Do you pray the Rosary clockwise or counter-clockwise? In other words, do you begin the first decade with the bead on the left side of the front of the medal or on the right side?

Do you have any special reason for the method you use?

I pray the rosary counter-clockwise. I do not know if there is a “correct” rotation or not but this is just how I was taught. The important things are the prayers and meditations though so I have never really thought about which way to circulate around the rosary.
God bless.

Me too! I guess it’s because the right side seems the right side to start.

God bless.

Me too… I only found out recently that more people pray it starting from the left… Quite frankly, it doesn’t make a whole lot of difference…it’s they praying that counts…

Old Story: A child asked his grandpa whether he slept with his beard over the covers or under the covers. Grandpa said it didn’t matter, but then never really slept comfortably again because he was so conscious about whether it was under or over. . . DON’T DO THAT TO ME WITH THE ROSARY!!!

I do it counter clockwise for no particular reason. That’s just how it works out:)

I pray it counter-clockwise. That’s just because that’s the way it’s taught in my little book (which is where I learned how to pray the Rosary) “Pray the Rosary” by Rev. J. M. Lelen, Ph.D. I am also right-handed, and it is comfortable to use my right hand to hold the beads and go around counter-clockwise.

I always hold the Rosary in my left hand, so I guess I go clockwise. I dont think there is a right or wrong way. What would be the significance of either direction?

its usually clockwise for me. Theres a correct direction to pray the rosary?

Counter-clockwaise
That’s thw way I was taught in early grade school WAY BACK in 1968.

My Goodness. So many say they pray the Rosary counter-clockwise.

I am one of the older ones on this site and I never did see anyone ptay the Rosary clockwise. Where did that come from?

Well now being almost 70 and to be asked this kind of question I had to get my Rosary and after looking at it several times as St. Joseph is on one side and Mary is on the other side, I thought which way do I pray the Rosary and then it dawned on me I am right handed and so naturally I go counter-clock-wise but that doesn’t make me any wiser. LOL

I dunno! I use any of my hands to handle my rosary, but in any way, it’s soo natural for me to pray clockwise. I have always prayed like that, but that’s just me; I like to stick out 😛

most of the time I get past the apostles creed and fall asleep so its neither direction for me…

I pray it counter-clockwise, but I never really thought about it. It’s just easier and more comfortable for me, as I’m right-handed, and it’s also the way I learned to pray it.

I’m left-handed, but I use my right hand to hold the beads! Go figure! I go counter-clockwise – that’s the way my Rosary brochure instructs.

Meggie, you made me laugh…“most of the time I get past the apostles creed and fall asleep so its neither direction for me…”

And I thought I was the only one who fell asleep while praying the Rosary in bed! What a delicious way to fall asleep, though.
