Do you pray the Rosary clockwise or counter-clockwise?

Counter-Clockwise, all my little rosary books pointed in that direction. Hum…

I’ve always wanted to know for sure, though! 😃
 
I do the rosary counter-clockwise. I think because I’m right-handed.

My husband thinks I might do it clockwise though if I lived in the southern hemisphere???:whacky:
 
I pray it clockwise because I’am used to do it so! I think it’s the intention that counts, not if it is prayed clockwise or counter-clocwice! :coffee:

I’d say counter-clockwise. Don’t know if this is right, but I was never taught how to pray the Rosary, and the way it hangs down I just happen to do it that way.

Counter when using the Rosary beads. While driving I use the fingers on my right hand from pinky to thum and then to the left hand from pinky to thum. Slight pressure on the wheel to keep track.

Do you know how many decades it takes for you to drive to your frequent destinations? Do you ever slow down so you could complete the Rosary without rushing?

Meggie, you made me laugh…“most of the time I get past the apostles creed and fall asleep so its neither direction for me…”

And I thought I was the only one who fell asleep while praying the Rosary in bed! What a delicious way to fall asleep, though.

I pray it counter clockwise…don’t know why.

I love what you said about falling asleep Meggie! My grandmother always said if you fall asleep saying the rosary…the angels finish for you! God Bless!
 
Counter-clockwise. Couldn’t say why, except that I almost always pray it kneeling with my hands folded, so its a function of gravity on a certain respect (could be either right or left depending on how you look at it). Then again, I suppose I reach for the right bead because I’m right handed, and going for the left bead would mean reaching across the center…
 
There’s no option for me. I usually hold the beads in front of me in my left hand, palm facing me, with the uncounted beads draping over the front, the counted beads falling down across my palm. At each Hail Mary, my left thumb grabs the next bead and pulls it towards me.

I’ve never heard a rationale for either CW or CCW being the “correct” way. Reading the posts here, I suspect, with the exception of those who were taught to do it one way, this is governed by your dominant hand. Right-handed people tend to pray CCW, lefties CW.
 
I have always done it counter clockwise, which may be strange considering I am left handed and fingering the beads on the right side.

I simply do it that way because it was the way I learned it.
 
Counter clock-wise. Unless I’m in the southern hemisphere, then I go clock-wise.

I am right-handed and I do it clockwise. I just started doing the Rosary a few days ago and it is a wonderful experiance. Clockwise is just the more natural and comfortable way for me since I picked it up and did it without thinking.
 
Counterclockwise, but I’m sure our Blessed Mother doesn’t care which way we do it- she’s no bureaucrat!

That medal is called the “center,” or sometimes the “centerpiece.” (Just in case you were wondering.)

I’m a rosary geek 🤓
 
Counter-clock wise. I was always under the impression this is the way to do it I guess. I also like my center medal to face up when I am praying the rosary, and the only way to do that is to go counter clock wise.

Never gave it any thought until today!👋

Yup, only do tapes in the car as the beads led me to sleep. It is a great way to end the day!!👍:clapping::yup:
 
I go clockwise, probably because I learned from a picture I saw on the internet, and also because clockwise seems more “right” than anti-clockwise.

It makes absolutely no difference. The rosary can be said without a “rosary.” The rosary has next to nothing to do with the beads that are used for helping one to keep track of where one is. There should be no superstitions attached to a devotional object such as a set of rosary beads.
 
I start with whichever bead is on top. If I grabbed the one on the bottom, the one on top would fall and the one I grabbed would now be on top!! 😃
 
I said clockwise but now I’m not sure. When I get home, I’ll have to figure it out.
