Ahh, Shoshana! You’ve gone deeper than I on this issue of Fr. Corapi. Yes, it is beyond just obedience of the Magisterium. It is also the test, as you put it, of carrying out that obedience in our walk with Christ. AND - I totally agree that if Fr.'s “facts” were purported to actors - they’d dismiss his teachings immediately. Sad, but true. Carry on, Fr. Corapi!!😃

Amber:
I agree with what you said. As for one of the other posters, I agree with mostly with what he said too. However, I don’t think we could find fault with his (Fr. Corapi’s) opinion because he doesn’t teach opinions - only facts. I think that’s where some people go wrong. They don’t know their catechism and think Fr. is preaching what “he” thinks, and not what “is” fact. That’s what I like about Fr. Corapi - obedient to the letter of the Magisterium!👍
mom4truth,

Great point!

Catholic Priests, unlike many of our Protestant friends… are not allowed to deviate from the Magisterium and interject their own personal opinions (in conflict with Catholic teachings) …We, Catholics, do not believe in personal interpretation of the Bible, which is personal interpretation of Christianity…that is a Protestant thing… Being a good Catholic (Christian) is all about surrender….We must all completely surrender to Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church.

We all have free-will and some of us can and do disagree with aspects of Catholicism, but when we do, we are the ones in error, not the Church. Everything I have ever heard from Fr. Corapi is consistent with the Magisterium, Catholicism and Christianity…, which is all one and the same thing…Fr. Corapi, is a great defender of Truth…Therefore, he is a great defender of the Catholic Church…

Peace 🙂

good point! people may think he is offering his crazy opinion when in fact it is the teaching of the Church! so few are willing to actually teach the kindergarten basics to most of us kindergarten-level Catholics so the hard stuff is all but foreign.

Glad someone agrees with me (and a few others of us out there). I don’t get it - what’s so hard to understand about Fr. Corapi??? The issue isn’t really Father, himself, but the teachings of our faith! Am I right or not?😃

You are Correct! 👍

Fr. Corapi’s shows are wonderful. I make it a point to be in front of the television/computer every Saturday and Sunday night so I don’t miss anything. I almost hung up on one of my friends a couple of weeks ago because I realized it was 10:00. 😊 Anyway, I just wish that we had more priests that wouldn’t hold back for fear of offending someone. We can never have too much truth. Especially when it relates to salvation. Preach on, Father!

you’re right. it’s difficult to fathom that people actually have such issues with him. to label someone in error, spreading lies, just because you don’t like the underlying message is really sad. but in talking the catholic church with someone else, they honestly said that it is really hard for them to follow the rules, commandments, of the church. to me, that is more honest to fess up that you can’t find the narrow gate, than to criticize someone who is trying to show you the way thru the gate.

Dunno 'bout you, but my week doesn’t seem complete without Fadda John yelling at me. 😃

Next thread will be about Fr Groeschel calling some catholics ‘stupid’!!  (because there are times when I AM stupid! 😉 )

Fr. Corapi is an intelligent man, doubtless sincere. However, when he comes on EWTN I change channels.
Only a Catholic who is not completely following all the teachings of the Church might think what you are thinking.

I don’t know if you are following everything the Church teaches. But chances are you might be on the “lukewarm” side if you don’t like Father Corapi’s approach. I don’t think you would like to be spit out of the mouth of God.
Why? Not precisely sure. I find him offensive in what strikes me as his arrogance.
No. I would call it more along the lines of “proclaiming Jesus Christ will all BOLDNESS!” That is what the disciples did after the Holy Spirit came down on them. There is a prayer that is prayed after every Mass on EWTN. In the prayer we ask for God to send laborers to the harvest so they can preach the Gospel with all boldness. Well, we have Father Corapi! He preaches Jesus Christ with all boldness and that’s what we need.
And he often expresses harsh and unfair judgments. I believe he is not an asset on EWTN and alienates those who are not the most faithful Catholics.
So I guess you are not the most faithful Catholic? You said you turn the channel when you see him, I would call that being alienated. Only thing is, you alienate yourself when you change the channel. There is a reason for that. You need to examine why that is. I think you need to examine your concious. I don’t think Father Corapi has ever expressed unfair judgments on anyone.

Gees, and I always thought Fr. Corapi was pretty mild.

No fire and brimstone condemnations.

Seems like he actually explains things, blesses people, and asks us to pray always.

Seems pretty mild to me.

And he uses self-deprecating humor … if he can do it, then anyone can do it.

If he can recover from having done dumb things, then there is hope for each of us!

Thanks Roy, you bring up another good point as to what my problem is with him. There’s no doubt he loves the faith heart and soul but I feel his message is wrong at times.
Fr. Corapi’s message is never wrong. He might not use the best approach at times but his message is never wrong. You and Roy don’t like his approach and some of what he has to say about the Catholic faith and how some Catholics don’t live out their faith like they should. All he wants to preach is the Truth. And in Father’s famous words, the Truth is not something, it’s someBODY, the Truth is Jesus Christ. He is not wrong about Jesus Christ.

You’re right. He does ask us to pray for him. And he tells us that he prays for us. I like that he places us in the Immaculate Heart of Mary; this way he can’t forget to pray for us, instead he leaves it up to Mary to remember all of us. 😃

About his self-deprecating humor, do you remember when he talked aobut his IQ? LOL That was funny.

AlegraFe:

Amen to your statements! I think people just don’t want to hear what they need to hear. They only hear what they “want” to hear and what fits in with their particular lifestyle. That’s why I say: don’t be Catholic then! If you won’t even TRY to abide by the teachings of the Magisterium, then why are you even calling yourself a Catholic? That’s what Fr. tries to get across, too. No cafeteria Catholics. Christ didn’t come to tell us: you can live by this Commandment if you “want” to, if it makes you feel good, etc. Get over it, people! Wake up before it’s too late. Learn your faith and if you don’t like it, move on!😛
