I’m afraid that we live in world where ignorance and illusion abound. I voted ‘yes.’ Sex, porn, SSA and abortion make it hard to believe otherwise.

LOVE! 🙂
Well, these forums have been taken over by atheists and assorted " crazies, " so it might be so.

Revelation 12:9 RSV
And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world–he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

What does ‘deceiver’ mean to you? What I say is at least consistent with Revelations, if it is not an actual reference to a strong spell.

1 John 5:19 RSV
We know that we are of God, and the whole world is in the power of the evil one.

Why do the above quotes speak of Satan having power over the ‘whole world,’ and not just us individuals? Was it just a poor choice of ‘words,’ written as the word of the Lord?

LOVE! ❤️

Deceiver means liar. Lies can cause temptation but they cannot overcome the will.

There are no poor choice of words in the Bible, only poor interpretations.

Regarding Satan power: It is limited.

395 The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. He cannot prevent the building up of God’s reign. Although Satan may act in the world out of hatred for God and his kingdom in Christ Jesus, and although his action may cause grave injuries - of a spiritual nature and, indirectly, even of a physical nature- to each man and to society, the action is permitted by divine providence which with strength and gentleness guides human and cosmic history. It is a great mystery that providence should permit diabolical activity, but "we know that in everything God works for good with those who love him."275

It’s no far jump to think that ‘deceiver’ also implies Satan’s ability to cast spells.

I agree, but which of us is misinterpreting? Why the phrase ‘whole world?’ I admit I have no solid proof, but I’m mostly relying on personal revelation, through contemplation.

I totally agree!

Based on my understanding of Catholic teaching and Scripture, I cannot accept this conclusion. If Satan is ever officially called a sorcerer, your great leap might be considered “no far jump”. As it stands I cannot accept your conclusion.

The one(s) proposing ideas that are not consistent with Church teaching.
Why the phrase ‘whole world?’
Because Satan lies to the whole world. All of us can be tempted by his lies.

67 Throughout the ages, there have been so-called “private” revelations, some of which have been recognized by the authority of the Church. They do not belong, however, to the deposit of faith. It is not their role to improve or complete Christ’s definitive Revelation, but to help live more fully by it in a certain period of history. Guided by the Magisterium of the Church, the sensus fidelium knows how to discern and welcome in these revelations whatever constitutes an authentic call of Christ or his saints to the Church.
Christian faith cannot accept “revelations” that claim to surpass or correct the Revelation of which Christ is the fulfillment, as is the case in certain non-Christian religions and also in certain recent sects which base themselves on such “revelations”.
I totally agree!

OK. It’s OK for us to disagree, but most members who voted, did so by mostly choosing that Satan did cast a strong spell.
The one(s) proposing ideas that are not consistent with Church teaching.
Just because there is no direct evidence in the bible does mean it is necessarily inconsistent with Church teaching.
Because Satan lies to the whole world. All of us can be tempted by his lies.
But then why isn’t it more clear by stating ‘individuals’ instead of ‘world?’

LOVE! 🙂 I too hold homosexuals in high esteem! However, as a religious and research psychologist, I believe it is in need of repentance, just as are the sinful behaviors of everyone! Sodomy, regardless of whether it’s between homosexuals or heterosexuals, is equally sinful, I do believe.
Do you think they need to repent of their temptations?
Why do people refuse to choose LOVE? With everybody choosing LOVE, which is the most fundamental human spiritual experience that we are all supernaturally inclined to harvest, the world’s problems would disappear, and we would all be destined for Heaven. But what causes our souls to reject LOVE? My own answer is that it’s the ‘strong spell’ that Satan has us under. Under the ‘good’ spirit, every soul would seek to experience LOVE and thus be saved.
Prior pain suffered can change how people act and interact, for example being betrayed can make it harder to trust people in the future.

In our secular society many people are brainwashed by scientists claiming mindless evolution has replaced God. They are deceived by men rather than Satan!

Where is the Catholic doctrine that not many people will make it to heaven?
Your deduction implies that Satan is more powerful than God.
“Many are called but few are chosen.”

Oh look someone else who doesn’t understand science.

yes, he does have parts of the world under a strong spell (not strong enough to eradicate Christianity though). The parts of the world that abort babies because the child will be female. The parts where babies prenatally diagnosed as having Downs syndrome end up being aborted 90% of the time are under the spell. The parts where God is rejected for worshiping science and money instead (look at Hollywood and how many stars own huge mansions and only one or two people live there!)

We have a culture of death and our world has become more secularized year after year.

Remember, the greatest trick the devil pulled is convincing the world he does NOT exist…

He can’t attack the church (“The Gates of Hell will not prevail”) so he goes after innocence and families and everything else. Why do you think Planned Parenthood has been able to sneak into schools so often?

A culture of death backed by Christianity perhaps.

That’s the second greatest trick. The greatest trick is convincing the world God does not exist.

But as we all know, nature abhors a vacuum.

So when God and the Devil no longer are recognized to exist, Anarchy rules.

When 9/10 of the world believes in a god these kind of comments just show a disconnect from reality.

It’s also popular to use contraception, have sexual relations with anyone, do drugs, drink a lot… Be careful using popularity as a indicator for something.

When around the world a mere 13% of the population are non-believers saying ‘the devil tricked the world into believing there is no god’ is pretty…unrealistic.
I’m curious where you got that figure. 13% of the population of what?
