Do you support the Minutemen? Well don't

The day will come …

How can people throw away their compassion for thier politics?
ā€œFather Edward ā€˜Bud’ Kaicher, pastor of the suburban San Diego parish, has extended a helping hand to day workers seeking employment in the area, and for this he has been
displayed in effigy as Satan. Worse, the right-wing brigade of Minutemen has harassed Catholics going to church, used bullhorns to spout their invective, have uttered patently anti-Catholic remarks at parishioners and have even stooped so low as to intimidate little kids on the day of their First Communion.

I am a Minuteman (not active duty cause I’m underage.) I have never experienced any bigotry because I am a Catholic. I have sent a letter to the Minutemen in regards to this issue. While I completely and 100% disagree w/ the Church’s position on illegal immigration, this is not necessary…however the Catholic League does tend to spin things…

Baptists could just as easily point to Foxe’s Book of Martyrs and say, see the bigotry: well don’t support Catholicism then.

It seems that this is only one group of minutemen, although I could be wrong. I know some Catholic churches have angered many people for taking in, or at least offering to take in, immigrants. The Minutemen in this story are clearly in the wrong, but it does not make their cause (against illegal immigration) wrong.

I would call in to question which Minuteman group this is. It porbably is NOT the official Minutemen of Jim Gilchrist who is a devout Catholic. This is probably one of the many rogue minutemen groups.

It’s not the first time I have seen video of despicable behavior by Minutemen. The Minutemen are nothing more than the modern version of ā€œIrish need not apply.ā€

Catholics who support the Minutemen are just fooling themselves-- especially if they’re ethnically Irish.

You are mistaken. We have the right to defend our nation against invaders seeking to take the jobs of countless Americans. The Church says we need to rid the world of poverty. The Minutemen are doing nothing but trying to secure our border so poor Americans have a shot at making a living.

Excuse me, young man. It’s the United States that took the Southwest by provoking an aggressive war with Mexico. The invaders, in other words, were American. But for illegal immigration and aggressive war, we would not even hold this territory at all.

Quite apart from that, you should ask yourself if the Jesus we worship would support a movement like the Minutemen which, you admit, has many rogue elements.

You already volunteered that you disagree with the church’s position on immigration. You are deceiving yourself, and I would suggest some serious introspection and reflection before you think about religious life.

.
And the Mexicans took the Southwest from the Apaches and the Apaches took it from the Anastazi and they took it it, IIRC , from the lost tribe of Israel…

And Mexico was teaken from the Spanish who took it from the Aztecs who took it fraom the mayans… How far back do you want to go?..

Only far back enough to show that the Minutemen are a stupid movement with stupid premises and a stupid purpose-- and I have done so.

So it was OK for mexico to take the land but not do for anybody else to do so. The minutemens Premise is that people should not be allowed to enter the country illegally. What is stupid about that?

The Catholic Church teaches that patriotism is part of the virtue of natural piety. The Mexican Government ceded the territory of the Southwest to the United States of America in a lawful treaty recognized in fact by the Vatican, which quickly changed the episcopal organization of these then-sparsely populated territories.

The Catholic Church is not against the United States of America. The Catholic Church recognizes that the United States of America is the legitimate sovereign power over the land of the Southwest, and that America has the right to enact civil laws – including border laws – over this land. The Catholic Church teaches that it is immoral to break civil laws – including border laws.

Catholics are called to be patriotic citizens. Catholics are called to preach the Gospel to all nations, not to provoke people against the Gospel by challenging the natural rights of their nation.

This is what the U.S. did to Mexico, but it’s apparently a waste of time to argue that here.

Very simple question.

**Is there any evidence that the Catholic Church supports what the Minutemen do?
**

Excuse me, but who are you to lecture me on my relationship with Jesus!? My political beliefs do not have to always gell with the Church. I am 100% pro life and am very active in my parish. Do NOT try to lecture me on my discernment. That is NONE of your business.

No I did not admit that. There are splinter groups which give us and Mr. Gilchrist a bad name.

More than a waste of time, it’s scandalous and therefore immoral. It’s also untrue, because the United States never attacked any nation in the name of Holy Mother the Church.

On the same night, an Irish Catholic blows up a Protestant bar and an Irish Protestant blows up a Catholic bar. Both terrorists die in the attacks. In each attack, one innocent baby is killed. By some miracle of grace, both terrorists go to Purgatory, albeit for a long time. Who suffers greater torments? The Catholic. ā€œNot only did you know better than your Proddy brotherā€, says St. Peter, ā€œbut you brought a better cause into disrepute.ā€
