I like my leather shoes.

I like my leather belts.

I like my leather coat.

I love my cheeseburgers, pork ribs, ham, bacon, steak, fried chicken, baked chicken, grilled chicken, all forms of sausage, fish and all seafoods, and any form of meat that I can get my hands on.

If this offends you, why?

Are you pro-abortion or anti-abortion?

Why is a cow worth more than a child?

The story of the “son/sun” dying on the “cross” (part of a constellation) is WAY older than the bible, like Epic of Gilgamesh old… speaking of the flood!
Plus, Easter actually celebrates the rebirth of the sun after the winter!
Hooray for pagan holidays that the masses wouldn’t do without.
That’s why easter was added to Christianity, to placate the masses.

Anyways, contradicting the bible is fun, but not an effective method of fighting.
Instead, take power away from the bible before you even give it credence.
For example, I was ambushed by a couple of mormons one day on a walk.
They kept rambling about the love of jesus christ, the lord almighty… blah blah blah.

Using Socratic logic, I asked “Who built your church?”
“Who taught you about god?”
“What do you know of that god actually built?”
The point that I made was that it was the greatest heresy to learn about god from other humans.
According to them, god made the earth, not the church, and not the bible, and so it would be best to learn about god from the earth itself.

I brought up another good point on another forum:
“Where was god when the tsunamis hit?”
“Where was god when … (anything) happened?”
The answer was, of course, there, god doesn’t care about you, or your family, or your love for him.
God just is, and get on with it.

The bigger problem is that most people are too afraid and too weak to even question.
Religion is too big and too powerful to fight by saying “no, you’re wrong”.
It will have to be fought in degrees of victory.
We’ve already seen the start, where power is being taken from the church.
It still has WAY too much, because WAY too many people go, but at least there is supposedly a separation of church and state.

  1. Why are you an Atheist?
  2. You are fighting religion why?
  3. Isn’t separation of Church and State enough for you?
It not only guarantees your right to be an atheist…it guarantees my right to believe in God.

Liberalism is a belief in personal freedom. I am also a Liberal and believe you have every freedom to choose your own philosophy and argue your points in an open forum. I choose Catholicism becasue it makes more logical sense to me than any other religion or philosophy. Would you like to engage me in debate? 🙂

Prefigurations and corruptions of Divine revelation are indeed present in pagan myths. To a Christian, the presence of these similarities is merely a confirmation of the truth of Christianity. The myths of the pagans forshadowed the ultimate revelation; they were a sort of “reaching out” towards the truth, corrupted by human additions and misinterpretations.

I think that there’s a lot of Catholic Christians and Christians in general that know that there a a number of things used in Christianity that seems to have roots in ancient pagan cultures. The idea of Easter stemming from paganism is nothing new to us. My only concern of that would be if we were celebrating easter in the same manner as those pagans. The wedding ring is pagan symbol if I can recall correctly. I see such things as an obvious sign that God can and does operate through the diverse cultures throughout the world. I haven’t studied this much, but it would seem obvious that the Greeks & Romans had influence on Jews (to a degree) and obviously the JEWS had and still have a large influence on the worlds cultures. In my opinion there would be some ties at the very root because of this. So, a pagan culture that has distant contact and influence from the Ancient Jews would have some sort of distorted prophecy that would be fulfilled by Christ’s coming. Even the most of the ancient philosophers outside of Judaism knew they were nothing and knew there was somebody far greater, a “God” that will come. Why wouldn’t God use the local culture of peoples in the worship, learning and understanding even with ancient pagan symbology? It only makes sense. I have this disturbing picture of calvanists or mormons trying to evangelize a people of the Maronite Rite and telling them they shouldn’t be using the incense of their worship because God doesn’t need that. Rather, you must rid your place of worship of all that is symbolic, reverant, honoring and to be candid, Apocolyptic of the heavenly worship of God and place a few bouquets of flowers and a wooden Cross without our Lord’s presence upon it.

