Christoph Cardinal Schönborn, Archbishop of Vienna and head of the Austrian Church, gave an interview to Austrian editors last week in which he stated, “We should give more consideration to the quality of homosexual relationships,” adding: “A stable relationship is certainly better than if someone chooses to be promiscuous.”

This is apparently not the first time the Cardinal has given at least tacit approval to homosexual unions. In 2006, the rector of his Cathedral parish in Vienna conducted a St. Valentine Day blessing of couples which he openly invited gay couples to attend and receive blessings. The rector said he had the Cardinal’s permission.

In last week’s interview, Cardinal Schönborn also attacked the Dean of the College of Cardinals, saying that Cardinal Angelo Sodano “deeply wronged” the victims of sexual abuse by Catholic clergy when he dismissed media reports of the scandal as “petty gossip”. Cardinal Schönborn also said the Roman Curia was “urgently in need of reform”.
Wow, there’s a lot of issues here. Your thoughts?
