Praise God.

There is some confusion over terminology. Some people call born again believing to be Saved, some people called Saved being baptized in the Holy Spirit, some people call baptism in the Holy Spirit THE BAPTISM IN WATER. We just need to get our terms STRAIGHT.
We a ll want the SAME THING.
We all want THE MOST WE CAN GET OUT OF BEING CHRISTIAN and TO BE ALL THAT GOD WANTS US TO BE. I do not mean that in a selfish way. Some folks like to slice and dice words. We all are subject to it, sometime–I figure.
The belief we have all come into–and we are all being made into a perfect man and are getting this straight, all of us–which is portrayed at the beginning the the Bible, shows us folks believing to be Saved. The disciples believed and the three thousand saved at the beginning of the book of Acts of the Apostles believed BEFORE ANYONE HAD TONGUES. The tongues-thing was SEPARATE.
So we have disciples wanting to follow Jesus and even Sent Out by him doing miracles before the tongues-speaking at PENTECOST–the thing portrayed in Acts… These people were believers. What the apostles knew was that they had been empowered at PENTECOST and that Jesus had told them to WAIT until that happened before going out–to fulfill the commission to go and preach to the nations. If you have ever experienced this BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT that happened to them then–which John the Baptist described and which was “the promise” coming to them and is our “earnest” on what is coming up for us after this life: YOU KNOW YOU NEED IT.
The apostles began asking when people had been saved BY BELIEF, “Have you received the Holy Spirit SINCE YOU BELIEVED”! “We have not even heard there was such a thing!” So they told them about it–they needed it! Most of us have not even heard there was such a thing! We get it confused with the baptism of water. There is only ONE baptism of water–but see what comes Laying On Hands.
Acts 19:2 “And he said to them: Have you received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? But they said to him: We have not so much as heard whether there be a Holy Ghost. 3 And he said: In what then were you baptized? Who said: In John’s baptism. 4 Then Paul said: John baptized the people with the baptism of penance, saying: That they should believe in him who was to come after him, that is to say, in Jesus. 5 Having heard these things, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had imposed his hands on them, the Holy Ghost came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. 7 And all the men were about twelve.”
And even Laying On Hands NOT:
Acts 15:15 "And when I [PETER] had begun to speak, the Holy Ghost fell upon them, as upon us also in the beginning. 16 And I remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said: John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 17 If then God gave them the same grace, as to us also who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ; who was I, that could withstand God?
[Douay-Rheims Bible]
Those folks RECEIVED THE BAPTISM–OF THE HOLY SPIRIT–WITHOUT THE LAYING-ON OF HANDS BY HEARING THE GOSPEL AND THEN THEY WERE BAPTIZED WITH WATER. NOTICE HOW IT WAS IDENTIFIED WITH THE SAME THAT HAD HAPPENED TO THEM EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE NO FLAMES.
WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? ONE: THE APOSTLES THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO MAKE SURE THEY HAD IT. TWO: GOD THOUGHT IT IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO MAKE SURE THEY HAD IT. THREE: THE LORD SAID IT IS A GRACE THAT WE RECEIVE.
NOTICE–THOSE FOLKS SAY THINGS LIKE: “The Holy Spirit said No when we tried to go into Asia.” They are hearing from the Holy Spirit. This is the experience WE HAVE who have received the baptism–of the Holy Spirit–AND WE KNOW IT IS A PROMISE AND BASIC.

BTW I didn’t write that, Wendy did, but I find her words perfectly clear. If, by gnomic, you mean incomprehensible, I for one comprehend. Please read John 3 and Jesus’ gentle words in answer to Nicodemus. Unless you are Born Again you will neither see nor enter the Kingdom of God. You might have meant ‘Gnostic’ but there is no secret understanding given to special people. The Holy Spirit will teach you ALL things. Ask HIM! And ask the Catholic Church (and a few others) why they don’t advocate (maybe thats too polite a word) Jesus’ recommendation to be Born Again?
