Don't leave now!

I have only been on CAF a very short time, but in that time I have had conversations with some that seem decidedly left. Sometimes they heated up a bit, but I enjoyed them all in all and hope I learned something (possibly them , too 😊).

I have also seen many that are decidedly right as well as I am probably considered. Also enjoyed reading and responding to their threads.

It feels to me like a good mix and reflective of Catholicism as a whole. Just my opinion and my personal experience on the forum.

Thanks

Many times, my account here has been suspended, because some people dislike what I have to say.
But this is supposed to be a forum. An exchange of ideas and an open discussion of the many issues that affect us, whether it be physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual.
I do not want to see any Catholic leave the church. And I would hope that most here would continue to be active in participating in the discussion.
We all are God’s children. Bless the diversity of people who make up the Catholic Church! 🙏🙏🙏

I have to agree. Many things I’ve said, I will admit, were a bit rude to the Holy Father. But many times, I’ve been suspended or flagged just for espousing views contrary to that of certain progressive clergy.

It’s odd reading part of the OP. I initially came to this forum last year to get a conservative viewpoint during my hiatus from class. (My school is conservative, but most of my friends and aquaintances are not.) I honestly don’t understand how the forum as a whole can be seen as liberal in any way. Are there liberal posters? Sure, but the majority of posters seem quite conservative from where I’m sitting.

As to leaving, I actually remembered the other day that I had an account here years ago, and the last post I made on that account said I was leaving CAF and the Catholic Church for Eastern Orthodoxy. I can’t remember the password I had used and don’t have access to any email I would have used back then, so that account can stay dead, a relic of a misguided past.

And, yes, it is better to stay and wrestle than to leave and have to clean up the mess later.

There are a few posters, and I shan’t name names. I’d say a majority of the posters here are moderate, but saying something noticeably conservative might get one mega-flagged and eventually suspended. I once got flagged for a “can of worms” joke though. Weird.

This is true, but the views of many of these liberals are so extreme that until just a few years ago they used to be called “the lunatic fringe”. Now, they are the liberal mainstream. (the democratic party debate is starting soon)

I don’t think this is liberal. I would regard a forum that promotes dissent from Church doctrine and where members actively dissent as liberal.

Our Holy Father is regularly criticised as liberal here. I see no issue with the Holy Father. I think he’s just as Orthodox as his predecessor. But many here don’t think so.

But on the other end of the spectrum, we have people who posit the idea that the mark of a real Catholic is to harbor suspicion of the pope. It’s astonishing.

I think a lot has to do with how you express your opinions. I happen to be what people would call far-right/nationalist politically, and can back up my positions with thousands of pages of reading/reflection/research. But, I try not to hammer anyone in discussion as though my way of viewing the world is the only right way. I’m always open to discussion if someone has something interesting to say, and I hope to offer the same to anyone who cares to hear it in good faith.

It’s the interwebz. Anyone can say anything. They might be truthful, or they might be (no, not giants) trolls.

In any event, be at peace! They are not a finished product.

Things are getting tough here on CAF for people who are not progressive enough.
I can’t say I particularly agree with this. Most long-term posters here are moderate, and most of their beliefs are very much in line with Catholic doctrine. Really expressing views outside of this does tend to get people suspended.

Sometimes I think it a surprise to some posters that a respectful discussion of the discipline of celibacy is appropriate. Allowing more opportunities for married men to be ordained as priests is often seen as a more liberal or progressive view. I certainly don’t see it that way. There are also some very conservative priests that are very much open to more opportunities to ordain married men as priests.

I got it for answering someone’s why question. As in “why” a protestant thinks or believes something.

I don’t get it either.
