No, actually your hate and bigotry are blinding you now, it wasn’t me who said that, it was just me who said that it was none of your business. It isn’t!!
I do have a cousin that is a Priest too though, God rest his soul and if he were alive on this earth, he would probably think the same thing though.
So you did lie to everyone that reads your post. Your cousin did not make that statement as you referred to.

Why are you on this forum lieing to everyone? I just give out factual statistical information that is obvious most don’t want to believe. Thats too bad! A catholic on this catholic forum lieing. If the pope knew this you would be in BIG TROUBLE! I would be scared if I was you! Gods watching your every word!

You say "Is pope benedict an extreme right wing catholic? I would say yes! He is certainly not liberal like most catholics in the united states, and other western cultures. I would then believe you would also say pope benedict is an extreme right wing catholic? Nothing wrong with that statement…its not a negative statement.
You have no idea of what you speak. Please stop spreading confusion.

There are no “right wing” or “left wing” Catholics. Only orthodox or heterodox.

What you are talking about, priests marrying,is an impossibility, just like ordaining women. It’s against the perpetual teachings of the Church. Not gonna happen, NEVER. Polls do not matter to the Magisterium.

Your ranting on this is obscures the fact that married men are ordained all the time, and function well as Catholic priests.

The only issue for faithful Catholics is whether the Latin Church should ordain married men as a regular practice.

God Bless

Its a little off post, but actually more and more people are comming back the CC. Then ever before. In the past they have left but now have found out that the CC is the true Church, Just look at today compared to even 3 years ago. Church is getting more and more people again,

So should the Church base disiciplines and doctrines based on what the Majority of catholics in the United States want? We represnt less than 10% of Catholics worldwide.

You wave around your alleged statistics of how many catholics support you view like it was the sword of excalibur. Who cares?

You have yet to tell us why you support married Priest other than your belief that that is what a majority of catholics want. I dont know about you but somewhere along line my Catholic Doctine voter registration card must have got lost in the mail

Jesus was sent on earth as a man, priests must follow his example.
Cath,

You keep trying to assign a divine mandate to celibacy that doesn’t work for the obvious reasons…the apostles and first priest were married men. There is NO divine mandate, and one can follow Christ’s example and be married…priests do it all the time.

Were you speaking for your “friends” here too when you said the part above that I bolded? I thought that was rather insulting to say of any Priest of any Rite.
This was in reference to those who think females should be ordained…it comes from the improper view that the priesthood is a position of power as oppossed to an opportunity to serve the People of God.

Clearly you still aren’t getting it, I am NOT the one who made that original statement to you, go back and read up
Also, I am neither afraid of God or the Pope and God is watching your every word too!.

Then clearly some people need to take their own advice and be more clear when they post, eh?

Yerusalym, Yes Peter was married before Christ made him a apostle. But think about it after Peter started the RCC. Now after Peter started the RCC now then it seems that Priests made the choice to follow CHrist. Thats when they no longer got married right, I dont recall any Popes ever being married, I can be mistaken
i really never checked into it but i will. But remember the Pope and Roman Catholic Priests have never been married as far as I know. Now of course ROman Catholic has many differences then just Catholic. You must remember that. And as far as our Pope he isnt doing anything any different then John Paul ll Its just he is not as gentle as John Paul. John Paul had a softer side to him at dealing with people. Our new Pope tells it like it is, he a shape up or ship out kinda guy. Hes not pulling any punches. I think thats why People misread alot of John Paul, he was more understanding sometimes. this one isnt, its his church and hes going to run it, and thats it. As much as i love John Paul maybe we need Pope Benedicts firmness. Then we will get the point. No one is going to push or change that man, If you ever get a chance read his book Jesus of Nazareth, amazing. just unreal the understanding of the faith this man has. I shouldnt say an understanding because that comes from the HS its his way of explaining it to us. He is a wonderful teacher.

Plus from what I understand, most Jewish men were Married back then and a lot of them did have celibate Marriages too.
One other thing, remember when Peter’s MIL was ill and afterwards, when she was healed she got up and waited on them?
The women didn’t get upset that the men were following Jesus and doing His will, they also did. As I already explained my position in earlier posts, I won’t bother to go into all of that again.

