Do you/would you carry a concealed firearm to Mass?

Jesus showing a child how to use a gun isn’t disturbing to you?
I guess it would be.

Nevertheless, the Catholic Church has never been against self defense since we are not pacifists. And one could easily point to Constantine the Great’s victories with the Chi-Rho as their standard given to Constantine in a private revelation. Or the battle of Lepanto where the Pope himself prayed for the Holy League’s victory against the Islamic Ottoman Empire etc.

God Bless You

Thank you for reading.

I really can’t stand it when people just blindly quote stats. It’s just as bad as posting headlines without reading and understanding the content and bias.

A great quote I read once on this went something like “Statistics are used a similar way a drunkard uses a lamp post, for support, rather than illumination.” 🙂

God Bless You.

Statistics can be easily manipulated. When people start touting statistics I think we should all take it with a grain of salt, the Democrats tout out statistics claiming that Gun Control is irrefutably the best thing too.
Yes they can, but they should not be disregarded without being able to define the reason, or at least, look at who is doing the sampling. In the case of gun deaths, there is no issue of bias in sampling though. Above we have the unfortunate situation where statistics are countered with anecdotes. That is really useless.

The US isn’t the wild west. I never really worried about carrying weaponry until the nature of the cases I handle changed, and the community changed.

When you have persons with various types of psychoses “self-medicating” with meth/heroin/coke, you have very, very dangerous people. We’ve had them arm themselves (with melee weapons) and start thinking that everybody is out to kill them. We’ve had them arm themselves and start shooting at stuff that isn’t there. We’ve had people who have picked up various objects and thrown them at people. They don’t respect churches, etc. Imagine somebody who thinks that everybody is a zombie out to get them, who then comes into a church during services.

Also, I’m more concerned about the potential issues going to/from church than stuff inside the church.

Duesenberg - Well here in the UK it is not really a serious issue - so far, thank God. If I lived in the States and was permitted to own a weapon, I don’t think I would take one into Church, for two main reasons - one being it is God’s house and not an armoury - but also that I would not wish to put additional lives at risk by my answering fire with the likelihood of most of the congregation either panicking or blasting off answering shots {probably to dubious effect].

1.) Why wouldn’t you take a gun into “God’s house” for defensive purposes? I cannot see how God would have a problem with any of His people taking prudential steps to guard their safety and that of their loves ones.

2.) Why would you put additional lives at risk? Wouldn’t quite the opposite also be a potential? Couldn’t carrying a gun also help you to potentially save lives?

bad preople with evil intent will always be able to get their hands on guns, regardless of gun-control laws

good people with good intentions have the right to protect themselves, their families & communities w/ legally held fire-arms…

Actually, I have carried my firearm to Mass. Our church was threatened with violence at an online site. Our priest made us aware of it, and told us that the local police department had been made aware of the threat. While at the time I thought it was not entirely credible, I decided to carry for a while. I also always bring my cell phone - turned off - to Mass. I thought Father was really smart to make us aware and let us know that the police department had been notified.

I pray some parish member does carry at Mass! Its a grave sin not to defend ppls lives if u can.

If the world was a lot crazier than it is now,in my homeplace
…I might carry a pocket knife ,I’m Australian 😉 The thought of killing someone just isn’t there

First rule of defense: Don’t bring a knife to a gun fight. Also, from what I understand, it’s very difficult to stab someone.

I probably wouldn’t call the inability to kill someone cowardice. And I am a mother of 4 so I do know about protecting lives to the best of my ability

Probably that there is a different mentality depending on where you were raised .Thats probably where I’ll finish off and say we can agree to disagree if needs be 🙂 🧐

But the cowardice/apathy is there that would keep you from defending lives – your own or other innocent people?
I go out with the Street Pastors, we walk around town until 4 am on a Saturday morning, we have ladies in our teams who are in their seventies. We walk in the middle of fights, we calm people down and afterwards there are handshakes and hugs.

None of us carry any form of protection, none of us do self defence. I call this faith and trust in our lord. None of us have been hurt in almost ten years of confronting a lot of violence.

Is this cowardice because we do not carry a weapon?
