Doesn't the Bible teach us that Jesus did have siblings??

Fair is fair, right? Ah, the ‘eye for an eye’ theory. Sure is different from the “Turn the other cheek” theory and the “bless those who curse you.”

God bless you.

A person has an interpretation, a church or denomination has an interpretation and your Magisterium has an interpretation. What’s the difference? They are all interpretations its just that you believe that the Magisterium’s is right. Others believe it is not.
That Catholic interpretation comes from Christ himself. The Catholic church was established by Christ himself.

Christ prays to the Father (it’s in the bible) that we all be one as they (God the Father and God the Son) are one. He prays for unity. Do you think Father and Son have different opinions about how to achieve salvation? whether abortion is right or wrong? on Baptism? whether there should be music in church? I doubt it. God wants us all to be one just as Father and Son (the Spirit too!) are one. He wants unity.

The Catholic church has that unity. Jesus set it all up before he left earth. The Catholic church has protected and upheld Christ’s teachings from day one (1Tim 3:15).

Did you know that you can go to Mass anywhere in the world and hear the same scripture readings on any given day? Unity.

All the other thousands of denominations have as many different interpretations. How can they all be right? They can’t. From one protestant church to the next, there is at least one thing they differ on.

Have you troubled yourself to learn how and under what conditions the Pope speaks infallibly? Is he infallible every time he opens his mouth? What if he says he thinks it’s going to rain? Do you even understand how all of that works?

Please go once again to www.biblechristiansociety.com and get the talk entitled “One Church” It speaks of this unity that Jesus prayed for.

Infallibilty is nothing that the scriptures ever say. Even Peter himself scripture says was not infallible. I don’t believe anyone is infallible except for God. I believe that we as one church (all the believer’s) in unison with the intercession of the Holy Spirit can interpret scripture. 1 Timothy says to read and study the word so that you will know the truth. Scripture never suggests it to a hierarchy but to us as individuals. As far as the perpetual virginity of Mary I don’t believe it is a Scriptural teaching although it is a Catholic teaching. Same as the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption.
This is where i see the real difference between catholics and everyone else.

You state that the Holy Spirit will intercede so you can interpret scripture.

I agree. However, only one faith has a single version of this interpretation…catholic.

Islam interprets the Quran thousands of ways.

Litterally thousands of Christian sects interpret scripture thousands of ways.

Catholics are universal.😉

Infallibilty is nothing that the scriptures ever say.
Scripture says that the church is the fountain of truth – meaning that false teaching can NOT come from it. Jesus also promised that He would send His Holy Spirit to the church to guide it in ALL truths. We know that this promise was not meant for individuals privately; otherwise, how do you explain that private individuals have arrived at different conclusions on …

Even Peter himself scripture says was not infallible.
Where does Peter say that? Chapter & verse please.
I don’t believe anyone is infallible except for God.
And, as I said above, God’s Holy Spirit is guiiding the Church in all truths.
Scripture never suggests it to a hierarchy but to us as individuals.
On the contrary. St. Paul goes into great depth explaining the hierarchy of the church.
I believe that we as one church (all the believer’s) in unison with the intercession of the Holy Spirit can interpret scripture.
First off, the church is not MERELY a group of believers. The bible is very clear on this. The church has an official & visible structure with appointed (not SELF-appointed) bishops, priests, etc. Secondly, WITH the intercession of the Holy Spirit one CAN can interpret scripture BUT there is NO assurance in scripture that every individual will have that guidance of the Holy Spirit. If they did, there would not be wide disagreement on …

… because the Holy Spirit would bring everyone to the SAME truth and NOT to CONFLICTING points of view.
1 Timothy says to read and study the word so that you will know the truth.
IF we understand it correctly, we will know the truth and if we misunderstand it, 1 Peter tells us that it bring about our ruin.
As far as the perpetual virginity of Mary I don’t believe it is a Scriptural teaching although it is a Catholic teaching. Same as the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption.
The fact that something is not found in scripture has no bearing on anything. Doesn’t scripture itself command us to obey the ORAL instructions that were handed down to us?

