Doomsday clock now at two min to midnight

Since now they are including climate science, they must have watched Al Gore’s first movie. It’s clear they haven’t seen his second, or any of the rebuttals to the first.

This is done by 10 guys at one non-technical academic journal. It’s more a measure of liberal hysteria than facts.
“It’s clear from its movements over the past seven decades that the Doomsday Clock is more about politics than any sort of scientific measure of the risk of global nuclear war. After all, it has routinely counted down after a Republican wins the White House, and ticked up when Democrats reclaim the presidency.”

I would say the clock gets closer to doomsday every time some rogue dictatorship like NoKo or Iran gets nuclear weapons.

“The Bulletin also made specific reference to the breakdown in negotiations between the US and both Russia and Iran. It said that arms control talks have failed in both countries, and suggested the world was dangerously close to falling into a nuclear arms race.

“But the scientists said there was the possibility of reversing the trend of increasing danger. Moving closer to midnight was a recognition of the danger but also a plea to move it back again – something that could be done by getting back to arms control and responding to the threat of climate change.

“Scientists said that the change wasn’t simply a recognition of the threat of climate change or nuclear war – but also that the media, science and even truth were being undermined, hampering their ability to respond to the problems.”

I think that that right now the most dangerous factor in all of this is the rise of “alternative facts” - which promotes the suggestion that in our public discourse it is not necessary to strive to be truthful.

The Shadow Government that rules this world isn’t going to allow a total nuclear Holocaust. Perhaps selective nuclear deployment. However, anything approaching Terminator Judgement Day would be most unprofitable and bad for business.

Er, if it’s 2 seconds to midnight, the obvious question is how fast is the clock running? Has any one checked it’s accuracy? Maybe it’s speed is temperature dependant. Has anyone replaced the batteries recently?

While “selective nuclear deployment’ is not “Terminator Judgement Day,” it is not a good thing even in isolation, but real problem with it is that one thing leads to another.

The issue with “alternative facts” is an increase in the possibility national intentions might be misunderstood and result in the initiation of hostilities - whereas there is no mistaking the hostility of a “selective nuclear deployment.”

You’re unclear on the concept.:hugs:

The original creators were scientists at Los Alamos, I commend them for their creation. But they are long gone and their replacements don’t know how it works, can’t change the battery.

They keep nudging the clock hands trying to remain relevant.

Er, if it’s 2 seconds to midnight,
. . . minutes . . .

D
Whew! That’s like forever. I can hold my breath for 2 minutes but these funny critters start appearing and dancing around.

Since the scientists made their prediction several hours ago, I think we can safely conclude that they are mistaken.
