Wouldn’t that only be possible if one was infallible?

Lincs
Hey, it’s not my fault the AoG agrees with the CC. Besides Linc, that’s a loaded question and you know it. The fact is that ALL protestant denominations agree with the CC on some points. The CC however is 2000 years old and the AoG is less than 100.

Lincs,

Ok, which of the protestant pastors different interpretations should we accept? Oh, or are you talking about the Orthodox Protestant Pastors’ interpretations?

Calvin all the way 👍

I’m like a fan of yours…or a stalker. You decide. But to reference a post earlier that has been in my head now.

I argue that Jesus is infallible. Church is body of Christ. Therefore, Church = Jesus = Infallible.

Matthew 16:8 discusses Jesus “Building” a Church. That is why the Church in 50 A.D. looked different than today. Because the Church is a mustard seed, that grows and is built up.

I don’t know, kinda just my thoughts.

Ok, also by what authority are protestant churches not following Calvin or the Orthodox Protestant Church? Is there a reformation against the Orthodox Protestant Church or Calvin’s Church?

👍 and we can find the mention of our Pope Linus successor of St. Peter in the Bible. Where is Calvin mentioned in the bible?. I prefer to trust a Church with long tradition and history, where all other churches splintered from including Calvin’s. Do you prefer to follow a rebellious church of little history?

Hi James,

I get where you are coming from, but if the church which claims infallibility contradicts scripture, rather plain scripture in many places, is it as such? I guess I’m trying not to carry on the rather long authority discussion here… Rather trying to get some discussion going which allows us to open scripture.

What is the Orthodox Protestant Church?

Jon
Linc mentioned in another thread a so-called “orthodox protestant thought”, and that protestant churches that don’t follow it, departed from the orthodox protestant thought. He was asked by what authority can he say they are wrong, and his “orthodox” though is right, and of course an answer to this cannot be given, because they follow the same personal interpretation practices.

I quibbled that if there is a orthodox protestant though, then where is the orthodox protestant church behind it?

For Johns benefit:

I stated for example, The Trinity, is considered orthodox Protestsnt thought. If one departs from this, one is not an orthodox Protestsnt. The authority which says they are wrong who denies as much are the scriptures.

Oh. Thanks.

Its properly called the Church of the Augsburg Confession. 😃

Contradicts scripture? Why don’t you make a new thread, so we can discuss this?, and explain how the Bible or scripture is WRITTEN TRADITION, and how it is one of three pillars of the RCC to decide along with traditions of the church, and authority of the church.

More than the scriptures, the historic Church, both east and west, and all three creeds, and the early councils.

Jon

How about the real presence, and the freedom to choose to reject grace, even if once justified? 😉

Jon
I don’t affirm the former, with Calvin on this one, a presence, but not a corporal one. The latter is rather tied up in my understanding of the perseverance of the saints. 👍

I’d like to bring this thread back to the OP.
I would say Protestants themselves do not beleive in “scripture interprets scripture”, because if they did, there would be no need for pastors or teachers. There has to be SOME authority to interpret because nowhere in the Bible does it way it interprets itself.

The authority which says they are wrong who denies as much are the scriptures.
Hmmm…can you point where that authority is?

As I can recall, the Oneness pentecostals say other protestants are wrong on the Trinity…and cite Scripture too to prove their point.

So which one is the Orthodox protestant thought on this one? Who will decide one way or the other? Who or where is that authority that will tell them so, and will believe and submit that they are wrong with their view of the Trinity?

Hi Pablope, I see our discussion of authrotiy has arrived here too!

Well frankly, scripture is abundantly clear on the Trinity, as well as the continual Traditon of the church since its beginning.
