I’m getting a tattoo of a Crucifix soon. I don’t see anything wrong with body art. For goodness sakes, we decorate the church right? People just need to consider whether that art is appropriate or not.

“Body Art”… Yuck…!!!

I don’t want any grafitti on my building, so why would I want it on my body…???

Same goes for kinky body piercings… Why would I want any holes in my body that I wasn’t born with…!?

Actually, I think that the profusion of these things are a sign of the times,* “As in the days of Noah”* ( that’s Biblical… 👍 )

Think about it, What do all of the Paliolithic tribal people ( savages ) have in common…? ( just look into any Anthropology text book…)

TATOOS and Pierced body ornaments… that’s what.

'Nuther words… the savages in Borneo had no contact with the savages in, say South America or in Africa. And yet those savages all had certain things in common. Tatoos and kinky jewlery.

Didn’t Jesus tell his questioning Apostles to use their common sence and keep their eyes open about the end times and that it would be “As in the times of Noah”.

Hint: Paliolithic tribal people = The times of Noah. ]

If you don’t like tattoos, why don’t you just ignore this thread rather than put down people who do have them and really appreciate them?
I have three, a beautiful swirly piece of flash that I got first on one shoulder, a celtic cross on the other, and a little moon and star on my left hip. Not sure what to get on my right hip to balance it out, but I know I want something.

I’m also planning of getting little feathers along my spine representing people I love who have passed away. Like, my grandpa loved hot peppers, so his feather will look like a cross between a pepper and a feather floating down my back. The idea is kind of like what was left behind when angels took him to heaven, or something similar. 🙂

I’ve seen people do very artistic graffiti on buildings. It’s quite fascinating of how this type of artwork reflects urban themes.

How always loved this verse.

1 Samuel 16:7
But the LORD said to Samuel: “Do not judge from his appearance or from his lofty stature, because I have rejected him. Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the LORD looks into the heart.”
And for the record? I’m a Filipino and my ancestors were pretty much considered “savages” just like every other tribe encountered by European colonizers. I suggest you follow the Biblical advice I just cited and avoid making the mistake they did. It was because of that mentality that most of my country’s cultural heritage was lost.

I spend years in the Navy in San Diego and made it to the tattoo parlors on Broadway several time. But resisted the urging of my shipmates and did not have one. So I have none on my body. I just could not see a good reason to get one. Now that I am way over 21 I will never get one.

I have 2. One of Eeyore on my ankle and one I got just last month. It’s my latest bay’s handprint (#7) with the workds around it that say “Never Forgotten” “Matthew Peter February 21, 2009” He was born at 39 weeks perfect but died after an hour due to not known interaction of Fentanyl with my antidepressant.

I have three tattoos. My first and largest is a Celtic cross with a Latin inscription: Ave Crux - Spes Unica Nostra. It means Hail Cross our only Hope.

I have a Gaelic inscription and a tat in memory of my late mother, too.

If one gets a tattoo it is my opinion that it should reflect something permanent about you.
My Faith, my heritage, and my mom will always be the same.

I think tatoos are great when they express something meaningful to the individual who has them. My boyfriend has his badge tattoed on his shoulder and I think it looks great! He is considering getting his SWAT patch tatooed on the other shoulder, but says that’s all the tatoos he wants.

I’ve never had any desire to have one before, but lately I’ve been thinking that if we get married I would like to have a (small) St. Michael celtic cross (similar to the one below) with his “man number” underneath tatooed someplace where no one but him would see it. I think it would be a nice daily reminder to both of us that some one is watching over him. I’d have to get it drawn to see how it would look though - I’ve never seen anything like what I’m envisioning in my mind…

If you google celtic cross pictures you will see many variations.

My body is a work of art, created by the best artist - God. I’m not too happy with some of the things time has done to it, though! I have had spider veins on my legs since I was in my teens, which expanded into more over years of doing work on my feet. It’s really not as bad as some people have it. I just wish I had the money to restore the work of art God has given me (through sclerotherapy and lazer treatments). I often wonder why someone would think spending money to ruin their looks that God has so lovingly given them is art. I’m not being judgemental, it’s just one of life’s little puzzlements to me. I don’t care one way or the other if someone does it. But I think it does spoil their looks.

It’s not ruining it. Okay. If you’re covered in it it yes, but even the Vatican and other old church have paintings, and artwork that can’t be removed.

Super quick. I have one. And plan more. I don’t want to post mine because it is VERY distinctive.

It’s a “computer port” I got to celebrate turning 40. I have my last name in ascii representative hexadecimal numbers above the port (arched around it as the computer port is a circle.) And my birthday underneath it. Inspired by the movie “The Matrix” but it’s meaning is representative of a spiritual awakening. Like Neo, I was pulled into the Real World when I woke up and started to follow God. Abstract, I know. It is drawn to look like a piece of metal that has been attached to my skin (so the skin around the port is “bunched” up with the metal “clasping” it.) I have it in the middle at the top of my back just below my neck.

I LOVE IT.

I plan on having the Holy Trinity put right underneath it. Cause, you know, He’s got my back. 😃

How cool is that?? I have a cross on the back of my neck for the exact same reason - cuz He’s got my back!!! Always thought tats were not my cup of tea, but I am happy as can be with this, my only, one. Even ran it by my pastor before I got it to make sure I wasn’t doing anything out of line. He said to go for it and hurry back and show him. 👍 I would’ve gotten the cross on my entire back if I wasn’t such a chicken about it, but it’s the only one I’ve gotten and I figured I’d keep it simple. It’s pretty big though, probably about the size of my hand. Recently I saw a guy with a cross on his entire back and it looked beatiful. I took a picture of it - that’s how nice it is. Just don’t get anything evil looking. THAT I don’t understand.

Curlygirl,

Talking about evil… if I were to have gotten my last name in lower case in hex numbers, there’d be five 6’s on my back. ack! While hexadecimal numbers are a combination of letters and numbers, and the 6’s would not be together, per se, I didn’t necessarily want to have any combination of three 6’s on my back. That would be Not. Good.

So, I found what the hexadecimal numbers for my name in all upper case and those numbers start with 4’s. LOL. Which is fine, I love even numbers. hehe

I actually have my whole back planned out, but ended up starting small to see how I would do with getting a tattoo. I did GREAT. It wasn’t too bad either. Now, I want the rest of my back done. I plan on getting a full body panther down the right side of my back, and a full body wolf on the left side. The Holy trinity would be in the middle of the two. These two animals also have significance for me, personally.

But I’m going to save up money for the Holy Trinity first.

Carol, there are people who defile their bodies in far worse ways than tattoos. But I can relate to where you’re coming from. I never thought I’d get a tattoo, ever, until it hit me last year what I’d get. I have seen some bodies with tattoos that are, well… a defilement of the body.

Tattoos, generally speaking, and the very GOOD tattoos, aren’t done arbitrarily. Generally speaking, those with serious tattoo body art has a story for each tattoo. So keep in mind that a tattoo tells a story.

While I’m not all into the body art world, I’ve seen many that I can start to discern whether someone is honouring their body (the body God gave them) by adorning it with art, and then there are those who just defile it - with trash.

BTW, I hope you don’t wear make up. 😉

I have a compass on my hip. I got it when I was leaving my first “real” job and heading down a new career path. Its a personal reminder to always keep direction and balance in my life.

No body art for me, despite the rather, ah, ample available canvas, if you know what I mean.