You say I wave around your alleged statistics of how many catholics support your view like it was the sword of excalibur. Who cares you say…

Its obvious you are not interested in what other catholics opinions are about the church, its obvious you are not interested in learning that a majority of catholics have different views then you, and its obvious you want everyone to believe what the pope teaches, but when others have a say you put your head in the sand. Its obvious you are very narrow minded and not interested in the truth because it doesn’t FIT what you want to believe.

My opinion of why I believe (like the majority of US catholic priests and the laity) of why a priest should allow celibacy to be optional. Read below…
Code:
For the past generation I have heard like most of the extreme shortage of priests worldwide. That is a fact(I know you don't like facts) and the numbers are dwindling quickly. I understand the vaticans stand on celibacy. I do understand that for various reasons there is a very high number of catholic priests that are struggling with their vocation. Many have left and many today are expressing themselves openly. This is where I have a problem with the church hierarchy. Instead of the pope/vatican trying to find out why priests are struggling the vatican continues this strong arm approach "do as we say" attitude. Its much better to find out a root cause of a problem then to strong arm someone. That never works. Priests are just like the rest of us. I sympathize with them. They are in a position thats run by high authority that is not interested in their personal problems. A bandaid solution is send him to a clinic, or a drunk tank. That still doesn't deal with his deep emotional issues he might be experiencing. If the vatican got rid of this "sword of excalibur like you say, maybe the church could make a compromise.

If the catholic church allows priests to marry in the eastern rite, and ex lutheran married men to become priests why not bend the rules a bit and go by the eastern rites rule. Whats wrong with that? As I said before centuries ago priests were allowed to get married. The popes of that time had no issue with that., even popes were married. I believe a priest would have a much more healthy attitude towards his vocation if he had the option to marry. Its not natural to be celibate. Ask any doctor. It works for other religious denominations no celibate rule. Sure they would experience marital problems just like the rest of us. They are no different.

There are many difficult issues today that good priests feel caught up in. One being the never ending sex abuse scandal. Priests have seen their bishops/cardinals lie, cover up and move sexually active priests from parish to parish never dealing with the issue. I have seen priests on Larry King who expressed themselves that the laity might believe they are a molester. Thats a difficult position to be in and maybe reason enough for a priest who quits because its difficult to deal with even though hes a good priest.

I sometimes talk down about the pope and vatican (many call him the rottweiler) because the pope acts like a union boss out of the 1940s. Do as I say attitude!. I don't like it when someone or people are intimidated. Your boss at work wouldn't talk like that to his employees or he wouldn't last long. He is just like the priests and nuns I had growing up that instilled fear into you. Just believe it they would scream. Well, that never worked I learned quickly. I am sure there are a lot of priests that lack maturity and fear the vatican/pope. Thats sad. I believe its time that the vatican takes a closer look at this celebacy rule and finds some compromise before the church splits into two factions.

Within a few years a new pope will emerge and might come up with some compromise that will keep priests in their vocation. Until then they continue to leave in great numbers. 25 years ago there were over 86000 priests in the USA. Today its around 44,00. Somethings wrong.

Priests were allowed to marry up until the 12 century. 39 popes of the past were married and fathered many children. It was ok then but not now…does that make sense? Not at all.

Currently over 50% 24,000 United States roman catholic priests recent poll favoured abolishing celibacy. A real split in the church. I am sure there are many priests in your diocese who also favour this.
Catholic disciplines and doctrines are not determined by polls. If you want a religion that determines its doctrines and disciplines by public opinion and “modern morals”, you should go join the Episcopal church. They have married priests, women priests, Muslim women priests, openly gay bishops with live-in lovers, all the stuff you would love.

Go for it and good luck.

