Does it matter what denomination you are a part of?

I don’t think it even matters what religion you are a part of, let alone which denomination.

Please quote where I said this.
I wasn’t quoting. I was taking the overall theme of your position.
  1. The Catholic Church is infalliable in doctrine
  2. The Catholic Church alone has the authority to interpret scripture and declare what is apostolic teaching/traditions.
I apologize if that isn’t what you believe.

Well it’s almost ten and I’m still at work and haven’t had diner yet.

Good night all.

God Bless
Wow, I hope you have a great night sleep and don’t have to work late on a Friday night that often. I’ve been there and done that and it isn’t fun.

Calvin and Luther and many protestants sighted the church fathers in their writings as evidence that the current church doesn’t teach what the early church taught
Exactly the reason I smile when I see a post stating.
  1. This is very Catholic
  2. Accodring to history… (yes all have access to that)
  3. This is a new invention…
  4. According to the Apostles…
  5. And all its derivatives…
Additionally. Many on here need to understand the difference between capital C as in the Catholic Church and small c as on what we all are! The UNIVERSAL church!

I am interested.

How far have you studied history?

Are you aware that no mainline Protestant would be against those councils.

And then my actual question. Do you know why? (Also many on CAF miss that.)
To your question

If true, and there is no argument against those councils by “mainliners” then picking just one issue,

Why do all Protestants regardless of “line” have 66 canonical books in their bibles instead of 73?

Hi, my hangup with Steve is that he is trying to say “no” without having to say it.
🙂 how would YOU interpret THE links I posted then?

I took your answer as “yes” with conditions. If Steve is representing the Church’s current viewpoint then you are not in alignment with your Church.
While that comment was to Matthew, All I can say re: the part to me, I take seriously the consequences mentioned in scripture and the 2000 yr history of the Church that condemn division… That said, I’m not the one to judge you or anyone at death. The scriptures and Church tradition quoted, condemns division. Therefore, who am I to disagree.

Ask St Jerome? Or Cardinal Cejetan (sic) wondered.

Just a thought considering you thought you were trying to make a point!

Property referenced quotes are your domain Mr Steve!

I stick to the world we live in 😉

I can quote them. But I believe you should have seen this before. It is common knowledge they did conform to this. They wondered as I do. And as you should!

Still. Why do those “Protestants” reject those council’s.

Hint. They actually do not!

As in they (Jerome, & Cajetan) conformed to the Church on those 7 books. They no longer wondered.

From me I would just say check the history!

Regards!
Historically speaking,
  1. Council of Rome a.d. 382 (local council) decree of Pope Damasus I, he names by books, 73 in total as the canon
  2. Council of Hippo a.d. 393 (local council)
  3. councils of Carthage a.d. 397, 419 (local councils)
  4. Council of Florence a.d. 1431 ecumenical
  5. Council of Trent a.d. 1545 ecumenical
Same canon in councils, local and ecumenical since a.d. 382.
