Islam has oral teaching that it reveres as highly as the Koran? Can you please provide a reference?
Why yes, the Hadith. Now, let me predict you’ll not change your position, regardless of what you read. Correct?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadith

’ Later generations sought out oral traditions regarding the early history of Islam, and the practice of Muhammad and his first followers, and wrote them down so that they might be preserved. These recorded oral traditions are called hadith. Muslim scholars sifted through the hadith and evaluated the chain of narration of each tradition, scrutinizing the trustworthiness of the narrators and judging the strength of each hadith accordingly.’

A hadith is a saying of Muhammad or a report about something he did.

‘Classical hadith specialist Ibn Hajar says that the intended meaning of hadith in religious tradition is something attributed to Muhammad, as opposed to the Qur’an’

Actually Hadith is so important that without it one cannot fully understand the Holy Book and Islam or be able to apply it to one’s life and practice.

Hadith literally means a narrative and as the second primary source for Islam, it means prophetic narrative. That is, a report of what the Prophet (pbuh) said or did. His sayings and deeds were later narrated by his companions to their disciples and so on until these narratives were assembled and recorded in the second, third, and fourth centuries of Islam by a number of hadith scholars.

Unlike Qur’an, Hadith is not the Word of God. It is nevertheless an expression of Divine revelation, for when Mohammed (pbuh) spoke as the Prophet of God, “he did not speak from his own mind”.

But what do they teach about Jesus? That’s the Only issue from which rightness or wrongness comes.
Islam teaches that Jesus was a great prophet.

Christianity teaches that Jesus was the son of God.

Buddhism predates Jesus, so it doesn’t mention him.

Rightness and wrongness has been known for thousands, upon thousands of years, well before Jesus walked the earth.

Perhaps you should read the Old Testament that should shed some light on your pre-Jesus thoughts.

Religion is the search for truth and many religions preach the truth and I feel there is some truth to all religions because man being a creation of God there is bound to be truth somewhere in the thinking of the being made in God’s image. Where we fall short is the idea that all religions have the full truth, which I believe none do because again we only human and imperfect beings cannot make anything perfect.

On true religion and true belief, I think my thoughts are best portrayed in this quote from G.K. Chesterton:
“Fallacies do not cease to be fallacies because they become fashions.”

This is a finger in the eye of people today because they legitimize abortion and contraception all under the guise “sexual freedom” and because freedom is affixed to the term it instantly is within “church teaching”. The Catholic Church is opposed to these ideas so I certainly feel I am in the right place.

Well, the bolded portion proves our point, Zat. The only religion which defines the Word of God as existing beyond the written word is Catholicism. 🤷

I think you are confusing the point of Christianity. It’s not about rightness and wrongness; you are correct in saying that there are lots of moral people who are not Christian.

Christianity teaches Jesus is God the Son. Both Islam and Christianity can’t be correct.

Seeing Buddhism still exists, they must have some thoughts about Jesus. If it’s not that He is God, come in the flesh, died for the sins of all humanity and was raised from the dead, then Buddhism and Christianity are different on the issue of Jesus and both can’t be correct.

If Jesus is as Christians say, then the others are false.

Dokimas, I agree with you, but would just like to add something. This is where religion can become dangerous. There is some truth in all religions, otherwise people would not be attracted to them.

Islam, for instance, speaks the truth when it claims that there is only one God. But they cannot know this God without knowing Jesus Christ. Jesus, in their view, is just another prophet, not the Son of God. God as Father is foreign to them. He is, instead, a Master who rules from far away.

Buddhism, as far as I know, doesn’t really address the question of God. They do, however, walk a path of virtue and therefore have some truth.

“The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among the shadows and images, for the God who is unkown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life.” (CCC par 843)

We can go a little further, considering all Christian denominations. Neither can they all be right, yet they can share much common ground. Are the differences major enough to affect one’s salvation?
From a Catholic perspective I can see a scenario wherein one who believes “once save, always saved” may fall into mortal sin and die without confessing it. If non-Catjholics who deny the real presence in the Eucharaist are correct, then Catholics are guilty of idolatry. Arguments aside, truth is truth, and if one is missing an essential truth, whether they are Christian or non-Christian, the result may truly be tragic. How blessed we are to have a merciful God.

