And yet, Catholics overwhelmingly keep electing Democrats. This year, that tendency will be especially important.
That would be Hispanic Catholics

White Catholics, by contrast, swung strongly in the Republican direction relative to 2008. Nearly six-in-ten white Catholics (59%) voted for Romney, up from 52% who voted for McCain in 2008. Three-quarters of Hispanic Catholics voted for Obama, and Catholics as a whole were evenly divided in 2012 (50% voted for Obama, while 48% backed Romney).

I don’t tend to subdivide my religious fellows, but maybe it’s important to do that in the political arena. I simply remain heartened that Catholics will help the rest of the majority deliver a resounding NOPE to a potential “President Trump.”

👍

I cannot, under any circumstances, vote for Trump. He is a fear monger. I see it in family members who support him. He has ginned-up fears that they didn’t use to have. There’s a quote from George Orwell, I think it’s in “The Road to Wigan Pier,” where a coal miner says, “We didn’t know we were poor until someone told us.” Well, Americans from sea to shining sea weren’t fearful until Trump told them to be. A Trump presidency would be as bad, if not worse, than Obama’s was. There;’

Maybe I’ll write in Kasich. Or myself.

I am now announcing my candidacy for President of the United States of America. In all truthfulness, in all honesty, I believe that I would do a better job than either Clinton or Trump. And I’m not joking.
Maybe we should fast on election day asking God to forgive us for being a nation getting these two to be the party candidates. They are a reflection of us.😊 They are our fault. We put them there.

I certainly feel your plight. Trump’s campaign must sting as a painful snub to orthodox Catholics everywhere.

Let us pray for a 3rd possibility of some kind. Who knows?

I personally believe that a viable and principled 3rd party candidate would be a wonderful thing this year. Even if such a party could not win in November, it would give hope to those of us who respect genuine conservative principals.

I don’t mean to mislead you - I am a Hillary supporter. But I am heartbroken that the Republican Party has shattered so painfully. Our nation needs a vibrant conservative voice. It’s been ages since we’ve actually had one.

Donald Trump is many many things, but conservative and Republican are two things he is not.

According to the Washington Post, a federal judge, Gonzalo Curiel, has ordered that Trump University documents be released in response to a request from the Washington Post. Among the documents released is a “playbook” that advised sales personnel from Trump University how to market high-priced courses on getting rich from real-estate.

Trump said Friday that Curiel “happens to be, we believe, Mexican” and called the judge a “hater of Donald Trump” who had “railroaded” him in the case. “I think Judge Curiel should be ashamed of himself. I think it’s a disgrace that he is doing this.”

I wonder why Trump wants to hide the “playbook” for his Trump University sales personnel?

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain! He is Trump, the Great and Powerful!

Ha! But I can build a coffee table. I’m pretty sure neither The Donald nor Clinton can do that.

We believe Curiel is a known and admitted Communist…I mean, a known and practicing homosexual…no, that’s not it…Mexican? Mexican! J’acusse…!

I heard the Libertarian Party will be on the ballots in all 50 states but they need to poll 15% to make the debate stage. I don’t know how Catholics would take to them though. They’re for smaller govt which I know many on here are for. But they’re also pro choice and pro gay marriage. So probably not an option for the CAF faithful.

Hey SY - It would really be lovely if the Libertarian Party could get its ducks in a row and unearth a powerful, meaningful candidate. I doubt that will happen this year, but a girl can dream! I hope you are well, friend! 🙂

Remember how Bob Dole used to talk about himself in the 3rd person?..YIKES!!! 😃

That is true, but I do believe that now that the whole country is actually watching and hearing him. His train will derail.
Too many people right now seem to be thinking when you win the 2016 Republican primary as Trump did in a field that remained crowded for quite sometime, and in many states winning with less than 40%, and you appeal for the most part to angry white men along with conservative white women and tweet out insults, that somehow that equates to a general election in Presidential yrs.

(In full disclosure, I’m a white man but I’m not as angry. Or certainly not so angry that I will vote for Trump. I’m not voting for him)

But the result of Trump’s support isn’t that he’s angry, but he was the only one in the Republican field that spoke to the economic issues that face a lot of these Republican voters. People that feel they have did things right and are behind economically.

Now, I don’t like his solutions (build a wall, anti-immigrant stance), but let’s not be fooled - that (and the fact that he was the ONLY Republican candidate for President who didn’t say that GW Bush did everything right and actually criticized him (the horror!)) is why he is in the nominee.

The problem is that, even though there are as many disenchanted people on the Democratic side (mostly Sanders supporters), Trump’s ridiculous mouth will keep those people from joining his side (mostly). His best hope is to lock in on a particular state or two (OH and PA) and flip them while trying to keep the traditional social conservative Republican on his side. And, as we can see, the social conservative is more than willing to misinterpret, ignore and convince themselves that Trump is their man.

Fret not, friend. Trump will never be POTUS. As Rush Limbaugh says 😉 “Do not doubt me!” Sweet dreams - I am off to bed!

At least Mitt Romney is standing his ground and not rallying to Trump’s side and even though I’m not a Republican or a conservative, I kind of admire Romney for that. Trump, of course, has responded as we might expect in his usual childish way:
Asked by the Journal about Romney, Trump stayed true to form, saying: “Once a choker, always a choker. I’ve got a store worth more than he is.”

My children had a book called “Duck for President”. The duck wins the election, and resigns after realizing he didn’t like being president after all.

But don’t you think too his rhetoric on immigrants and Muslims and insults has played a part as well in his support? His supporters seem to love it when for instance he says Goofy Elizabeth Warren and refers to her as Pocahontas.
