Do you wear jeans to Mass?

Never - always dress pants and dress shirt. Every week I meet someone who is more important than anyone else in the world. What an occasion!

Daily Mass, yes, Sunday Mass, no. Actually right now I’m wearing skirts all the time (those long crinkly ones with the drawstring) to accomodate my growing pregnant belly 🙂

Nope, my trusty charcoal grey, light woolen dress slacks worn to any number of weddings I’ve attended. Shiny shoes and a long sleeve button-down coller shirt, too. Jesus did remark that it’s not the things on the outside of men that matters, so I don’t worry myself about others because I only have control over me.

Old school, I guess. I’ve just got to show some effort beyond convenience whenever I sense it’s reasonable to expect such and when I can help it.

That was a beautiful post! You are so right!

Oh my. Not at all.

The point of me asking is that it seems to me that there are a lot of Anti-Catholic websites (so called Catholics that are in schism) that say the “problem” with Vatican 2 has led to people wearing jeans and being irreverent and those same people dont even know their faith or they would not be doing such a sacriledge.

I disagree. Some of the most devout people I have seen wear jeans.

No ill intent on my part to ask.
Ah, I see…

But you can not avoid the bashing that comes along with the asking of this question.

If people only answered the question then it would be ok, but most feel the need to go on and give reasons.

Not to pick on buffalo but…

Here is the inherent bashing in an answer.

So someone who might happen to wear jeans does not think this way?

This is the problem and it is why I refuse to answer it, afterall, its nobodies business here what I wear to Mass.

And one last question, what the heck does this have to do with Moral Theology?

I just realized I should have been clear at the start that the Jeans in question are not wacko jeans, but clean and in good condition.

I just got a call from my spouse and was reminded of the type with safty pins in them and bleach splotches (the kind you pay 20 bucks more for to look like they have been through WW2)

I just assumed everyone knew I meant good condition. 😃
I knew what you meant. 😃 I know that sometimes when I say things it comes out different than what I’m thinking. 😛

Well, yeah, I wear jeans to Mass. But, I only have one dress that fits. I wish I had a whole wardrobe of dresses and the presence of mind to always have one clean on Sunday (ok, housework in general not my strong suit).

This has made me wonder, though. We are invited to the Lord’s table and should be dressed appropriately. But, how can we draw people off the streets into Mass if they feel they will stick out like a sore thumb?

As a child growing up in a devout Catholic family, we always dressed up for mass. My mother and the rest of my sisters wore head coverings when we entered mass.
As I grew older and we pretty much became laid back when going to church. I seldom dress up going mass along with my own family. I am trying to get back to dress up but it is very hard to get my husband to dress up. He wears jeans and a shirt, and so do my children. I can’t do too much complaining or else I will turn my husband off and he will not go at all. I don’t want that to happen. So, I try and dress appropriately and make sure my children look presentable. I will not allow them to wear rip jeans and shirts that are not appropriate for mass.

Once again I failed. I’ll ask the mods to put it somewhere else., or if they can get rid of it.

I thought the responses here were great. Everyone was nice and it was fun to hear how some people think about this matter.
That is OK…everyone makes mistakes.
I rarely wear blue jeans at all because I feel like an old cow hand when I do. Mostly I wear jeans to do yard work or some other dirty work.

Thanks guys! I notifyed the mod that the post might need to be moved.

Have a good day!🙂

Thread moved from Moral Theology to Liturgy and Sacraments.

May God Bless You All Abundantly,

So, expressing an opinion that is contrary to someone else’s is inherently bashing them? Wow. People don’t have to take offense when someone disagrees with them. We are all free to have our own opinions and to express them. Tolerance has gone way too far.

For myself, I grew up wearing jeans and sneakers to my non-denominational church. Everyone did. Now that I attend Mass I feel differently. My husband thinks it is very important to show respect. As some have mentioned, you are in the real presence of Jesus when you go to Mass. We like to dress up. I wear a skirt if I can. I personally don’t have a problem with other people wearing casual clothes as long as they are presentable and not revealing. (I’ve seen some teenage girls wearing the most inappropriate mini skirts.) I do have a problem with altar servers wearing sneakers and Eucharistic ministers dressed like their at the beach. They at least should dress respectfully.

I never go to Mass in Jeans. What I tell my kids is…you dont have to dress up to go to Mass but you should dress respectfully. To some jeans are their finest clothes and that’s ok. The key is GO TO MASS…well that my two cents.

Option A for me, except for Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, when I wear either dress pants or khakis. My standard everyday wear is neat, clean jeans and a tucked in polo shirt, so that’s what I end up wearing to Mass.

Option A - my best jeans and a shirt with a collar and buttons. Unless I’m reading (about twice a month on Sunday and average two Saturday 9am masses) in which case it is suit, tie, and dress shoes.

I don’t wear jeans to mass. Mostly because I’m in jeans all week long so on Sunday I like to dress up - like it’s an occasion. Also, my husband dresses up, so I want to match him.

I don’t give a hoot what the person next to me is wearing. Sometimes I :ehh: if ALOT of skin is showing.
