Bill Clinton was impeached. Ever since the Clinton presidency there has been particularly nasty relations between the president and the opposing party. I am not sure we should be surprised that Obama was vilified. Of course, he was not an angel either. Obama was never denied anything he was owed. The issue is, we don’t owe presidents much and the opposing party is always ready to point that out.
Any system where the opposition is not expected to be as critical of the administration that is in power would be a horrific, undemocratic, even totalitarian system.

It is the purpose of a two party or multi party system that each hold the others’ feet to the fire.

It is worrisome then that the question is even being raised, and so many people slur any criticism of a sitting black president as “vilification” in the first place.

Should Monica Lewinsky been invited by Hillary to share her bedroom to make her (Monica’s) fornication easier?

If I were married and any women fornicated with my husband, both of them had better watch out! I’d make Hillary look like an amateur! And revenge and jealousy aren’t even a part of who I am. But no one would fool with my family and get away with it.
I guess you are too young to remember and I am not sure how the news played in Europe at the time, but Monica was a 22 year old intern. Bill was the most powerful man in the world. He was more at fault. He should have known better. He was already being sued for sexual harassment by Paula Jones from when he was governor. I guess you might not be old enough to remember, he exposed himself to her. He was in a position of power over her.

It’s actually called adultery when one member is married. Bill and Monica committed adultery, not fornication.

In the words of Melissa Click our liberal wonder of a scholar…
I understand how the increased surveillance resulting from advances in technology like digital recording and wireless broadband has come to mean that our mistakes will be widely broadcast — typically without context or rights of rebuttal — exposing us to unprecedented public scrutiny.
But I do not understand the widespread impulse to shame those whose best intentions unfortunately result in imperfect actions. What would our world be like if no one ever took a chance? What if everyone played it safe?
The land of political double standards, But the violence and the silence is uncalled for.

This 👍 Yet I have a feeling these facts can be reiterated ad nauseum with little to no effect on those who refuse to accept the truth

The meaning of sexual harassment tends to change according to whom is doing the harassing. Exposing oneself is not at all harassment. Discussing a porno film all of a sudden women become fragile flowers and that is harassment.

That’s what I learned listening to the news in the late 80’s early 90’s.

I supported Bill Clinton politically and still believe he was a great President. But his affair with Monica Lewinsky and his lying about it was enough, in my view, to not only have him impeached but to oust him from the Presidency. His character was lacking in a big way here, and I agreed with Ross Perot at the time. Bill Clinton was/is a sexual addict and needs help for his addiction. I do not fault Hillary Clinton, however, in any way; not on this issue.

I do, she fashions herself as the arbiter of racist/sexist behavior in the public political realm. She blamed the victim like Sally. Then stated some wild racist and sexist comment about men escaping the womens reservation last night. 😃

I don’t deny Bill Clinton committed adultery, but I think Monica committed fornication. She wasn’t married. But I don’t think Hillary enabled Bill or threatened Monica.

I see your point. But don’t forget that Hillary herself was a major victim. Monica was too in the sense she was the subordinate of Bill Clinton, so there was a huge power play at work. At the same time, Hillary was trying to salvage her marriage, and no, we don’t know for sure whether this was purely for the purpose of political expediency. How could we know her motivation? She may indeed still have feelings for her husband. To me, despite Hillary’s wishing to be the champion for women’s rights, this is a very personal situation and we should cut her some slack. There are plenty of other things we can criticize Hillary for if we are disposed to do so.

That’s the way I feel about it. I don’t think Hillary Clinton was an enabler, and I don’t think any of us knows why she put up with infidelity. There is no whiff of her being unfaithful, and I don’t think Bill’s long past actions (he seems to have gotten help) reflect badly on Hillary.

you have over 6 thousand posts, which we can’t wade through.

Instead of deflecting, post a link you your favorite personal expose on her brilliance.
I sincerely doubt anyone is deflecting. Probably just has other things to do besides repeating over and over what has already been said not that long ago. You don’t have to wade thru over 6000 posts. I already knew Lily had referenced and spoken about Hillary’s accomplishments. But I just found one of her posts by going back just a week and a half ago. No big deal. 🤷

There is more than a “whiff” of her being unfaithful as well…just not with men.

Sally Miller is not the only one to say that Hillary is a lesbian, and her marriage to Bill is strictly a political convenience to them both.

I do not know (nor do I care) about their sexual preferences, just wanted to point out that there is much more than a “whiff”.

I do care that President Bill Clinton got away with sleeping with a young intern…an action that would have resulted in the immediate firing of the CEO of any company anywhere. Worse yet, this is just one example of a long list of improprieties that he has been accused of.

I also care a great deal that Hillary Clinton is a kleptocrat and used her position as Secretary of State to become enormously wealthy via the Clinton Foundation.

I also care a great deal that Hillary Clinton has been caught in so, so, so many blatant lies. Absolute lies. Not quasi-truths, not exaggerations…outright LIES.

It astounds me that so many people would support her.

42 years ago a president showed his courage and love of country by resigning from office because he made a stupid decision and then lied about it. Now we, the people, are going to elect a habitual liar and kleptocrat as president.

What happened to my country?!?!

Nothing. It’s still very much alive and here and stands out as a great beacon of hope and is as powerful and strong as ever among the world’s nations.

Disagree. We have lost our moral compass. Compare Nixon with Clinton. Nixon’s transgressions are NOTHING compared to Clinton’s, and he resigned, while Clinton is going to be elected.

We are continuing down the slippery slope of socialism, which never ends well.

Our military is certainly not as powerful and strong as ever.

And conservatives are immediately silenced by screams of bigotry, racism, homophobia…

I agree that we are still a great beacon of hope for the (actual) poor of the world. But that is fading as well.

👍

And Hillary, or Bernie, will make it stronger and better!

Well, Nixon resigned because his transgressions were so great that he WAS going to be impeached by both House and Senate. Clinton was impeached by the House, but the Senate refused to ratify that impeachment, so I would say Nixon’s transgressions were the greater. And neither has anything to do with Hillary Clinton.

Yeah, like Hillary made Libya stronger. Or Afghanistan. Iraq is a peaceful nation now because of her, right?

The only thing Hillary will make stronger is the Clinton Foundation.

Bernie is at least an honest guy. His destructive economic policies fall apart upon the most basic examination, and would quickly take us to the level of Venezuela, but at least he is honest about what he says.

Ummm…Bush started the war with Iraq, not Clinton.
