downloading music and Burning CDs

Well let’s say Australia made it legal to pickpocket US citizens. Could we do that when they are tourists in our country? When we are tourists in their country? I’m not sure, but I think in both cases, we couldn’t.
I think same goes for music. If Canada makes it legal to download music, then Canadians can probably download Canadian music. But surely Canada can’t give its citizens the right to breach the copyright of US citizens.

By the way, it’s not just the industry that thinks it should be illegal, its many bands as well. Think about it, if you had a band, would you want people downloading music that had taken you days to write and produce, and had taken you a ton of inspiration? Wouldn’t you want them to pay for it by buying your CD’s instead?

I don’t download. I buy my own cd’s. What I object to is anyone telling me I can’t make a copy of the disk I bought so that I can use it in another room in the house without having to keep moving my original about. The industry does not suffer loss of income from what I do because I certainly would not be buying two originals of the same disc.

With regard to Canada and Holland I don’t have a copy of the laws but my understanding is that it is legal to download any music from the internet. This is also what’s being debated in the French parliament.

As for the music artists being paid, I have no objections to that, although you will notice its mainly the ones who are already millionaires who do most of the complaining. 800 million people in the world starving and they complain that they should have earned USD 20 mio. last year but they only made USD 15 mio. I have no sympathy for them.
Also I firmly believe music artists are deprived of money mainly because of the greedy people in the industry from the music companies to all the middle me. I wonder what percentage of the retail price of a cd the musician actually gets. Its also the high cost of cd’s that encourages piracy. Let’s say a cd costs USD 12. How many people in the third world countries can pay that. That would be a week’s family income for the poor.
By the way I feel the same about dvd’s and computer software. In all these case the industry rips off the public.
