The classic “but Clinton” defense. 🤷
I would not call it a defense …

Clinton deleted emails that were under court order … and destroyed cell phones with hammers - but … After she was Secretary of State - and as a Candidate - in the 2016 Campaign - the Democrats paid foreign nationals for information on Trump - they - the Dems - solicited the information - initiated it and sought it out - obtained information and then leaked it - **all to influence the election **

Trump Jr released his emails, agreed to a meeting that was offered to him and was supposedly offered to give him information on Hillary - … Yet Trump Jr obtained no information - he did not solicit the information nor pay for information.

That is not a defense - its a contrast of two Camps - both committing / doing similar actions but not exactly the same actions or motivations and with different out comes …

One [the Dems] obtained and used foreign information to influence the 2016 presidential election

The other [the Reps/Trump Campaign] neither obtained nor used foreign information in the 2016 presidential election

Haven’t you heard that ethics is no longer a consideration in government (and not starting with the Trump administration), nor is ethical behavior a major concern in our society and culture? Get real. However, on a religious forum such as CAF, I would think it should be of at least of some interest, if not concern. The oft-repeated excuse that Obama did something similar or Hillary is unethical so it is fine for Trump and his son to engage in whatever behaviors they want so long as they are not criminal behaviors is not really a teaching of the Church now, is it, or of most religions? So what is the point of your religious beliefs if you don’t put them into practice when evaluating (not judging) your own or someone else’s behavior?
Well we are talking about US Politics right? I will take Trumps immoral stupidity over Hilary’s abortion death camps any day of the week!

The Clinton’s have set the precedent as far as illegal and corrupt behavior.Yes,they are the barometer by which to judge all transgressions, perceived or otherwise. No one can dispute that.
But they are NOT the barometer on a thread about Donald Trump Jr. One might make a case that Donald Trump is the barometer, particularly if he is implicated in his son’s meeting with an individual from an adversarial foreign government for the purpose of obtaining the “goods” on a presidential candidate who was running against his father. There are so many things wrong with this, ethically and perhaps legally, that it should be obvious to all why this is hurtful to our country. For example, why are Trump’s inexperienced, non-political son and son-in-law having this meeting; what goods on Hillary might he have obtained (he says none, but how can we be sure, since he has already lied about the meeting?); what does such a meeting tell us about the interference of a foreign government on the U.S. election process, and a presidential election no less? These are some of the issues we should be–and have been–critically discussing, regardless of partisan affiliation, NOT Obama’s shenanigans or Hillary’s. We have separate threads for those people.

Oh but lest you forgot, this whole Russian issue has evolved actual collusion to now being called the " intent to collude" in other words a Nothingburger but the left will continue to hammer away with this nonsense.Yes,all the while blowing off actual collusion not only by but our most recent occupier if thevWH.So pathetic and predictable:rolleyes:

I know you know the meaning of the word precedent.Which is why the Clinton’s are relevant to this thread

32,000 emails erased by HC using bleach bit,yet whe DJ Jr is forthcoming by releasing what a handful of emails and Horrors! What a scandal, impeach Trump already, this is just unpardonable and beyond the pale, don’t you know?
I do have to admit, scandal aside, I’m impressed with Trump Jr.'s forthcomingness. He acknowledged the meeting (after Manafort and Kushner reported it 13 months after the fact and questions about contacts between the Trump campaign and Russia had been swirling for over a year), reported that it was about adoption (then later acknowledged it was an attempt to collude with Russia against Clinton when media organizations started reporting that it wasn’t just about adoption), then published the emails (in an attempt to sway public opinion after the New York Times notified him that they had the emails and would be publishing a report on them). I wish everyone in government was as transparent as Trump Jr.

Yes,it is a matter of degrees,isn’t it?

Hillary and Obama can do no wrong! Hypocrisy at its finest!
The hypocrisy is the Trump faithful would be all over Obama or Clinton and their families if all this in 2017 dealt with the Clintons or Obamas.

I agree it was smart of DTJ… It took the apple right out of MYT hand and replaced it with another nothingburger… No law was broken. He did not solicit. Case closed… you will see!

👍 thanks for presenting both sides. how can anyone ignore this?! it is so blatant.

We ought to be far more concerned about whether we’re acting out a “Putin script” right now, with the left acting as “useful idiots” in the play. Look at the situation. The head of the DOJ was more or less pushed out of commission by a trick question asked by a super-leftist. So now the DOJ is headless. Not more than 1/3 of Trump’s appointees have been approved by Congress because of Dem intransigence. The named FBI director, I am sure, will not be approved for months in order to leave it in its current disarray. So, the federal machinery for investigation and law enforcement is lying in pieces, with reassembly being resisted with everything the Dems can muster.

“Leaks”, real or fake, purporting to be from “insiders” of one unidentified sort or another, and 100% of them condemning this administration, come out in the media one day short of daily.

If Putin didn’t think to weave that web, he should have.

Did you miss post #200?

How, exactly, is the Trump administration helping Russia?
Attempting to loosen sanctions at a time when they’re hampering the flow of Russian capital into America and hurting Russian oil exploration. Also appointing a Russian Order of Friendship recipient oil CEO to be Secretary of State at time when major US-Russian oil deals are happening.

While I honestly can’t see anything wrong with what we know so far regarding DT junior’s actions and I do assume a lot of shenanigans (shall we say) with the Clinton camp, and of course Jeanne makes some very fair points herself, I think you are correct in advising that we should try to concentrate more with respect to the title of the thread which is regarding DT junior’s meetings and emails.

If DTJ knows someone who says they know someone who knows someone else who has evidence that Hillary Clinton was involved in illegal activities, why would it be unethical to meet with them to see what they have to say?

I trust you are an ethical guy but I just don’t see the problem.

I agree it was smart of DTJ… It took the apple right out of MYT hand and replaced it with another nothingburger… No law was broken. He did not solicit. Case closed… you will see!
I hope no crime has been committed by DTJ and this whole incident blows over. It doesn’t look so good now but new info comes out every day, not all of it “fake news.” Still, the ethics involved is dubious, but I already said my piece on this issue in another post. I have no desire for Donald Trump Jr. to be prosecuted for legal wrongdoing, let alone Trump himself. Our country cannot afford it.

Wow … I am just amazed … The Obama administration sent $1.7 billion dollars to Iran -$400 million in CASH with the balance made in two wire transfers …

That CASH to the sponsors or terrorism and stated enemy of America did not generate the same angst as a meeting that failed to live up to its billing - I am truly amazed 🤷