No offence to my protestant brothers and sisters, but I thought I’d use this to show the contrast and make a point.

or you can skip my rant in ignorance and just read Dauphin’s reply! 😉

Proud Atheist but I don’t mind religion as long as your not racist and homophobic.,👍
~Please don’t wear fur,leather ect.😦
I am not racist, but I hate stupid, regardless of the skin color!!😃 (take that ANY way you want, FreedomLiberal:cool: )

As far as homophobic - to strongly disagree with a chosen perverted lifestyle does not mean I am afraid of it. I dislike it and will teach my children (and have taught them) that the homosexual lifestyle is sinful (note I said LIFESTYLE, not that someone chooses SSA or that a person suffering with SSA is bad in some way. They are not.).😉

I love fur! Someday I want a long, luxurious fur coat. They look sooo awesome! I also LOVE my fur lined earmuffs and my furlined gloves. As far as leather, my sons and my DH all have leather coats. I have a leather winter jacket. We eat meat every day - we have half a cow in our freezer - what better way to feed 3 “starving” teenagers?!?👍

Sooo…what’s your issue again?🤷

If the debate is about Catholicism, I would strongly recommend you learn something about it first. No use debating on a subject you know nothing about!

“If ignorance is bliss, it is folly to be wise”😃

“If there were no God, there would be no atheists.” C.K. Chesterton

 … maybe the OP can tell us something we don’t already know or have proven as erroneous speculation and half-truths.

“The aim of argument is differing in order to agree. The failure of argument is when you agree to differ”

also Chesterton.

We should start a thread on Chesterton - then we would really learn a lot.

Another one I like is something like this, “One thing historians managed to do which even God can’t, is to change the past” or something like that!!🙂

Hello,

hmmm I also will reply to the “why does God let bad things happen” question.

A man/woman has been given the right to choose or refuse. Our Creator already knows more, is Wiser than all, is more Merciful and More Gracious than all, is the All Hearer-All Knower of all things.

He already knows what is or what has or what will or what will not happen. He knows and we do not know. He is in control of all things and you cannot challenge Him.

Man has been given the gift of messengers from the beginning. It has been man that has been messing up from the beginning. One cannot blame God for the mess-ups of man…just like you would not kill someone when someone else killed. Common sense. So why blame what man does wrong, on God? He has given man guidance and man has refused His guidance. Man has no one to blame but himself.

In Islam it is taught, one cannot bear the burden of another. So blaming one’s own misguidance on another is also out of the question. God has given man the ability to think. It is mankind that will stand in front of their Creator and will be accounted for ~ for every atom of good or bad one has done in this life it will be shown.

So, to blame God for what man has done to himself or not done enough of, is contrary to what has originated from the beginning. ***It only takes common sense to understand something so worth understanding. *** One needs to sit back and breathe and reflect and start its quest for truth. It is out there but to blame your ignorance on God is one’s own downfall and disgrace.

Another thing:

If atheism is true, and there is no God or “intelligent design,” just the random forces of evolution, then how can you call anything bad or good? All the wars, plaques, natural disasters, and other calamities throughout history are nothing more than the random forces of evolution working, and there is nothing “bad” or “good” about them.

Notice how OP has not posted lately?

Just throws out some garbage and then (probably) laughs at how we all take the bait…

reminds me of the Thread Watch What you Say about the Church … wherein is printed 2 Peter 2… (most of it)…

Very interesting passage… about those who vex the just…

It was probably past his bedtime when he started the “offensive” thread. Today he should be in school.

Each highlight is an instance where you chose not to capitalize a proper name. Interesting; this could be an attempt to offend or not, but no one is offended by either juvenile attempts to offend
or ignorance of good grammar.

This sounds like something I would have written in my heathen years  The problem is, when you’re open minded enough to study both sides of the issue, this doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.

~Proud Atheist but I don’t mind religion as long as your not racist and homophobic.,

This fascinates me. If God is not real, then there is no such thing as objective morality. So why would an atheist oppose racism, homophobia, animal cruelty, or anything else? Without an Author of a moral code, then there is no good or evil, just a bunch of stuff that happens — racism would be just as good as racial equality, homophobia would be just as good as gay rights, animal cruelty would be just as good as vegetarianism.

To be consistent, an atheist should say, “Do whatever you want – be racist, be homophobic, abuse animals, because nothing matters.”

Let’s remember our charity ladies and gentlemen. Merely post your viewpoint and stop with the ad hominem attacks on one another.

God bless-

Rachel

Nothing like a LITTLE bit of knowledge inflating heads. Keep learning liberal, you’ll be shocked at what you find. For every similarity, there is a deeper difference. Which is the original and which is the knock off?

, animal cruelty would be just as good as vegetarianism.

."
eating animals is superior to vegetarianism…

I have studied nutrition for years… read many studies… read statistics on longevity/super-centenarianism

haven’t found ONE strict vegetarian who lived beyond the age of 65…
Jesus ate meat (Passover)…