And may I remind you that scripture came FROM the Catholic Church. It was the Catholic Church which decided which books went into the bible and which books were kept out. If they had the authority to do that, then they have authority OVER the bible and if you take the position that they do not have authority over the bible, then they did not have authority to put together the bible either and you need to explain why you follow it’s teachings.

Eggsactly.

The RCC’s self-proclaimed authority, and infallibility are just that—self-proclaimed—not
very convincing.

I’m the King of the World! 😃

Self-proclaimed? Hardly! I guess you haven’t been following along. Here are some scripture passages which explicitly or implicitly speak of infallibility in the Church founded by Jesus Christ which has been known since the first century as the Catholic Church:
  • Matthew 28:18-19 = Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’
  • Luke 10:16 = He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me.
  • John 14:16-17 = If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
  • John 14:26 = But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
  • John 16:13 = But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
  • John 20:21 = Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’
  • 1 Thessalonians 2:13 = And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.
  • 1 John 4:6 = We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

Not following along? Hardly!

I’ve been on this forum for two years, and have heard the same arguments countless times. 🙂
Then why do you disbelieve the passages that I quoted from the Word of God which supports these arguments?

You are turning a deaf ear to that which you desire to turn a deaf ear to.

The Catholic church’s authority is Christ proclaimed. It is HIS church.

<<I hope so brother! 🙂 - the one thing I don’t want to have in seeking out God’s wisdom is a thick skull. 😃

May God Bless, Pat 🙂 >>

And by your use of “brother,” do you mean to imply we have the same biological mother?

I don’t think so. 😛

Good point, brother.

From your sister.😉 😛

<<The RCC‚s self-proclaimed authority, and infallibility are just that˜self-proclaimed˜not

As I understand it, the pope is infalliable only under certain carefully defined conditions.

However, every Protestant considers himself infallible in all things.

At least, that’s how it seems to me.

Sir Knight:

You falsely assume that my rejection of your understanding of those passages is “disbelief.” 🙂

This is worth repeating.

However every protestant considers himself infallible in all things."**

Thanks bpb…

Little Mary:
You are turning a deaf ear to that which you desire to turn a deaf ear to.
As are you.

Pertaining to the other children of Mary, if the Catholic didn’t have a commitment to RCC tradition, and, a so-called “infallibly defined dogma” (to which he must wholly submit), leading him to believe that the plain meaning of the words “brothers, and sisters, and until” cannot be understood in their plain sense with respect to the Lord, then, and only then, could the plain meaning of the words prevail.**Mark 3:17

…James, the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James…**Does James have a brother?

If so, why doesn’t Jesus?

A 12 year gap??? And then a passel of other kids all of a sudden? Possible, but most unlikely. I’d go so far as to say that my mother, herself a mother of five as well as having been a doctor for 35 years, would never have seen such a case.:
My step mother and her dh were married, used no protection and did not concieve until their 13th year of marriage. They now have 2 sons 3 and 2 as well as my half sister who is now 20yrs 😃

You falsely assume that my rejection of your understanding of those passages is “disbelief.” 🙂
If my understanding of those passages is incorrect, then perhaps you would be kind enough to show me where the mistakes were made.

I can’t subscribe to this belief. Why? Well, because it is simply not Biblical. Nowhere in scripture does it say or even suggest that Mary and Joseph didn’t do on to have a normal physical marriage. I am not mocking your belief here, I am simply saying that Scripture even goes on to say that they didn’t have a physical relationship UNTIL after Jesus was born. Your belief is not supported an ounce in the Bible but yet to believe that Jesus had brothers and sisters is. I think that you have to work far more to make an argument for the perpetual virginity of Mary than you do to just read scripture for what it says.
This is my biggest concern…not whether of not Jesus’ had siblings, but why scripture says UNTIL and yet she is still a virgin after Jesus birth and her marriage. That makes no sense to me. 😊