I didn't know you were a racist. What have you got against Muslim women? Because someone is born in a different part of the world you are better then them? Your nuts! I treat everyone equally. The more I read the posts on this forum its obvious there is a lot of hatred towards anyone other then catholics. Thats bigotry, hatred and ignornace by any with that belief. I am sure there are ones on this forum who have a non catholic parent, or relative, or co-worker or neighbor who are not catholics. Do you tell them they are not going to heaven because they are not catholic. I hear that a lot on this forum. They talk big on this forum but would NEVER utter those words to the non catholics themselves. Big talkers. When I give out true information thats there for everyone to read all I hear is hatred or disbelief. Hopefully you treat all people with equal respect. But I don't see that on this forum. I see a lot of religious righteousness, ignornace of others, and bigotry. The catholic church is still teaching we are right and everyone else is wrong attitude.
You also say openly gay bishops with live in lovers. I guess you didn’t know that a large number of catholic priests/bishops are gay. Do you have a problem with that? If you weren’t so ignorant you know its not a chosen lifestyle. But its obvious jethro that your education and knowledge is lacking quite a bit. Next time you visit your doctor ask him/her if gay people choose their lifestyle. Its obvious you are blinded by your faith. Thats sad!

Would you do EVERYTHING the pope would command you to do? Waiting for your reply.

No, she is a white woman, ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church, who also, at the same time, practices the religion of Islam.
The catholic church is still teaching we are right and everyone else is wrong attitude.
Well, that’s because it’s true.
You also say openly gay bishops with live in lovers.
That’s a problem.
I guess you didn’t know that a large number of catholic priests/bishops are gay.
But they are celibate, and that’s what makes all the difference.

No.

It’s a decision they know they are making, and make willingly. It is a matter of obedience to the teachings of Christ’s Church as well - Christ was not married, and said there would be those who would renounce sex for the sake of God’s kingdom.

Deacons can be married - and there are some priests who are converts who are married (as Peter was). And women won’t ever be ordained - once again, it’s a matter of obedience to the Church, not popular thought.

my question to you pier. If you are so religious have you renounced sex for the sake of gods kingdom? If your answer is no you can see how hard it would be for someone else.

Off topic: Do you tithe? and give 10% of your take home pay to your catholic church weekly? I would believe if someone is very religious they wouldn't hesitate to give the 10% the church requests. There are over 800 catholic parishes in the north east that are tithing churches. I would believe you give at least 10% Pie every week.........waiting for your replies

Nobody is ever required to give personal information on the Internet, and you do not have the right to demand it in that sort of tone.
And it is against Forum rules to ask for personal information.

Well, that’s because it’s true.

That’s a problem.

But they are celibate you say. You don’t know that. I am sure many are and well just check out the sex abuse scandal #s. Also many priests/bishops have fathered illegitmate children. That information is available.

So because someone is born in Iran, Iraq, etc. and brought up in that faith, and you are born by the luck of the draw into a western christian culture, you are worthy and they are not? I never believed that. Call me non catholic call me catholic basher I don’t care. I treat all people equally. Did you know that before the middle of this century Islam will be the largest religion in the world. It is currently second. I have a few muslim friends. Very nice people.

And it is against Forum rules to ask for personal information.
Ok…no problem… mercygate. You should also post that lieing on this forum is not permitted. Not only is it a sin but deceitful. I hope you will consider that to post to that individual. Waiting for your reply

But they are celibate you say. You don’t know that.
I can be reasonably certain.
I am sure many are and well just check out the sex abuse scandal #s.
Less than a third the percentage of married men who abuse their own children. Less than half of the percentage of public school teachers who abuse their students. Less than half the percentage of sports coaches who abuse kids in the locker room.
So because someone is born in Iran, Iraq, etc. and brought up in that faith, and you are born by the luck of the draw into a western christian culture, you are worthy and they are not?
This particular person was born in the USA; we are not talking about someone who is racially Arabic and converted to Christianity. We are talking about a North American white woman who is practicing two different, contradictory religions at the same time.
I have a few muslim friends. Very nice people.
So do I. You’re right - they’re nice people. Very devout in their prayer life. Real Muslims would not think of attempting to practice both Christianity and Islam at the same time in the way that this Episcopalian/Islamic priestess is doing.
