I agree with Trump that we should close the borders to Mohammedans. It is to protect the country from people that pose a legitimate threat. We shouldn’t wait until they are bombing every day to start closing the borders.
Do you believe that your views are consistent with the stances taken by the Holy Father and Bishops regarding our attitude towards immigrants?

No. We are not obliged to comply with the opinions of the Bishops on this matter. The Catholic Church does not teach that a country should throw open their borders to whoever wants to come in. Some Bishops may think so and will present their opinions as if they are de fide, but the teachings of the Church command no such thing.

I don’t know the constitutionality of what Trump said of the wisdom of his saying it, but I think it quite naive to deny that the country is threatened by Islamic extremism. The United States armed forces have been engaged in combat in Muslim nations since October of 2001, and that is just a fact. We all know how this began.

I cannot speak for all, but my moral convictions are not based on convenience, fear or expediency.

There is no such thing as a “Mohammedan”. Those folks are called Muslims.

All Muslims are no more terrorists than all Americans are fools.

. The United States armed forces have been engaged in combat in Muslim nations since October of 2001, and that is just a fact. We all know how this began. No contest there, but the percentage of said extremists is small by comparison to the number of Muslims worldwide.

Trump’s idea is lame at best and inflammatory at worst. He’s not presidential material.

Do we really want someone in office who is this much of a bigoted extremist himself? One who publicly mocks a disabled person? Who lies about Muslim celebrations in New Jersey on 911, when no such occurred? I was watching something on WWII the other night and I was truck by how similar Trump’s speeches are to those of Adolf Hitler and Rudolph Hess.

If you are accusing someone of bigotry, look in the mirror, the woman who helped kill Americans in San Bernadino was not properly vetted. I take that back, what is being proposed is not being a mere bigot but being an accessory to these kinds of murders when one is saying foreigners should not be vetted.

So, you don’t care if immigrants are not vetted and then, if they kill someone, then what? We don’t care? I think people who think this way are accessories to murder.

That’ll change as we become the victim of more terror attacks.
👍

One article read that it’s almost like a gamble Trump is making, if another terrorist attack happens, he’ll certainly look like a genius.

What I think is that people really should at least read a comment before they reply to it.

Catholic Encyclopedia and multiple catechisms/religious books I have read use the word “Mohammedan”.

I did not say that all Mohammedans are terrorists. It would be like claiming all Catholics are pro-life. However, just as the Church teaches us to be pro-life, the Koran and Mohammed teach violence and the subordination of non-Mohammedans. The history of their religion attests to this fact.

Is this a straw man? I do not think any has proposed that we not examine the qualification of any refugees or immigrants. We already have some terrorist watch lists in place and it is not the only information we obtain on people coming into the country.

Have I missed something? Has a poster here actually suggested that we not check those coming in at all? The topic here is Trumps call to ban Muslims from entering the country, not that we do not check them at all, or that we allow some Muslims, or all Muslims.

It really seems the above two posts are both straw man.

Yes, and I am a Papist. Both are equally inaccurate for the same reason. Currently, such a term is suspect. I would say, applying the Golden Rule, if you would not object to a Muslim calling you a Papist, then it would be morally acceptable. I prefer to use terms that people want to be called themselves, as that is part of basic human dignity and respect.

Terms do change and the Catholic Encyclopedia was written 100 years ago by a publishing company, not the Church. I would bet you won’t find the term in the Catechism or any Vatican II document or any papal document since them.

Just like those who don’t mind illegal aliens killings Americans, they are somewhat accessories to the murders they commit.

It’s the same thing, the Muslims can’t be fully vetted. That is what Trump has said, until they can be fully checked, there should be a moratorium on Muslims until we know what’s going on.

Of course, those peddling hate against Trump again, don’t know what he said.

No the Islamic terrorists and fellow sympathizers from outside and inside the U.S. must be prevented from entering our country and moving around at will to carry out their beliefs.
Trump is correct and some people cannot stand to hear their pet mindsets from being exposed as stupid and dangerous. “Politically correct” is done; yesterday’s stupidity.

Good post, and I fully agree.

LOL the complete cynic: I love it! The opposite, complete optimist, was voiced by a comic (I don’t remember whom) who said that when he saw a glass of water, he wasn’t concerned about whether it was half full or half empty but just drank what was in the glass.