The importance of searching for the Truth cannot be overstated. I suppose that is what all of us on CAF are doing. Its great when we can help each other find that truth.

Thank God for His grace and MERCY.

We need each other; God uses each other to help us. Thank God for the Body of Christ.

if a man teaches you about ideas then use your bible to test the truth… EVEN THE BIBLE COMMANDS YOU TO DO THIS!
1Th 5:21 prove all things; hold fast that which is good;
JL: Not to be argumentative, but actually [1Th5:21 prove all things; hold fast that which is good;] doesn’t COMMAND or tell us, HOW we are to prove all things. Scripture is certainly one of the important ways, as NOTHING CONTRADICTING scripture could be accepted and held as good. Yet namy denominations hold traditions of men made doctrines of God, in the 1520’s, Such as sola scriptura, faith ALONE, once saved always saved, baptism a symbol only, invisible church, etc… All of which CONTRADICT scripture.

Scripture can and IS often misinterpreted (even sincerly) as we see by the many sola scriptura denominations. All claiming to be led by the same Holy Spirit in their particular interpretation of the same scripture. If scripture ALONE could be used to prove or disprove ideas taught by man, there wound NOT be thousands of contentious denominations. There would only be ONE visible Church, which Christ intended and promised the gates of hell would NEVER prevail against. We know Christ has keep his promise, 1Tm3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in THE HOUSE OF GOD, which is THE CHURCH of the living God, THE PILLAR AND GROUND OF THE TRUTH.]

Scripture does indicate HOW to test all things. [Acts2:41 Then **THEY THAT gladly RECEIVED HIS WORD were BAPTIZED: and the same day there WERE ADDED UNTO THEM about three thousand souls. 42 And THEY CONTINUED steadfastly IN the APOSTLES’ DOCTRINE and FELLOWSHIP, and in BREAKING OF BREAD, and in PRAYERS.

Those that received his word were baptized. Born again by water AND the Spirit as children of God, becoming members of Christ’s body the Church. They CONTINUED steadfastly in the One Holy Catholic Apostolic Fellowship and their DOCTRINE.

[1Cor 1:9 God is faithful **you were called into THE FELLOWSHIP OF his Son JESUS CHRIST 10 I appeal to you BREATHREN by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that all of you AGREE that there be no dissensions among you that you BE UNITED in the same mind and THE SAME JUDGMENT. 1Jn 4:6 We are of God Whoever knows God LISTENS TO US and he who is not of God DOES NOT LISTEN TO US BY THIS WE KNOW the spirit of TRUTH and the spirit of ERROR]

They continued steadfastly in the Apostles FELLOWSHIP of Jesus Christ. ABIDING in the Apostles DOCTRINE, whether by word OR epistle. That Tradition received from the beginning. By ABIDING in that gospel truth, HEARD FROM THE BEGINNING, and LISTENING to those who have the gift of the Holy Spirit, to lead the Church into all TRUTH, [Jn16:13 Howbeit when he, THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, IS COME, he WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL TRUTH: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.].

We know with assurance TRUTH from ERROR listening to those Christ SENT to teach the WHOLE world till the end, remember the Church was up preaching and teaching twenty or more years before the FIRST letter of the NT was ever written. [Mt28:16 Then THE ELEVEN disciples WENT away into Galilee, INTO A MOUNTAIN where JESUS had APPOINTED them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18 And JESUS came and SPAKE UNTO THEM, saying, ALL POWER IS GIVEN UNTO ME IN HEAVEN AND IN EARTH. 19 GO ye therefore, and **TEACH ALL NATIONS, BAPTIZING them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS whatsoever I HAVE COMMANDED YOU: and, lo, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, even UNTO THE END OF THE WORLD. Amen.] Everything is TESTED, by the Word of God, WHETHER by WORD or EPISTLE, in light of the Apostlic Tradition as lived out and practiced by the Church. Scripture especially the NT books were discerned by Apostolic Tradition.

