Does anyone here, that believes in God, actually think that God accepts gay marriage?

But two fathers can never give a child the mother that a child deserves, and vice-versa. Such a family will always be inherently flawed in its ability to raise children correctly.
They just can’t seem to comprehend that biology cannot be changed.

No legal document made by trial lawyers and a few activists judges can’t fight 200 million years of mammalian evolution or the natural laws of the universe.

They can call it whatever they want and change definitions and pull all kinds of language and communication tricks.

But all they are doing is burying the truth.

And we know how well that goes.

It is a matter of Jewish Law. An unborn child is not accorded the same status as a person compared to a born child although abortion is never taken lightly. The soul is believed to enter the body at birth, according to the verse in Genesis which describes the infusion of the breath of life in Adam after his body was formed from the earth.
Does Jewish law simply ignore verses after Genesis, such as “before you were in your mother’s womb, I knew you”?

Further, what person in life doesn’t go through difficult, sometimes horrible circumstances? Should we abort all babies because there’s a chance sometime down the road that they’ll become a quadriplegic in a horrible accident?

I respectfully submit that this example of Jewish law seems fundamentally flawed, both theologically and logically.

This is not the thread to be discussing in detail the meaning of Jeremiah and Psalms concerning abortion. I can assure you that Jewish Law is both theologically and logically sound in this regard.

This post is in regard to “chizzy”. and parents in general who say things like , “I just want my child to be happy.”
Why are parents so focused on their children’s happiness? You must know from your own life experiences that happiness is fleeting. It is not something that we can achieve for our selves. It is not a gift that we can procure for anyone else either.

The same for parents who are worried that their children might become lonely.

I have grown a son. He lives a celibate life. He is rarely lonely (I won’t say never). He is generally happy (I won’t say always) but my hope for him is not his happiness, it is the hope he build close a relationship with God based on truly knowing Him, serving Him and loving Him. He may never marry or become a priest but he is ok.

We can’t let society (the world) tell us that just because we have a drive to feel happy and an inclination that a certain lifestyle or practice- be it to marry, divorce or to practice a homosexual lifestyle for example will make you feel that way that it should be our goal or our right.

We can’t trust our feeling and inclinations so we need better guidance. That’s what the Church does. It help us to sort out our inclinations so that we only act upon the ones that will lead us to true happiness which it not always the* feeling *of happiness.

I fail to see how giving advantages to couples can be defended to unmarried people, if not for the goal of having children raised by their biological parents. Once children become like puppies that are raised as they are wanted by whom they are wanted, why would the single have any stake in making civil sacrifices to support “marriage”?

I’d have an easier time defending the Christian view of marriage than the progressive “all-inclusive view”.
You can look at the horrible way the straight community lives out marriage and say that with a straight face (no pun intended there)? REALLY??? I know gay people who are 1000 times more committed to their partners than some hetero people. You can argue the Church’s archaic opinions, you can argue what you think Jesus would do and how much he hates their lifestyle (🤷) but you can’t compare them as they exist in the straight community or even in the Catholic Church. Argue away, but you just lost your debate on that point.

I’d like to quote Pope Francis:

“In ideologies there is not Jesus: in his tenderness, his love, his meekness. And ideologies are rigid, always. Of every sign: rigid. And when a Christian becomes a disciple of the ideology, he has lost the faith: he is no longer a disciple of Jesus, he is a disciple of this attitude of thought… For this reason Jesus said to them: ‘You have taken away the key of knowledge.’ The knowledge of Jesus is transformed into an ideological and also moralistic knowledge, because these close the door with many requirements. The faith becomes ideology and ideology frightens, ideology chases away the people, distances, distances the people and distances of the Church of the people. But it is a serious illness, this of ideological Christians. It is an illness, but it is not new, eh?”

This is not the thread to be discussing in detail the meaning of Jeremiah and Psalms concerning abortion.
Fair enough. However, I will say…
I can assure you that Jewish Law is both theologically and logically sound in this regard.
…that the presence of the commandment “Thou shalt not murder” doesn’t leave this aspect of Jewish looking very good in any light.

You guys are supporting the ban of the recognition of gay marriages by law, and the ban of the recognition of a gay person’s right to marry someone of the same gender.
How do you ban something that doesn’t exist? Could I ban the right for protestants to be called Catholics? Could I ban the right for women to be literally recognised as men for equality sake?

May I ask you what is marriage? and how do we recognise it equally?
In addition, not all Protestants are alike. Yes, the Focus on the Family and Christian Coalition types support SSM bans, but there are many younger Protestants who see things differently. Either way, Protestants are told to vote according to their own consciences.
The Catholic Church doesn’t tell people how to vote either, we are also told to vote according to our own consciences.

