Personally, I prefer Vulgate-based translations, as they still reflect some of the humanness and warmth of the irascible Saint Jerome. Therefore, I must also prefer the manuscripts they were based on.
I use the Book of Tobit as an example. Newer non-Vulgate revisions that are based on other manuscripts have the first three chapters written in the first person, with following chapters in the third person. An odd inconsistency IMO.