[2Thes2:14 Whereunto he called you by **OUR GOSPEL, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore, BREATHREN, STAND FAST, and HOLD THE TRADITIONS which ye have been TAUGHT, WHETHER BY WORD OR our EPISTLE. Some have a tradition of men, saying ALL oral Tradition is now is scripture, yet they cannot give a scripture saying that is the case. They cannot show us scripture telling us, we are no longer to hold Traditions whether by Word or Epistle. If there was no oral Apostolic or Divine Tradition, why would scripture say to hold traditions WHETHER by WORD or EPISTLE??

[2Tim1:6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou STIR UP **THE GIFT OF GOD, which is **IN THEE BY **the PUTTING ON OF MY HANDS. 7 For GOD HATH NOT GIVEN **US **THE SPIRIT OF FEAR; **BUT OF POWER, ** and of love, and of a sound mind.]

2Tim1:13 HOLD FAST the form of SOUND WORDS, which thou hast HEARD OF ME, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 14 THAT GOOD THING which was COMMITTED unto thee **KEEP BY THE HOLY GHOST **which dwelleth IN US.

2Tim2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And THE THINGS that THOU HAST HEARD OF ME among many witnesses, THE SAME COMMIT thou TO FAITHFUL MEN, who shall be ABLE TO TEACH OTHERS also.

Paul even checked his teaching with that one fellowship, to be sure he was not teaching another doctrine or gospel. [Gal2:1 Then fourteen years after **I WENT UP AGAIN TO JERUSALEM with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also. 2 And I went up BY REVELATION, and COMMUNICATED UNTO THEM that GOSPEL which I PREACH among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, LEST BY ANY MEANS I SHOULD run, or HAD RUN, IN VAIN.]

For me believing in Christ is most important. Loving Him. And out of love do every thing He commanded us to do. Doing everything possible to be a good disciple of Christ!

It is not important for me if I am in the “right religion.”
In religion there is no right or wrong.
[SIGN]You can find part of the truth in every religion[/SIGN].
The reason why I am a Christian however is that He is real present. That He loves me and that I had the grace to experience Him.
So Jesus is the Truth for me and His teachings- not a particular Church.

Esdra
Esdra we finally agree on something:D But to me I do not want part of the truth. I MUST have the FULLNESS of the Truth, And that is promsed to me by God in the Catholic Church. So to me the right Religion is the Most Important thing.

does it matter to be a part of the “right” religion?
If you are not following the Church founded by Jesus Christ, then you may be taught error. If you are following error, then you are not following the Truth and will go in the wrong direction.

[SIGN][/SIGN]
So it [SIGN]does matter if you’re a follower of the right religion?[/SIGN]
You’ve confused me.

On one hand, you agree that Islam is truth and leads directly to God.

On the other, you seem to assert that Islam will lead to my doom?

So which is it?

Will islam save me or damn me from Gods righteous justice?
Yep! Because all Religion’s usually contain SOME truth. That is how People become part of them. There is a truth that keeps them faithfull.

But in order to have the FULLNESS of the TRUTH you must have the Catholic Church.

According to Gods word there are teachings of Islam that have turned from the Truth or distorted the truth.

For me turning to Islam will absolutely turn to doom for me. Because I have the fullness of the truth and cannot deny it even if I wanted to.

So if a Islam took a gun to my head and forced me to say that I believe in their Religion and not mine would I bend and say it? Who knows probally? I would hope I could be a strong enough person but who knows. But God knows my heart and mind.

So while the gun was at my head or my Childs or loved ones I would possibly say yes. But in my mind and my heart and my soul it would be a silent screw you. I believe in Jesus Christ and will never deny him. And thats what God would hear, not the situation and lie that came out of my mouth.

And thats what it is all about the truth that is within what you really are, really think. And thats the person that God see’s and will judge. He knows a true Conscience.

So people can take his word and distort it, twist it with this way of thinking. And God told us they would. Let me show you the scripture. It has actually happened before and always has.

Here is the truth about conscience.

Some by rejecting conscience have made a shipwreck of their faith among them Hymenaeus and Alexander whom I have handed over to satan to be taught not to blaspheme.

So this is nothing new:shrug:

True, but only because this is what God has revealed to YOU. If Islam is all you were taught and you do not know Christianity and you are living Gods word to the best of your knowledge do you really think God would hold this against you. And do you not believe that alot of the Islam faith is indeed the truth.

Much of Islam is taking the true word of God and taking it out of context and to extreeeeeems. But do you really think God would hold you to sin that you did not know you committed?

