…actually not, I told you a story… even if the police were to find me holding keys of stolen vehicles, it is at best circumstantial–and I have the stupid defense, ‘what how those cars went missing?’

the catechism says it, it is rare but some do deserve the death penalty but that is another thread
Pope Francis: the death penalty is inadmissible | National Catholic Reporter
If you are going to quote from the National unCatholic Reporter, most people here are not going to consider what that dissent organization says.

You would have made a better argument posting this from the National Catholic Register here:

Actually not. Every single time that confiscation of guns has been brought up it has been from your side (yeah, I went there!) 😜

Wait, so 60% of all guns related to crimes found in the hands of those who were caught after/during the perpetration of the crimes and being traced back to dealers… they just happened not to be missing, but misplaced? 'K, that makes sense!

DID THE DEALER BREAK THE LAW? Contrary to what a few progressives think, due process still applies.
Do you have proof for your statistic?

I fully concur with you, Phil.

My argument is that this 2nd right because of the threat of the monarch/s and that a well-armed militia would preclude the government from turning into an authoritarian regime is not valid.

And the SCOTUS affirms you are wrong, though you have the right to hold that position

Hence my car story!

The fact remains that guns don’t speed away on their own–and, as far as I’ve heard, there are no micro wormholes sucking guns right from the assembly lines.

we have been down this path. arrest the dealers. even the atf says it is only a small number of dealers.

you don’t want to blame anybody but the capitalist.

then arrest the bad eggs and the issue is solved

It really isn’t about the dealers. It is just a backdoor attempt at confiscation by reducing supply. It has nothing to do with safety. It is only about strong central government and the state over individual rights.

i know but he is using the small percentage of bad dealers to make his argument so just arrest them if they are breaking the law. not much will change.

He’s been saying it all along. He can’t provide proof.
This is a tactic whereby one tries to imply a systemic problem without showing evidence of specific instances.
This and an argument by hyperbole usually means a weak argument

Read up … look up John R. Lott. Lots of books and articles.

Such as “More guns, less crime”.

Again, do you recall what happened with the eron thing? Billions disappeared and what was the outcome? ‘don’t know hat happened’ ‘ok, no body’s to blame; print more money please!’

Money got printed; ‘just make sure that you use it for good purposes, you don’t even have to tells what, just say it was used for a good cause.’ Millions started to disappear… ‘oh, it was owed to them, they needed to get their bonuses and new air plane… you know, good cause, wink, wink.’

That’s the same problem.

Just wink, wink, and reload!

how do you regulate private sales when the buyer and seller won’t follow the rules?
You can’t but you can make it a High Level Felony punishable by Death if caught and convicted. At least that would provide some form of “Strategic Deterent”

Some things you don’t post on the Internet and hope to be alive the next year. Some things you only talk about on the street and discreetly.

Oh, I think an unbiased assessment of the money made by the civilian arms industry in the US versus other countries and a simultaneous assessment of the gun crime and homicide rates of those same countries gives it plenty of merit.
Only if one has evidence that arms manufacturers and dealers are intentionally promoting violence, selling arms illegally, and the like.
That has been alleged countless times on this thread without evidence or proof provided.

Gun ownership is a good thing. Making a profit is a good thing. Gun crime is not. Stop the criminal, not the law abiding
I completely agree.

Unfortunately, it seems that the answers that actually works is “make it harder for anyone to own guns”.

Through permitting and wait times, lawful owners can still obtain their firearms and crime rates DO drop. There’s just too much data to make any claim otherwise.

Most gun crime is committed by poor people. A $100 per year permit for, say, anything self-loading would save lives.

And, frankly, if a $100 per year permit is a little too stiff, you can’t afford to actually shoot anyway. My buddies and I blow twice that in ammo on a Saturday at the range.

We must make them harder to obtain, Jon. Period.