The thing is that we should vote on an informed conscience, because if someone from your Church was supporting abortion with great zeal and said they were doing it according to their conscience, what would you think? I would say that their conscience needs some serious informing, wouldn’t you agree?

I don’t wish to tell you how to vote, I simply wish to inform your conscience on this issue.
As far as the Bible verses you cited, yes, a Christian is not to engage in gay sex in his own personal life. It is an abomination. But the Bible still says nothing about how to vote in a secular democracy, for it predates democracy.
When that man asked Jesus “who is my neighbour?” Jesus didn’t respond by telling him who his neighbour was, but by saying who was he being neighbourly to, thus everyone is our neighbours, which includes our homosexual brothers and sisters.
Gospel of Mark:
**Mark 12:29-31

29 Jesus answered, “The most important one says: ‘People of Israel, you have only one Lord and God. 30 You must love him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.’ 31 The second most important commandment says: ‘Love others as much as you love yourself.’ No other commandment is more important than these.” **
If you would advise against that lifestyle for your own children, than how are you loving your homosexual brothers and sisters by advocating it for them?

I believe God is not only God for those who believe in him, this is a truth reflected in religion and nature itself, one quick study of the genetalia (biology 101) will tell you that it’s wrong. I don’t believe it’s rocket science.

And for those who say it is natural because it’s practiced among animals, than I would also like to say that some animals also eat their own young, but I would be very surprised if people wanted to jump on the band wagon and say that was natural too.

Note: sorry I didn’t get to all of your post, I’m late for work, I will answer the rest of it asap.

Fair enough. However, I will say…

…that the presence of the commandment “Thou shalt not murder” doesn’t leave this aspect of Jewish looking very good in any light.
I know I’ll regret this, but here goes. Would you agree that self-defense is not regarded as murder? In certain cases of abortion that are permitted in Judaism, it is considered self-defense on the part of the mother. For example, to protect the life of the mother, to which the unborn child is a threat, abortion is a means of self-defense. True, the unborn child is innocent of the harm it inflicts; but nonetheless, albeit unwittingly, the baby threatens the mother. This is the one instance in which abortion is absolutely required according to Jewish Law. In other instances, such as if one unborn child who is healthy will surely die due to another unborn child who is unhealthy and who is depleting the resources of the healthy child, then abortion due to self-defense of the healthy unborn child is invoked. In cases of rape and incest, it is the psychological health of the mother that is threatened by the baby. However, this is more difficult to justify so there is more debate within Judaism. In the case of an unborn child who has an extremely serious congenital disease and is unlikely to survive after birth, this may also constitute excessive psychological distress on the part of the mother and so she is threatened by carrying the baby to term.

All of these are heart-wrenching decisions that must be made by the mother in consultation with her family, her rabbi (if she has one), and her doctors. It is not abortion on demand, however, and must never be taken lightly.

I know I’ll regret this, but here goes. Would you agree that self-defense is not regarded as murder?
Tentatively yes, though context always applies.
In certain cases of abortion that are permitted in Judaism, it is considered self-defense on the part of the mother. For example, to protect the life of the mother, to which the unborn child is a threat, abortion is a means of self-defense.
No, sorry. God designed the body of the mother to carry a child; the life of the child is no more a threat to the mother than my breathing oxygen is to the neighbors next door.
True, the unborn child is innocent of the harm it inflicts; but nonetheless, albeit unwittingly, the baby threatens the mother.
False. The baby, by its very nature, cannot and will never “threaten” a mother. Circumstances sometimes conspire to put one or both lives in jeopardy, but that is not at all the baby’s fault, either intentionally or naturally. You cannot claim “self defense” against a baby because it is simply living in the womb. That’s absolutely, unequivocally absurd.
This is the one instance in which abortion is absolutely required according to Jewish Law.
One doesn’t save a drowning individual by pushing another drowning individual deeper underwater.
In other instances, such as if one unborn child who is healthy will surely die due to another unborn child who is unhealthy and who is depleting the resources of the healthy child, then abortion due to self-defense of the healthy unborn child is invoked
Then Jewish law in this regard is attempting to play God, with all due respect. And again, the unhealthy child is not attempting to actively do the other child harm; you cannot claim “self-defense” in a situation wherein all the sick child is doing is existing.
. In cases of rape and incest, it is the psychological health of the mother that is threatened by the baby. However, this is more difficult to justify so there is more debate within Judaism.
That is good, because murdering a baby in the womb does not “un-rape” the mother in question, and adds only evil to an already evil situation, instead of letting God bring great joy out it.
In the case of an unborn child who has an extremely serious congenital disease and is unlikely to survive after birth, this may also constitute excessive psychological distress on the part of the mother and so she is threatened by carrying the baby to term.
Then we’d better murder all babies ever, just in case one of them gets sick after they’re born and puts the mother through undue distress. Do you see where this kind of faulty logic ultimately leads?
All of these are heart-wrenching decisions that must be made by the mother in consultation with her family, her rabbi (if she has one), and her doctors. It is not abortion on demand, however, and must never be taken lightly.
All lives must be taken into consideration and love, not just the mothers. We do not murder human beings in order to ease our own pain.

