President Donald Trump’s approval with black voters rose nine points during the Republican National Convention, according to a Hill-HarrisX poll conducted August 22-25.

The poll asked one question: “Do you approve or disapprove of the job Donald Trump is doing as President of the United States?”

The Hill reported:
Twenty-four percent of registered black voters in the Aug. 22-25 survey, which included the first two days of the convention, said they approve of the job Trump is doing as president, while 76 percent said they disapprove.

That is up 9 points from the previous survey conducted Aug. 8-11, where the President received 15 percent support among this group.

The survey found support among Hispanic voters also grew . . .

Let me get this straight: You think a 24% approval rate is good?

Good enough to win the election, if that translates to actual votes.

Yes, this is good news. Do folks really want the police unfunded and not around?

And let me tell you, there seems to be some bad things that happened in Minneapolis, you’d have to really study it to get the most true and balanced picture but it does seem that they’ve suffered a bad crime wave.

Defund the police and who do you hurt most?

Some may see a vote for the Democrats as nothing more than a vote for Planned Parenthood, a special interest for the Democrats, a vote against the Police. Things that are not good at all. Afterall, the Democratic Senate candidate in Minnesota, is a former Planned Parenthood director. This person, Tina Smith, like so many, need to be voted out.

You hurt those in the inner city who have to put up with crime. For every American black killed by a police officer while unarmed (regardless of circumstances) about 270 are killed by other American blacks. That has nothing to do with melanin. It has to do with crime. Crime goes up without police presence.

How does Trump relate to black folks? Mostly photo ops and no backup.

“Many people didn’t go out — many Blacks didn’t go out — to vote for Hillary because they liked me. That was almost as good as getting their vote,” Mr. Trump said, lowering his voice to say the word “Blacks,” on a recording provided by a meeting participant and confirmed as authentic by three others. (A White House spokesman did not dispute the veracity of the recording.)…

As the 2020 campaign hits the homestretch, Mr. Trump has been claiming that he is the best president for Black Americans since Abraham Lincoln and papering over his history of racist remarks by having Black supporters at the Republican convention back his boast that he “is the least racist person in the world.”

In fact, Mr. Trump has hired very few Black officials to positions of authority in the White House and for his re-election effort . And his campaign has stoked racial divisions to an extent not seen since George Wallace’s run in 1968. He has tried to block or hamper efforts to expand ballot access. He has said Black people were “too stupid” to vote for him, according to his estranged former attorney, Michael Cohen.

When asked about Mr. Cohen’s charge, a White House spokesman emailed a statement by Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany calling Mr. Cohen, “a disgraced felon and disbarred lawyer, who lied to Congress.”

And as the 2017 meeting illustrates, many of Mr. Trump’s interactions with Black leaders have followed a similar pattern: He has turned opportunities for reconciliation, or even to debate policy differences, into empty-calorie encounters in front of the cameras, according to interviews with more than 30 Black officials, civil rights leaders, and former and current administration officials.

Trump campaign officials told reporters last week that they were working hard to slightly exceed their performance with Black voters in 2016 when they won about 8 percent of their vote. The president has also tried to mollify white moderates who might be turned off by his racial rhetoric.

The result is a jarring, split-screen approach: The president talks up his friendships with Black Americans (often famous ones like Kanye West) while running a campaign whose objective is to frighten white suburban voters into thinking a Biden presidency will bring problems from inner-city America to their front lawns.

“The goal of the these things was just to get him through the meeting, then get the picture,” said Anthony Scaramucci, the former Trump aide, now an outspoken critic of the president, who set up several meetings between Mr. Trump and Black sports figures, including the football legend Jim Brown.

Do Republicans believe polls or do they not?
I am not sure. I think because of 2016 many do not trust the polls.

I am skeptical of them my self. Interestingly I grew up hearing that if a Republican got more than a certain % of the black vote, that it would be a land slide win.

Things have made a drastic change in recent years, and I am not sure the old tactics of collecting information have caught on.

I have heard some polls say that Trump has gotten up to 40% of black support. I doubt the poll, but one thing is certain. Trump is indeed growing support among the “Minorities”

I used to know a guy who was involved in the polling and data operations of the RNC.

I asked him once if he/they know the views/partisanship of people who didn’t answer polls. He said they didn’t. That’s the big imponderable.

And apparently polling has become more difficult in the age of cell phones as well.

In my puny little world. I know some who support Trump. I have heard a few times that people are afraid of sating they support Trump, because people loose friends over this, or get doxed and so on. I told one of them, hey I’ll get you a trump hat if you’d like. And I was told, No Way! I do NOT want to get in to confrontations.

I wonder how widespread this really is.

Well, polls are largely on the phone. BUT, we screen calls on the landline and don’t answer cell phones unless we know the caller.

I don’t know. You can’t have a phone poll of people who don’t answer the phone to ask them about their politics. 🤔

I wonder if there is a significant number of people who won’t even tell a pollster they are for Trump.

I do wonder.

In my small world, and I mean tiny circle of people around me. They do NOT want Biden. Some are even voting for Trump as the vote against Biden. This is particularly the case of an older cuban lady, who does not like how Trump talks and acts, but she is scared of Biden/Harris. She only watches Spanish news, as I understand.

I have a very staunch Democrat neighbor. He told me he is and will always be a Democrat. He had a Biden sign on his yard at the beginning of this year. He took it off. But he kept other local officials signs. He recently took all of them off.

One thing is for sure. I do not think any polls can really capture this stuff. I rarely see Biden signs around.

Covid-19 kills more blacks than are killed by white police officers. Vehicular traffic accidents kill more blacks than are killed by white police officers.

Tell your statistical factoid to a black person who has experienced police brutality.

Why do white folks seem to love to wave around black violence statistics in conversations not related to that issue?

"My social media timelines of late have been filled with outrage over the police killings of unarmed black citizens, but after a violent Fourth of July weekend around the nation that left several children dead, I noticed an uptick in snarky posts asking: “What about black-on-black crime? Why aren’t you protesting about that?”

The “what about black-on-black crime” rejoinder usually is meant to imply that African Americans are indifferent to the thousands of young black men — and increasingly, black children — who are slain every year in gun violence. It insinuates that black people blithely accept killings by our own that have racked some communities for decades and take to the streets only when white police officers are doing the killing."
