The Eucharist is one of the most explicly defined teachings in scripture, that is misunderstood by Protestants.

Here is an excerpt from a fictitious version of the bible, intended to be sarcastic:

53 Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, if you think you are eating the flesh of the Son of Man and drinking his blood, you are an idolater, and you have no life in you.
54 “Whoever recognizes that I’m speaking figuratively here, even though I could not possibly have chosen a more misleading way to phrase it, is a true disciple, and he has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 “For the bread is not my flesh and the wine is not my blood.
56 “Whoever avoids this heresy remains in me, and I in him.
57 “Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the father, so the one who believes in me will live because of me.
58 “This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who believes in me will live forever.” (RFV).

ABSOLUTELY. “I WILL GIVE YOU MY FLESH TO EAT AND MY BLOOD TO DRINK”

The Eucharist is our spiritual food - it is Jesus. I still remember the words of our parish priest preparing me for my First Holy Communion (50 years ago)- It looks like bread - it tastes like bread - it looks like wine - it tastes like wine but it really and truly is the body and blood of Jesus.Never have I doubted - please God I never will.

Of course I believe the bread and wine become the BODY BLOOD SOUL AND DIVINITY of our LORD.

Jesus said it!..I believe it!! Not one single time did He ever lie to me.
And for those who don’t/can’t believe that this miracle can happen, just remember this…

God created ALL just by willing it, no pre-existing matter…
God created man from a pile of dirt…

Now if GOD could have done that, why should it be so hard to believe that a miracle happens every single mass with the bread and wine BECOMING our Lords BODY BLOOD SOUL AND DIVINITY?

Yes 100%, I fell away from the Catholic Church for many years, I tried going to a Protestants Church but felt empty. It wasn’t until I returned to my Faith that it was the Eucharist that filled that void. From this experience and reading John 6 it became very clear.

Faithful 2 Rome:
If I didnt, and what with all the scandals, I would have started my OWN church LONG AGO. The real presence is the ONLY thing that makes me hold on, in spite of the seeming attempts from the vast majority of clergy to drive many faithful away.
In my case, it would have been the liturgical abuse, the unorthodox preaching, and the lousy (and often unorthodox) music that would have driven me away. *Except for * the Real Presence of Our Lord in Holy Communion, which is available nowhere else. If the Real Presence weren’t real, the rest wouldn’t be worth the hassle and the disedification.

This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from one of the early Church Fathers:

“Therefore, when He has spoken and says about the bread, ‘This is My Body,’ who will have the nerve to doubt any longer? And, when He affirms clearly, ‘This is My Blood,’ who will then doubt, saying that it is not His Blood? Once, by His own will, He changed water into wine at Cana in Galilee; is He not worthy of belief when He changes wine into blood? … Do not judge the reality by taste but, having full assurance from faith, realize that you have been judged worthy of the Body and Blood of Christ. … Having learned these things, you have complete certitude that the visible bread is not bread, even if it is such to the taste, but the Body of Christ; and the visible wine is not wine, even if taste thinks it such, but the Blood of Christ” – St. Cyril of Jerusalem, A.D. 350, Mystagogic Catechesis 4:1,2,6,9

God bless!

I believe Jesus is present body, blood, soul and divinity under the appearance of bread and wine.

I believe that if God can create the world from nothing, that he certain can create His Son in the Eucharist. The fact that He does this creative act at the Mass bring forth heaven on earth. In heaven we will participate fully in the creative act.

Ummmm…Jesus isn’t created ( or re-created) in the Eucharist.
The ordinary substances of bread and wine actually become Christ’s Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.
Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity, always was. He was begotten, not made.
The mystery by which the bread and wine become Jesus’ Body and Blood is known as transubstantiation; in that although the appearance, taste, etc., of the substance hasn’t changed, we know that The Substance truly has changed.

The thing that is so great about our Catholic Faith — it uses the five senses … taste, touch, smell, hear, see!!! 👍

Panis Angelicas:
Yes, but the question just seemed to be worded a bit oddly to me. :hmmm:
So, I wanted to make it clear that I believe there’s nothing else “in” there “with” the Eucharist.:nope:
The Eucharist Is Jesus Christ. :yup:
That would be my position, too.

I truly do, full heart! I believe because it is the truth and if we truly believe in God we must believe an accept the truth.

Would love to get a response to this … and maybe an explanation of Why or Why not? 👍

And I am sure there are differing views~ So let’s try and give everyone room to expound!

😛
OBVIOUSLY this is sticky point or you would not have asked it. If you look at what the Eucharist represents from the Old Testament, it puts it in a clearer light, I believe. The Jews sacrificed a lamb, cooked it, and ate the flesh. The blood was smeared on their door way. If this had any significance, then it would naturally follow that the real Lamb would also be used in this way. Factor in the promise that Jesus said he would always be with us until the end of the age and you have a powerful one-two punch supporting this.

THe Jews never ate a symbol of the lamb’s flesh. Nor should we.

When Jesus broke bread at the last supper and said it was his flesh, it is highly unlikely that he gave the apostles part of his skin for them to eat. Rather, he gave them bread. If there is any symbolism to this at all it is that the bread was similar in physical construction to manna. But that is where the similarity ends.

We should not get hung up on this, for the main reason that scripture and tradition are very clear what was intended. If, in some completlely off chance that God never intended for anyone to believe that He was present in the Eucharist, He sure made it look pretty clear that He is.

Protestants reveal their basic problem of obstinance when they take a 1% chance that something is true and make it look like it is a 100% chance. Statistically, there will always be something about an issue that is at odds. But taking the Whole account of scripture AND Jewish history AND apostolic teaching into account, it is clear that God intended for us to believe that the Eucharist is what it is. There is a definite pattern emerging.

Hi javelin35: 👋

It isn’t a sticky point for me … but I know many Catholic’s that don’t believe in the real presence.

I thought it would be a great thread to hear the pros and cons (if they would be any  ).

Scott Hahn has a wonderful transcript of **The Fourth Cup ** that is just superb! Reading it gave me chills.

Correctly said, God does not create Himself. What a mystery, this being who creates. They are one and they create.

I know that Jesus is truely in the Eucharist for He has shown me.

One Mass does not go by without me saying to our Lord,“Please Lord, help me to believe that you are really present” “Help me to see with eyes of faith”

Several time now while sitting in the Chapel during Adoration, I saw our Lord in 3 D clear as day in the Monstrance. He has shown me many things but the most important is that He is truely present.

Yes, I do!

But I just wonder whether my reception of the Eucharist confirms this.

Here’s my point: If I truly believe this, why do I not prepare myself more appropriately? Why do I not spend more time in thanksgiving?

Tom
I certainly believe it. But like Tom, I often think I could do a better job of preparation. As well as a better job of evangelization others on the truth present in the Catholic Church. But I’m working on it.

Blessings.
