Definitely. The gospel also talks about cutting off your arm if it causes you to sin.
In this context, it would be switching it off the moment you know it’s going to be Shakira/Jlo. Or possibly not even watching at all because of the cheerleaders/ads.
Your post seems very blamey. These people will have to answer to God, but the men watching are going to be held accountable because they chose to sin as well.
I think we have to be careful. God created men, and becoming aroused at the sight of a beautiful woman is not a sin, it’s a learned NORMAL reflex that God made so that the human race will continue.
A man’s sex drive is one reason he seeks out a woman to marry and father children with, and staying with his wife and helping her rear those children is a way that he can expect more sexual experiences throughout his lifetime.
What’s sinful is dwelling on arousal and allowing it to burn and eventually catch fire when the object of the arousal is not a man’s wife, and of course, ACTING on that arousal by pursuing a sexual experience. (I hope I’m phrasing this in an acceptable way.)
In many countries, women routinely bare part of their bodies that in the U.S., would be considered provocative and often against the law. It’s interesting that the men in Africa don’t become aroused at the sight of bare-breasted women in their villages. That’s why I said, “learned reflex.”
Male coaches generally do not become aroused at the sight of their scantily-clad athletes (e.g., figure skating, gymnastics, track and field, swimming, volleyball and beach volleyball, basketball, etc.). If they do have problems with arousal around their athletes, they have to learn to deal with it or get out of the sport–to stay in a setting where they are constantly burning would be dangerous for the women and the coach! But for the most part, it’s not a problem for male coaches–we have been part of the figure skating world for years and years, and we know of only a few coaches who became predators on their students. But most don’t.
Same for gay coaches and male students, BTW–they don’t routinely get aroused by the sight of their male athletes.
One more thing–my husband tells me that when he was a teenager, he would get aroused by the sight of the Sear’s Catalog bra ads! He would get aroused at the sight of his grandmother’s bra strap showing! MOST teenaged boys learn how to control their natural tendency towards pursuing sexual activity, and learn to deal with unexpected “arousal.”
And there are men who become aroused when they see fully-covered women–the eyebrows, or the lips, or the eyes appeal to some men! So should women do as some Muslims’ do–fully cover themselves from head to toe? Well, it seems that even that isn’t enough to stop men from becoming aroused! It’s normal physiological response in men, created so that the human race will continue!
If a man was becoming aroused by the Super Bowl halftime show, he could have walked away and filled up his chip and dip bowl.
I hope this post is helpful.
