Does anyone here believe the earth is 5000 years old?

Ok actually a year is how long a planet takes to go around its sun… Those other things are just takes of off the true definition… Plus honestly if you ask someone there age does anyone truly use any other meaning? Or how long ago you graduated? Or how many years you have been married? Was anyone truly confused by the original question? Or is someone just trying to be smat?

astronomers use precise definitions of years, they are all “true” definitions. no one is trying to be “smat”.
 
Ok stupid place to argue so I am done after this but… Given the fact I am sure everyone knew exactly what they meant by years in ordinal post… Asking what kind of years was just being a smart aleck… If someone asks how old you are would you really ask them well what kind of years do you mean?

The purpose of the Divine Author of vthe Bible, the Holy Spirit, is to tell us about God and His acts of “Salvation History”.

I would like to add that while Catholics are free to believe the 7 day creation - 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, folks who believe this tend to be literalists. I think that focusing so much on the historical aspect of creation can make us lose sight of the other theological messages that are really quite powerful and at the same time revolutionary.

Most cultures explained God, the heavens, creation, etc. with the use of myths. Most of the time the God’s were not very nice. They did not view man as anything special and often as a painful annoyance. In Genesis, we see a God who loves us, provides us with vegetation, birds of the sky, beasts and fishes of the sea. He takes a rib from Adam so as to give him a suitable mate. He commands us to be fruitful and multiply.

This is unparalleled in any other documentation of creation in any other culture. You are right when you say that the bible is not scientific history, rather it is what we receive from God for our salvation.

Luke 3:23–38 thought to be Mary’s family (Miryam) (and Matthew 1:1–17, Joseph’s which only goes back to Abraham)

75 generations in Luke. 75 times (for example) 54 years average life = around 4000 years.

Are you saying Matthew has it wrong?

what does 4k years of genealogy have to do with the age of the earth?
 
In truth? No. I support theistic evolution.

Sarcastically? Of course not. Everyone knows Creation took 6000 years :rolleyes:. 6 days for Creation × 1000 years to us/1 day to God (Psalm 90:4) = 6000 years of Creation.

  1. (original) How old is the earth?
  2. (new) How long has man been around?
I’d just like to point out the two don’t necessarily go hand in hand.

I firmly believe the earth is around 6000 years old. This can be seen scientifically because the estimates that the earth is in the millions of years old are absurd because “carbon dating” cannot accurately age substances and so called ‘scientists’ use this dating which can only date a few thousand years in the past.

We have genetic evidence telling us that the human race is about 80000 years old. Did the Earth only exist for a small portion of humanity’s existence?