That should be immediately and utterly obvious to anyone who professes to follow God with their heart and soul.

**So the idea that Tradition says we should support gay marriage bans is a logical fallacy, for the Bible and Church predate democracy and voting.
**
Tradition? what about the human anatomy of a man and a woman? the reproductive system? biology 101? it’s not simply a religious issue, not even the scientific community could advocate total equality between the two without losing all prefessional credibility.
Personally, I fail to see how denying gays the right to marry constitutes showing love to them. All it does is impose our beliefs on them, oppress and reject them, and make it less likely for gays to turn to the Church.
What exactly do you think we are denying homosexual couples by defining marriage as only between a man and a woman? I understand that if they wish to live that lifestyle, than that’s fine, I may think it’s wrong, but I’m not going to force my beliefs on them and say they cannot do it.

Homosexuality is a consensual act and thus why it isn’t criminalized, nor is anyone arguing for it to be made illegal, same sex marriage doesn’t legalise a homosexual union. If I were arguing to criminalize sodomy or something, than I would completely understand your point, but same sex marriage isn’t about that.

I believe Rau said it well -
It is not about “legal rights”, for in many jurisdictions, same sex couples receive the same rights as a heterosexual couple, with very few exceptions. It is about acceptance and affirmation.
If you ask many gays, they will admire Jesus, yet they believe that the Church and its people are a horrible representation of what Jesus truly is. And therefore they refuse to go to church.
A horrible representation because we believe that marriage is only between a man and a woman? because we believe that the sexual acts of homosexuality are immoral? do they believe Jesus would have said different?
"Gospels:
**Matthew 19:4-6

4 Jesus answered, “Don’t you know that in the beginning the Creator made a man and a woman? 5 That’s why a man leaves his father and mother and gets married. He becomes like one person with his wife. 6 Then they are no longer two people, but one. And no one should separate a couple that God has joined together.”

Mark 10:6-9

6 But in the beginning God made a man and a woman. 7 That’s why a man leaves his father and mother and gets married. 8 He becomes like one person with his wife. Then they are no longer two people, but one. 9 And no one should separate a couple that God has joined together.”**
No wonder why the gay community thrives, for Christians have rejected them.
Why would you make such a statement?
The only real way to change the lifestyle of a gay person is to preach the Gospel, and hope that he or she changes voluntarily.
So how does calling such a lifestyle righteous and just invite such a change?
But to oppress them by supporting legal bans–history will see this as yet another mistake of the Church.
Another use of this term “legal bans” what are we banning?

Oppress: keep (someone) in subjection and hardship, especially by the unjust exercise of authority.

What exactly are we doing to keep them in subjection and hardship?
Soon gay marriage rights will exist in all 50 states and all of the developed world.
Who has a right to marriage and why? don’t you have to first determine what a mariage is before you can recognise a couple or groups “right” to it? Do women have the “right” to be recognised as men?
People increasingly understand that homosexuality is a normal trait that exists in about 5% of the population.
Would you say the same thing about pedophilia?

There are people who have all kinds of immoral desires, but just because we desire something does that make it right to act on? should we all just wrecklessly give into our every desire throw our hands up in the air and say “If God didn’t want me to do this than he wouldn’t have given me the desire to do it?”

Not one person doesn’t suffer from some kind of immoral desire and it’s control over our desires that separates us from animals.
People tomorrow will laugh at people today and question why the heck did we support such cruel bans.
I think people will laugh at those states and countries who legalised this nonsense, like I said, not even the scientific community could make such a claim without losing all professional credibility.

You can look at the horrible way the straight community lives out marriage and say that with a straight face (no pun intended there)? REALLY??? I know gay people who are 1000 times more committed to their partners than some hetero people. Pope Francis is an absolute foe of gay marriage, so it is hard to drag him in to defend it.

The way marriage and child-bearing are currently being handled in secular law and general practice without regard to gays at all, it would be difficult to defend to single people who object to it as unfair and lacking in societal benefit. I can easily see civil marriage slipping to a mutual exchange of benefits and legal responsibility that a) are stripped of tax advantage and b) stripped of connection to sexual relationship. That gays contend that their relationships are the same as heterosexual ones only makes this more glaringly obvious.

