And the end of his letter states:

If there was that much of a concern over his comments being applied to other situations, why would he have approved making them public?

And - is it going to damage the OP’s soul to attend ONE SSPX Mass? He’s not saying he’s planning on doing that forever and exclusively - that’s why I don’t get that this is any big deal.

Uh, no, the original response did not say that. Msgr. Perl’s clarification did that. He wanted people to know that the original response which was blasted far and wide was sent to a specific person in a specific circumstance. He had to put out the clarification because people were saying that the orgininal response applied to everyone.

The validity is what I am asking about. I can do without the sarcasm since this is important to me. I want to send a message to the diocese, and maybe Rome, that I want more TLMs offered. By supporting the Novus Ordo, everyone believes everything is fine and no one wants the TLM.

Why would you attend a Mass in Vietnamese if you have no intention of attending it again?
First, you’re not really showing support. The goal is to fufill your Sunday obligation. Would you go to another parish to fulfill you Sunday obligation if you were in a foreign place and new you would never be there again? Of course (or at least I’m guessing).

Secondly, yes, I would attend a Mass in Vietnamese if it meant me fufilling my Sunday obligation wherever I could.

Here’s a question that might help. If you only had the choice between a Greek Orthodox Mass and an OF which would you pick?

As a Catholic, I would rather attend a Mass that is actually authorized by the Catholic Church.

I’m a Catholic and the Catholic Church authorized the TLM and the NO. If I can’t go to one, I’ll go to the other.

You talk about not wanting to support the Novus Ordo and to be honest this baffles me. Who are you supporting by going to the SSPX mass? You are not supporting the Church I’m a part of.

** ah, but I see others have already spoken out about this **

If you want to avoid the new Mass but are troubled by going to a SSPX Mass, here are two local alternatives:

Sts. Peter and Paul in Naperville has a traditional Latin Mass at 5:30 pm this Sunday, and most Sundays (but not Easter next week).
36 N. Ellsworth, Naperville, IL 60540, Phone: (630) 355-1081

St. George Byzantine Catholic Church in Aurora has a Divine Liturgy Sundays at 10 am.
720 Rural Street, Aurora, IL 60505, Phone: (630) 851-4002

(The Divine Liturgy is the Eastern equivalent of the Mass. The parish of St. George is in full communion with the Pope and attendance at their Liturgy satisfies your Sunday obligation).

We’re all part of the same church, but different people have different preferences. I have an affinity for the Latin Mass and will choose it every time over the NO. In my opinion, they never should have dropped the TLM in the first place. I feel more Catholic now than I ever felt in my entire life. I am not worshipping a Mass; I am worshipping God in THE MASS.

Do those Catholics who refuse to attend Latin Mass baffle you?

My wife bought us and my daughter tickets to a kids’ concert at the Harris Theatre at Millennium Park for 12:30pm, the same time I attend the TLM at Holy Angels in Aurora, IL.

I investigated times around Chicago and Our Lady Immaculate in Oak Park offers a 10am Mass. That’s my best bet.

I have gone to every Latin Mass in Aurora since it was offered and I refuse to miss a Sunday. Unfortunately, I have been spoiled and I refuse to attend a Novus Ordo. I don’t want to return to the same rut I was in. The Latin Mass breathed new life into my faith.

I know people here frown on SSPX but I am making a big mistake if I go to just one Mass?
This is the same old stuff starting off a new thread. Some guy who is a new member, probably a fake ID, who claims he can’t go to a Novus Order mass, and feels committed to attend a SSPX service cause there is no other.

I wonder if I went thru all the SSPX threads they would start off with the same thing. People who don’t want to go to a legitimate Mass, a legitimate rite of the Catholic Church, looking for an opportunity to promote SSPX

What do you want us to do? Go with you? You are pushing an SSPX agenda, and you would love for one of us to agree/attend with you.

Who are you really? What is your real ID? Why do we have to put up with this Agenda pushing by the SSPX? Please get off the soapbox. You have been pinned out. Don’t go to a schizmatic sect.

Just go to Mass and fulfill your Sunday obligation, receive Jesus, and stop making such a fuss over it. SSPX is a vaid Mass in most cases.

“Refusing to miss a Sunday” – I’m sorry, but you have no option to miss a Sunday. Refusing to attend the Novus Ordo Mass, if it keeps you from fulfilling your Sunday obligation, is a very serious issue you need to get over. It is a valid Mass, whether you like it or not.

I’m not sure what you are looking for here, a pat on the back for going to Mass? 🤷

This is a schismatic sect. The priest was illicitly ordained.
Who knows what education the priest has. Maybe he doesn’t have the right intention, and the Eucharist is not valid. Just go to the Novus Ordo.

“Same old stuff”? It is odd to see someone who has been on Catholic Answers forums for all of five days striking a world-weary pose and commenting on the suspiciousness of new members. The Duke has been a member longer than you have been.

I’ve had the plessure of assisting at Mass offered by the regular celebrant of the Mass in the Chicago area chapel of the SSPX. The priest is a very devout priest, loves to sing a Sung Mass. Bishop Tissier de Mallerais visited my chapel this past Sunday. Certainly the false witnesses spread against priests like the bishop and other clergy as mentioned in his sermon are a cross that they take up and don’t run away from. Be assured, they have the faith. The faith will be expressed there. It is what matters. I attend Mass, a Mass that beautifully expresses the faith. Do I wish I can attend Mass at the local parish here (3 Catholic parishes, including a Cathedral where I live)? Absolutely. But until the orthodox, Catholic faith returns to those parishes, we cannot comprimise.

Why would you attend a mass in latin, if you don’t understand it. period

This sounds like promoting a schismatic sect like SSPX. Read the Moderator’s post on this so we don’t have to be subjected to it, please

I am shocked, shocked, absolutely shocked that someone would resort to this type of behavior just to promote SSPX. Shocked!
