right now… No Catholic radio stations around…

i have not doubt that this is true… although i have never heard of it before… but i do know that I myself have felt “suicidal” after being involved with… well, just being involved with “ordinary” people who don’t love Jesus… (this was a couple years ago… i now stay completely away from such pepole…)…

my point is that i know how frail we humans can be… and how much something can influence us even when we think we are so “strong” in Jesus… The world, the flesh and the devil are formidable enemies… We cannot overcome them without calling out to Jesus… Just uttering his name when confused… overhwelmed… etc… can do wonders… 🙂