Many denominations teach that what is not found in the bible! So then you must ask your self. Should you believe in the word of a man and his traditions or do you believe the word of GOD=bible
JL: I believe the Word of God, TRADITIONED by the Apostles, whether by WORD or EPISTLE, as taught by the pillar AND ground of TRUTH, the Church. Not one of the Churches teachings CONTRADICT scripture as many Protestant man made teachings do, such as baptism is a symbol or sola scriptura. I am not aware of any teaching of the Chruch, which is not at lest implied in the scriptures. The Trinity would be one of those implied teachings.

The Church was preaching and teaching the GOSPEL, converting thousands, before the FIRST epistle of the NT was written. It took about four hundred years before the canon of the bible was discerned using TRADITION. Before that some congregations considered as inspiried books that were NOT included in the canon. Some rejected books, such as Jude, 2&3 John, James, 2 Peter, Revealation as inspiried. Also false letters where circulating as written by an apostle, [2Thes2:2 That ye BE NOT soon SHAKEN in mind, OR be TROUBLED, neither by spirit, nor BY WORD, nor BY LETTER AS FROM US, as that the day of Christ is at hand.] A letter as if it had come from Paul or an apostle. Evidently there were not only false teachers who taught by word, but false scripture making the rounds.

So how could the bible be the sole authority, when what was, or was not inspiried wasn’t known, for sure, till 382AD? It was only by the authority of the pillar and ground of truth, the Church that the canon was discerned and accepted. The bible you use, you accept by TRADITION only. Tell me how do you know the book of Hebrews is inspiried? Answer TRADITION. How do you know the bible wasn’t changed from the inspiried original letters? After all many tell us the Watch Tower’s NWT is a perversion of scripture, so we see it can be done, yet accepted as the correct scriptures by many.

If the written Word of God can be preserved by the Church, the oral Tradition can also be preserved by that same pillar and ground of truth the Church. It is the same Holy Spirit who is active in BOTH. All Protestant denominations have oral traditions, and they don’t even know it. It is those traditions that make a Baptist different and distinguishable from a Presbyterian, a Presbyterian from a Methodist, a Methodist from a Lutheran etc… That’s why they each have different interpretations of the same scriptures, which is interpreted thru the lens of their particular tradition.

Sola scriptura even tells you, to HOLD FAST to BOTH oral AND written DivineTraditions, yet you ignore your only authority.

1Tim6: Timothy, KEEP THAT WHICH IS COMMITTED TO THY TRUST, avoiding profane and vain babblings,

Philip4:9 THOSE THINGS, which YE HAVE both LEARNED, and RECEIVED, and HEARD, and SEEN IN ME, DO

2Thes2:14 Whereunto he called you by OUR GOSPEL, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore, BREATHREN, STAND FAST, and HOLD THE TRADITIONS which ye have been TAUGHT, WHETHER BY WORD OR our EPISTLE.

1Thes2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye RECEIVED the WORD OF GOD which ye HEARD of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is IN TRUTH, the WORD OF GOD, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

Jn14: 26: But the Comforter, which is THE HOLY GHOST, whom the Father will send in my name, he SHALL TEACH YOU ALL THINGS, and bring all things to your remembrance, WHATSOEVER I have SAID UNTO YOU.

2Tim2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And THE THINGS that THOU HAST HEARD OF ME among many witnesses, THE SAME COMMIT thou TO FAITHFUL MEN, who shall be **ABLE TO TEACH OTHERS **also.

2Tim1:13 HOLD FAST the form of SOUND WORDS, which thou hast HEARD OF ME, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 14 THAT GOOD THING which was COMMITTED unto thee KEEP BY THE HOLY GHOST which dwelleth IN US.

True, but only because this is what God has revealed to YOU. If Islam is all you were taught and you do not know Christianity and you are living Gods word to the best of your knowledge do you really think God would hold this against you. What I think is that God knows the hearts of people. I also know God wants to send Christians to non-Christians to share the love of God as revealed in Jesus, His sinless life, His death on the Cross, His resurrection. Open hearted people, when confronted by the eternal truth of Jesus, want His love in their lives.

God change me; open my mouth; make me an instrument of Your love.