Surrogacy is yet another way to produce a child OUTSIDE of wedlock. How ironic is it to establish a form of “wedlock” that is set up to encourage people to have children outside of wedlock? It is nuts. It is like no-fault divorce which sets up a bond that may fail arbitrarily…another modern form of marriage that is just nuts.

sigh I really don’t understand you “the Church’s Archaic opinions” ???

May I just ask, what is your goal when it comes to this issue of same sex marriage? what do you wish to achieve, especially here and debating with us on CAF about this issue?

If you were to assess my posts on this issue, could you please tell me where I have gone wrong or what I should be saying please?

Historically, polygamy was the norm! Why are Christians attempting to usurp the **definition of marriage **to only include monogamous heterosexual couples?

What is the relevance of marriage in today’s world?..For legal rights? Now we are getting somewhere. But why does this have to be limited to monogamous heterosexual couples? Why do we deny these rights to gay couples, threesomes, polyamorous and polygamous arrangements?

We also need to ask, why is the Christian church so hell-bent on denying gays the right to SSM?..Does it help preach the Gospel? No. Gays do not see Jesus in the Church, when the Church actively works to deny them secular civil rights.

Christians need to clean up their act before having the audacity to **impose **their beliefs on others in the political arena.

Protestants understand that the primary mission of the Church should be to cultivate one’s individual relationship with Christ. Protestants understand that politics is just a worldly distraction and that politics doesn’t save us.
You’ve not answered my question - what is the “definition of marriage”?

And what “legal rights” are you advocating that gay couples, polygamous groups, etc. ought to have access to, but don’t?

What “secular civil rights” are you referring to (by stating that the Church seeks to deny these to gays)?

How do Christians seek to “impose” their views on anyone? Do we have any civil authority beyond a right to free speech?

Thank you! I think the Pope hit the nail right on the head.

…and as far as others saying it’s wrong for us to want our children to be happy…that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard in my life! Any random person who happens to read this thread and sees that sentiment repeated would think that Catholics are seriously warped. Yes, I know true happiness comes from within. But how can it be wrong to want our children to be happy? To be loved, have a roof over his head, food in his belly, a decent education, parents who love and support and encourage him, make him feel safe, and YES, want to see him smiling and HAPPY? YES, I WANT MY SONS TO BE HAPPY! And if one of my sons finds love and HAPPINESS with a man…as much as I may not like it…if it brings him joy in his heart, then I have to support and accept it.

Not all Catholics feel the same way about this and many other things that are frowned upon on this forum. My mother, who is a devout Catholic who’s father was going to become a priest until he met her mother, who has had priests and nuns in her family, who goes to Mass every week…she is understanding and less judgmental that a lot of the folks here. She even thinks it’s great that we switch off every other week between going to my husband’s Methodist church and our Catholic church.

The Bible has been translated so many times. I know that a lot has been lost in translation and has probably been skewed to fit the moralistic beliefs of men of the time of those translations. The greatest rule is “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind.” and** " Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thy self".**

I think we ALL need to remember that. THAT is the bottom line, folks. Stop with the hating, the condeming, the preaching and just start trying to uphold that commandment. It doesn’t say to exclude gays or anyone else. THAT IS THE WORD OF OUR LORD.

God does not love sinful acts. Therefore, we cannot condone them.

But to oppress them by supporting legal bans–history will see this as yet another mistake of the Church.

… why the heck did we support such cruel bans.
Legal bans? This is pure propaganda, using such language. It implies that the Church suddenly got it into its head to upend thousands of years of marriage between any two people, and ‘ban’ marriage between people of the same sex.

No. Marriage has never, not once in any civilization, in any era of history, under any system of faith of belief at all, involved people of the same sex. It has always been between people of the opposite sex. Has something to do with the ability to procreate.

“But we want it” is really not a good reason for upheaving the entire history of mankind.

We are not to say what God condones. God makes the final judgments on us. Homosexuality is not causing anyone harm. It gives busy bodies something to talk about. There are a million more important and vital issues that ALL churches and ALL people should concern themselves with: Starving people, sick people, places devastated by natural disasters and man-made disasters, homelessness, poverty…ya know, who cares who someone is sleeping with. There are much bigger things in life. Concern yourselves with helping those in need and being kind to others. Do good. God sees all. I don’t think my God would punish any homosexuals just because they were homosexuals. I’m pretty sure that’s a pretty trivial thing when you consider all the troubles this planet has right now. He looks for the good in people.

God doesn’t punish homosexuals. There are many chaste people with same sex orientation who have chosen to follow Christ above all else
