Does the Eucharist stop remaining bread?

He did say “My Flesh is food INDEED and my Blood is drink INDEED”

And He said that “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His Blood, you have no life in you”

He also took bread and said “This is my body” .
He never called a door or a vine his body.

I would also like to remind you that there was ALREADY a symbol of His Body. The Passover lamb.

How do you decide which parts are literal and which parts figurative?

What about his saying “My Flesh is food INDEED and my Blood is drink INDEED” ? (Some translations Evan put it as “My Flesh is REAL food and my Blood is REAL drink”. Does “real” no longer mean “real”?

Jesus said

This is my body. Not this represents my body. Jesus said this IS my body

The Last Supper
…Luke 22:18For I tell you that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 19And He took the bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body, given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you

That’s pretty clear. Jesus made it pretty clear.

🕊️🙏.

And the Catholic Church has confessed this truth.

Bootsy,

I think it might be helpful to look at how the Church believed and acted in the centuries prior to Martin Luther. What did the saints believe?

Not even prior to Martin Luther. Even he believed in the Real Presence. Lutherans continue to believe in the Real Presence to this day.

Correct. Jesus never ran after those who left saying, “Hey, I didn’t mean it literally! I was speaking metaphorically.” No, they left BECAUSE they knew He meant it literally.

Then if you take body and blood to be literal, you should take whole Bible literal! Cut of your hand, I am sure it has made you sin, and then go ahead and pluck your eye out too, bc surely at one point it made you sin! Those are Jesus words as well

We cant cherry pick the Bible. The passover lamb was signifying the perfect sacrifice to come …Jesus. Everything in the Bible points to Jesus! The perfect lamb, who died for us while we were yet sinners. Weird to think Jesus ate himself at the latest supper. The Lord will continue to reveal truths to us if we seek him through His word in the Bible. I don’t look to what the Lutheran Church or Catholic church did in the past, I look to Gods Word.
Bootsy

Do you understand how Catholics read and interpret the Bible?

This seems to be a sticking point , a hurdle in your understanding why we know the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus are right there with us in the Mass and in the Tabernacle.

And yes , the Bible is Christocentric. Jesus is the first and the last.

Interesting fact I heard tonight. There were 16 million or so recorded Martyrs pre twentieth century. In the 20th century we have 7 million recorded Martyrs alone. And last century has been the worst we have had, historically.

How do you decide which parts are literal and which parts figurative?
This is the right question to ask. How do we determine how scripture is interpreted? If I read it one way, and you read it another way, who is to say which is right? Who has the authority to interpret scripture?

And what about the earliest Christians who came before the New Testament had even been finished or assembled? How do we know which books do belong in the bible and which books don’t? Who has the authority to decide these things?

Jesus didn’t leave us a book, he left us a Church. It is this Church that gave us the bible and alone has the authority to interpret it.

What’s Your Authority?
Scripture and Tradition
Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth

So I am going to assume you take every word Jesus said as symbolic and not literal. So when He said, “I am the Way the Truth and the Life, No one comes to the Father except through me”, you don’t take that literally, am I right?

So, if I say the Spirit has guided me to my interpretation and you claim the Spirit has guided you to your interpretation, who is to say which is right?
Matthew 18:16-18
16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses.
17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
18 Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Jesus gives the Church authority.

My links do not show that they have been clicked on yet, so unless the forum is not functioning correctly, I am left to believe that you haven’t taken the time to read the links I have provided?

The church didn’t give us the Bible. God alone is the author, we should be careful giving credit to humans for the Bible. The old testament was not recorded by “Catholic’s” Many Jews had a hand in keeping the written record, the Torah, according to God’s inspiring. Jesus referred to it also. So what we have left is the new testament. Much of that recorded over periods of time, God breathed. All glory and honor goes to God for the Bible. Not Catholics.
And how do you know which books belong in the bible? There are several Old Testament books that are often left out of protestant bibles, yet Jesus and the writers of the New Testament quote from them. On who’s authority did they decide to remove those books?

And what of the various Gnostic gospels and other writings of the early Church? Who decided what was and what was not scripture?

I did not say the Catholic Church sat down, wrote the bible, and handed it to us. What I’m saying is the Catholic Church, which is given authority to do so by Jesus, has handed down the faith to us, which includes the Canon of Scripture.

God gave us the Bible, please do not give humans credit
And by what method did God give us the Bible? Did it drop out of the heavens directly into the printing press? No, God used inspired human authors, who each have their own literary style. We don’t read the bible literally, we read it literarily, taking into account the author, the subject, the writing style, the type of text (historical, poetry, parable, narrative, etc…)

And since God gave us the Bible, why have books been removed by protestants? The question all comes down to Authority.

So what allows you to determine which things are literal and which things are figurative? What is the authority you use to make sure you have the correct interpretation? Because Scripture is not supposed to be to private interpretation.

Did you know denial of the Eucharist only began after like the 10th century? The earliest disciples, all believed in it and took it very literally. I think Jesus’ disciples knew what He meant. 🙂

Bootsy, God didn’t write the books, He employed humans for that. Make sense?

Although God did write the 10 Commandments in stone, twice!

How was the Catholic Church given authority by Jesus?
Already gave you verses for this, and links that outline the Church’s authority (that still haven’t been clicked on according to the forum software).
