Does the Catholic Church accept Mormons as your brother and sisters in Christ?

For by grace you have been saved through faith. I agree that Christians are to walk in the good works prepared beforehand for us to do. Good works is important for those who love God through Christ. However, our good works is not the gospel that we proclaim. There is a major distinction. Of course we are to be kind to Mormons and others outside the Christian Faith. We love Mormons by speaking the truth in love. We love all our neighbors in the way Christ commands us to love our neighbors. If you imply or explicitly tell Mormons that they are united to Christ and are your Christian siblings, you are NOT loving your Mormon relatives, neighbors, and friends. Jesus told unbelieving Jews that they were children of the devil.

I want everyone to be clear that Mormons are the mission field, and are not your siblings in Christ. I just found this on Catholic Answers.

Show me where I said that Mormons should not be told the truth?

Let me ask you this: must a person be a Christian to dine with you? Talk to you? Help you in trouble? Get your help? And, what kind of Christian must they be?

Of course not, that has nothing to do with biblical discernment. Some of the warmest helpful people are not Christians. Now, if you believe non-Christians can be reconciled to God apart from the biblical Christ, I can understand how difficult this issue is for you. I have been friends with many Mormons including a Mormon employer in whom I surfed with him and his boys. I coached many wonderful Mormon kids in Little League and were friends with their parents. It is because we love our Mormon neighbors that we speak the truth in love with them.

All we are trying to do is understand and discern the official Mormon gospel and message. It’s either true or not. We are to judge gospels and deternine if they are true or false.

No Other Gospel

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. That’s fine, I had to ask though since what you post seems shockingly contrary to what most calvinest protestants accept about the bible.

You’ve totally and completely lost me. My question was OT, so I appologize there. But I was asking whether or not you personally accept the doctrine of private judgement of the Bible. This is common with people of your faith views. As a Catholic I accept that the Magesterium is the final authority on interpeting the word of God. I also accept that I should study the Bible my self, because just because I don’t have final authroity, it doesn’t mean I can’t have a whole bunch revealed to me.

Thank you for both of those posts. It is the answers that I knew would be the official Magestrium position in regards to Mormonism. If Catholics still believe that Mormons are your Christian siblings, I suggest that you guys bring this up with the Catholic apologists on Catholic Answers. I am 99.99% certain that they would agree with me that Mormons are not your siblings in Christ.

Yes, I had a hard copy of the Catechism and the Companion of the Catechism years ago. I also can find it on line. I no longer have a hard copy of the Catholic Catechism. Catholic ecumenicism is really confusing the Catholic people IMO. 🙂

Catholics and Protestant believe that the Bible is the Word of God. Mormons believe the Bible is the Word of God as long as it is correctly translated. They basically believe that the Catholic Church distorted the Bible, therefore it is no longer trustworthy apart from the Mormon Magisterium which includes the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Price of Great Pearl. The Book of Mormon is considered to be the most correct of all books, and is above the Bible which has been corrupted by the Catholic Church. The spiritual battle is always about authority. 🙂
