Donald Trump attacks Hillary Clinton as wins set stage for brutal election

Assuming Cruz and Kasich supporters back Trump, and I think they will, Trump has a very good chance to win the election. Not because he is a particularly great candidate either. It will be because people don’t want to elect Hillary Clinton and the Democrats. I predict she weakens considerably throughout the campaign. Trump really doesn’t have to do much but expose her for what she is and say he will “fix things.” The Democratic political correctness is stale, suffocating stuff. The more the people on the streets start to feel like they can throw it off (and not be in trouble or ostracized for it), look out. Now, what we will actually get with a Trump administration, God knows. But I think it would be better than Clinton. Trump is not an ideologue; he will hear everyone out. We will get out of this political, cultural divisiveness, this polarization. Long overdue. (and Trump will only be as good as the administration he builds - this is the time for the GOP to figure that out and get in there, have a voice)
I don’t know… the number of registered Democrats outnumbers the number of Republicans.

I know a lot of anti-trump Republicans who say they will vote for a write in candidate before voting for Trump or Clinton. There are a number of them in my parish.

The number of Democrats who don’t vote (or vote for Trump) will most likely be cancelled out by the number of Republicans who write in a vote for someone like Paul Ryan, etc.

I realize there is a lot of resistance to Trump. My thinking is that will change in the coming months, leading up to and after the convention. Most of these people in the GOP don’t want Hillary; they are just still furious/horrified by Trump, which is understandable. (I sincerely hope there is more there than just bruised egos and not wanting to admit they called it wrong.) They have to live in this country too. Their heads will clear in time, even if they are still justifiably furious and horrified. I will be surprised if the party doesn’t unite, actually.

Hillary is too power hungry not to run
Candidates who lose in the general election rarely get a second chance. If she loses, I would hope that we don’t hear of her as a candidate in 2020. I think it would be more interesting to see what happens if Trump gets the nomination and wins. Would somebody try to unseat him as the 2020 Republican nominee, regardless of what he would do in office?

I hope you are right. But most of the people I know who say never Trump say they believe it would be sinful for them to vote for Trump.

They fail to understand the concept of voting for the lesser of two evils.

Yeah, I know. Let’s keep an eye on Glenn Beck and Tony Perkins. 😉

I remain optimistic - the name Clinton carries a lot of baggage for these same people we are talking about. She is as much a motivator to the right as Trump is to the left - I mean in a negative way.

Candidates who lose in the general election rarely get a second (or third, if they were the incumbent) change at it. Plus she’ll be 73 in 2020, and some people tried to make age an issue when Reagan was the same age in '84, or was that because he was a Republican? I don’t think anybody has brought this up about Sanders, who I believe is 74? I would hope that, if she loses (and I hope does loses), we don’t hear of her as a candidate in 2020. I think a more interesting thing would be if Trump gets the nomination and wins. Would somebody try to unseat him as the Republican nominee in 2020 regardless of what he would do in office?

I really kind of meant it more tongue in cheek about the fact that Hillary is way too power hungry.

In regards to what the Republicans would do if Trump wins the general election, I guess it would depend on how well he does in his first 2.5 years.

In May of 1980 Reagan was 30 points behind Carter and the Democrats were crowing about how the republicans had handed them the elcetion

Hillary will win, the country will suffer, and liberals will talk of her like she’s god.
IDK. Perhaps she’ll be an unpopular president who has to work with, and compromise with, Congress.

True. And it is embarrassing.
So very true. We traveled out of the country recently, and friends asked what in the name of heaven can people who vote for Trump be thinking. They were aghast, as should we all be.

How do you feel about Chris Christie? Rudy Guiliani? Rick Scott?

Indeed. If Hillary cannot beat Donald, then I will not only feel foolish, but I will also never make another prediction. 😊

But I still say, despite our two-party system, the United States of America would never elect DJT president.

Former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal says he’ll vote for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton if that’s the November match-up – but he won’t be happy about it.
Jindal called the war of words Tuesday heading into Indiana’s primary between Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz “disgusting,” and he said plenty of Republicans like himself are eager for other options.
But Jindal told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin on Tuesday that Trump is likely to win Indiana and the party will have to grin and bear it.
“I think it’s likely, this election, this nomination contest could be all but over by tonight. I think it’s more and more likely that Donald Trump will be the nominee,” Jindal said.
And in a general election match-up with Hillary Clinton, Jindal said he’d get behind Trump.
“I do think he’ll be better than Hillary Clinton, I don’t think it’s a great set of choices,” Jindal said. “If he is the nominee, I’m going to be supporting my party’s nominee. I’m not happy about it … but I would vote for him over Hillary Clinton.”

This is a pretty good assessment. I, for one, am in the #NeverTrump camp, and believe that the electoral college favors the Democrat (Clinton, almost certainly.) While the Republican nominee (likely Trump) will win more states, the Dem will likely take the ones that matter. A looming question is whether disaffected Sanders supporters will turn out for Clinton, and how many Republicans will refuse to support Trump and write in someone else, or not vote for President (plenty, I think.)

Today was the worst! Trump fell to new lows in behavior.

I don’t mind when my choice doesn’t win, but I really don’t want Trump. #NeverTrump

Many of us believe that each of the likely candidates is evil in his/her own way. I never vote for a pro-abortion candidate, and believe that at least one of them is so dangerous and profoundly ill-prepared to step into the most powerful position in the world that casting a vote for either candidate would be sinful. I’ll be writing in.
