In exchange, I received a blank stare, as if she had never heard that before - and she had been raised Catholic.
I wasn’t raised Catholic but I know of too many people who were raised Catholic and all they know of Catholicism is that it is a bunch of rules which mostly makes no sense and breaking them would send you to hell.

That’s it. Nothing about grace, mercy, forgiveness. Just a bunch of outdated, archaic rules that really have no bearing on everyday life.

Am I the only one who didn’t think the Super Bowl half time show was bad?

Really? Would you be okay with your mom, sister or daughter “dancing” like that?

Nothing about grace, mercy, forgiveness.
This must be common since I hear variations on this theme from ex-Catholics/Christians a lot.

I hadn’t spent much time thinking about this but in 6 years of Catholic school, I didn’t get this message at all. I got a bit more in high school because of being active in folk group and TEC retreats. I’m not sure what it says that that forgiveness was a nebulous afterthought. I stumbled upon the teaching of mercy and grace came much later as an adult. Its novelty is what captured my attention.

Not the only one. I didn’t see the whole thing until after the game and was hearing the people criticize it. Then I had to watch it.

I missed every criticism that was mentioned because I was caught up in the energy of the show. I had to watch it several times to catch a few and then I thought, how do you even see that unless it’s in a still shot. That’s when I realized how I was seeing tons of stills.

He may be controversial to some, but I’ve been listening to these talks from Fr. Chad Ripperger on Youtube. He’s the chief exorcist for the archdiocese of Denver and was he says about how much demons influence people out there is absolutely staggering. It all makes perfect sense.

Like that classic Greek Olympic event “Beach Volleyball”?

Yeah.

David Letterman was right: “We are very near the end of civilization.”

They don’t rely on it at all. Much of what was described is an exaggeration. The OP acknowledged he didn’t see it and is likely goi g on the stills from the show

But what you said could be said about the cheerleaders who dress and dance more raunchy than JLo or Shakira. Y’all have every game to call it out but it’s 🦗 🦗 🦗

Green Bay Packers cheerleaders are the exception. I should have said that right off. Their uniforms are almost old fashioned.

It’s a Pop Act and that is what Pop Acts have been doing for ages. I find that as I grow older and stronger in my Faith I can no longer consume the music I used to consume, which was generally Rock, Alternative, and Hip-Hop with some Pop. Now, I find myself listening to Jazz music because I feel the nature of the music is both good and not prone to sin. The Entertainment, Music, Publishing…etc…business is a dirty business so I don’t consume it as a consumer.

I also don’t condemn others for listening to it or to the artists who have talent. It’s just not for me. So, when I saw the Superbowl and the half-time show it didn’t phase me. I could hear a few of their older hits which were played on the radio in the early 2000’s. But, no, it’s not something I generally listen to. Again, I just listen to Jazz now and am learning piano to create my own music.

But again, in terms of priorities of what concerns me about the world: the Super Bowl Act isn’t one of them. I’m more concerned about reality TV like Love Island, that seems pretty damaging and exploitative. But again, it’s not something I would watch and again I don’t watch TV. I’m also worried about the general upset and anxiety felt in this country and a more divided country. Instinctively, I feel this is not going to turn out well. But again, I’m grateful to be born in such a historic period with the parents and family I have. I’m also grateful to be born Catholic and I love seeing converts like I saw today at Mass. There were twenty of them who were have way through with their RCIA. That made me happy because they all like good and Holy people.

JLo played a stripper in her last film. Each of their performances was a medley, if you will, of their body of work and culture.
Yes, she did.

I saw the movie. First, that is two hours of my life I’ll never get back. I kept thinking that it had to get better but it never did. Well, until it was over.

Second, the halftime show was just a continuation of the awful movie. Crotch close ups and hip gyrations. At least they didn’t have a phone number scrolling across the bottom of the screen to collect payment from the viewers.

JLo’s dance was just plain PORN! Let’s face it…The movie was PORN as well…she is not setting a good example for women…Married three times…and probably will get married again…It is sad that she thinks the performance at half time was ok…and I couldn’t believe her daughter was present…!

“Both of us are really respectful performers who are moms and have kids and are very conscious of what we do. We [put on] a show that I believe was a celebration of women and our Latino culture that I think was really well reserved. And that small faction of people who want to be negative about it, I can’t even let in. The message of standing up for yourself, being a women, that’s what I want to pass on to little girls – everything about you, be proud of it. I’m very proud of the performance that night.”
That quote strikes me as either self deception or lack or self awareness. In either case that is kind of alarming in an adult.

What is the “Super Bowl” anyway??? Some new religion?
Yes - actually, a branch of the religion of Sportsism. Where in prior eras great cathedrals were erected to the glory of God, in our own day, billion-dollar arenas are erected to the glory of Sports. Its main worship services are typically conducted on weekends and Monday nights. Its star athletes are raised up and celebrated as heroes worthy of emulation and praise for their great deeds and the scoring “miracles” they perform. The main sacrament of Sportism is beer, and its sacramentals include wings and nachos. During the services of the Sportsism Faith, its followers are encouraged to go forth and buy a truck. And like other religions, to criticize the Sportsism Faith is to bring down scorn and ostracism on oneself.
