“the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist in Ann Arbor MI will be featured on the mega-popular Oprah Winfrey show on February 9th – the 13th anniversary of this new Dominican community of religious sisters.”

Hope its true. I’ll be watching for it. 👍

Yes, it is true. I am one of their supporters so I receive mail and e-mail from them. I received a lovely letter from them telling me to “spread the word”. I think it is a great idea even if you don’t apporve of what Oprah stands for. Oprah has become a follower of many New Age guru’s and has been following their practices. I think she is having a Saint Paul type of experience. Having these sisters on her show is going to knock her off her high horse and heaven only knows…if Oprah doesn’t change her ways maybe some of the many viewers will. I will be setting my recorder.

I disagree with this completely. This is just as bad as Notre Dame having Obama speak at their graduation.
Oprah Winfrey is NOT a Christian and I think the Sisters are making a huge mistake going on her show. She will only give lip service to the Sisters and what they have to say.
Bad idea all around.
Oprah is just full of herself and as radically liberal as they come…not to mention as phony as a three dollar bill.😦

I agree. In the words of Obi-Wan Kenobi, “I have a bad feeling about this.” >_>

Let’s think about this for a sec:
  1. Oprah’s pretty much an instrument of the liberal agenda.
  2. The Catholic Church has always been lambasted for leaning to the right in its stances on gay marriage and abortion.
  3. She’s having these nuns on her show.
Am I the only one who finds this just a tad bit suspicious? Doesn’t this sound a little too good to be true? :ehh:

I concur with those who think it is not a wise move. I used to be a Religious & sometimes Religious, for all their good-will & holiness, are quite naive in the ways of the World.
The Sisters run the risk of people thinking that because they are appearing on Oprah’s Show they in fact agree with her…Second, I am not sure they will have the where-with-all
to confront her esp. if she turns nasty or sarcastic. Hollywood is nortoriously anti-Catholic if not totally anti-God. My the Holy Spirit guide the good Sisters to do and say the right thing. They will be like the 3 Youths in the Firery Furnace or Daniel in the Lion’s Den!
We need to pray for them…

I love this order! My daughter is a novice nun there and will take her first vows in August.

I think the show will be positive. God will protect them. The order has been growing leaps and bounds. In 13 years they have 99 nuns. They just built a new “addition” called phase 3 and it’s full already. The Holy Spirit has truly inspired the leadership of this order and I think if we pray hard enough Oprah will not only become Catholic, but she will join the order. 😉 OK, that’s a stretch. But it’s obvious that she is searching for something. Let’s pray she finds it in our Lord.

:tiphat: God bless you and your daughter. I love this order too. This is exactly the order I would join if I were a young gal. Any aspiring teaching sister should definitely consider this order.
Wasn’t there a quote from the bible about not hiding your lamp, but let it shine! Sometimes it is necessary to use enemy territory to spread the good news. Missionaries are always going into forbidden territory. Mother Angelica once used mafia men when she was starting her EWTN project. Jesus dined with prostitutes and taxpayers.
You GO Dominican Sisters! :egyptian::flowers:

Yesterday I heard a repeat of Kresta in the Afternoon. Al was talking to Mother about this. She said that the filming went well and that day two of the sisters had gone to Chicago for the taping. She has spoken to them and said it went well
This isn’t like Obama at Notre Dame. They were not honoring Oprah. I don’t expect Oprah to be completely supportive of them but I think it is a good way to reach many people. There may be young women out there who never thought about being a sister and this could plant seeds.

I just set my recorder. I was a bit surprised to see that the show will not be entirely about the sisters. Part of the show will be an interview with a working geisha. The description went on to say …and a visit to a present day “nunnery”. Is the word “nunnery” still used today? Oprah couldn’t just honor the sisters without being “fair ahd balanced” or she would be ridiculed by her secularist suporters.
Okay young women of today…here is your choice according to Oprah:
The ??glamour?? of the life of a geisha
or
The sacrificing of yourself as a “celebant” sister.

Let’s start praying that today’s young women have the common sense to “choose” wisely.

Hopefully, Oprah Winfrey will let these Sisters talk.

I actually quit watching the Oprah Winfrey show 10 years ago.

She would always interrupts her guests and talk more about herself.

I wouldn’t walk into the next room to see Oprah if she was in there.

These Sisters will be a light in the darkest darkness. I heard that one of the Sisters gave Oprah a Rosary at the end of the show. Don’t know this for sure.

sounds like a great idea. these sisters will be champions of discipline, chastity, Godliness, prayer, and Christ on a program which tends to respect and listen to none of those things.

i hope Oprah will be respectful and gracious. and that these sisters will have the chance to share Christ, to point the way towards the virtues of purity and Christian prayer, and to show the world that yes, there is another option out there.

also kind of wary and nervous about it, but if God gives you the chance to stand before a queen of this world, an unconscious Jezebel in need of help and saving, wouldn’t you take that opportunity?

I watched Oprah and thought it was nice. She let the sisters speak for themselves. I live in their town. The local station also went to talk to the sisters and visit their local schools. The reporter (who is a good Catholic) said that the sisters invited Oprah to come to the house and the schools and she said she would. Lets see.

I also thought it was great.

The nuns, from novitiate on up, were all to a women, well spoken, well adjusted, knowledgable and very happy. Sometimes Oprah had a look as though she couldn’t understand how they could be all of that, but all-in-all, Oprah did very well in containing herself.

I actually wish my teenage daughters could have seen it, not because I want or don’t want them to do something like become a nun, but because these women were just so wonderful and full of life and good cheer and were most of all, in love with Christ Jesus…🙂

I was soooo happy just looking at, just them talking made me really sure being Carmelite is what I want to do.
