More than that, pronouncements on whose religion is “real” is a glass house, at best. I doubt very much whether most of today’s Christians would measure up as the real deal in the eye of the ancients. Love em or hat em, the original Christians were a pretty tough lot. Many had lived their lives as slaves, and they walked the walk when it came to their ministries, working in the squalid alleyways of First Century Rome and Antioch, knowing and accepting that many of them would die in horrible ways for their faith.
Sadly. Many still do die, in service of God. Many still do work in squalid alleys ways of the thirs world. Even in the squalid alley ways of the western world. Your point is moot.
I can’t imagine they would be all that impressed with most of today’s movement: the megachurch “prosperity Gospel” preachers getting fat off of donations, the Prada-wearing cardinals and their palatial residences.
Don’t know or care much about the mega churches. But as far as the prada wearing palace living cardinals. Have you seen their private quarters? Hardly getting fat or anyone donations.
The faithful who attend Mass every once in a while and almost never confess or do pennance.
Christianity has never been a religion of perfectionist. Why do you think that those who are, Are so special? i.e saints, etc
Guys who cry “persecution” every time pop culture gives them a razzing?
Because we demand respect for the one true God?
How many of today’s lot would have the stones to give up their possessions to serve the poor and follow their faith to the bitter end in the gladiator’s arena or some crucifixion ground? Do your headcount carefully before proclaiming who is “authentic” to their own traditions.
As i said. Many still do. As for me. Can i help it my forebears have fought long and hard. That i am no longer faced with that choice? You think many of those brave Christians who went to the “gladiators arena” Wouldn’t have said “Thanks cya later,” if their persecutors granted them a reprieve? But anyway. Just because, I am not faced with that decision today. Doesn’t mean, i wouldn’t die to stop it happening to my loved ones or my fellow brothers in Christ.
I think it says something about the power and beauty of the old pagan ways that they survived even in diluted form after many centuries of cultural
Thats just it. Druidism hasn’t survived. Sure there are authentic paganism. In India, Africa etc. Those people although mistaken, have at least the authentic religion. Druidism of today though. Is no more than a ron hubbard type “religion”
(and literal) genocide by those who presumed to “save” our ancestors. Today’s druidism and other pagan faiths are not exact reproductions of the old ways for two reasons
They are not reproductions at all. Calling them reproductions. Would be like destroying the mona lisa. Then having someone paint a red head in a bikini. And calling it a reproduction.

:
the actions of self-righteous missionary invaders
Yes God bless their hearts, And it makes one think. If druidism was so grand. Why did it fall so fast?
because the old ways would not serve us well in these times. We are not Iron-Age Celts. We live in the here and now and we work with our deities as modern people in the best ways we know how.
Yes sex with goats, cannibalism and ritual human sacrifice, wouldn’t go down to well in today’s society. Now would it?

Or the cults of Mithras and Magna Mater. Now there were two pagan Zoroastrian or ancient earth mother religions that rocked the scene back in the day in Rome! 😃
Maybe someone should try to revive Catharism next.

Your glad pagan movements, are happening in a Christian country?
I thought Protestant movements was bad enough, but pagan?
I didn’t say that.

I said I’m glad for the reconstructionists.

If they are recognised as a religion then why shouldn’t they be entitled to the legal benefits?

Ultimately we have the Truth, it is up to us to share that Truth. Catholics got on fine in England without the government suppressing opposing viewpoints in the past. They will do in the future.

Mind you, your quote ‘‘You’re glad pagan movements, are happening in a Christian country?’’ is probably very similar to what was said when Catholicism was decriminalised.

I think anyone who considers themself to be a religious group should be allowed to be recognized as such. The exception is if someone says they are, for example, Catholic, but their church does things like having women priests… then they can be a religious group, but Catholic is misleading because that implies that their church is in communion with the Roman Catholic Churches and the Pope.

Why does a religion have to be focused on belief in god(s)? What about secular humanism? Darwinism? Anything that is an ideology, theology, or belief system that people base their lives around should be classified as religion, IMO. Many atheists even should be classified as members of religious group because they believe so strongly that evolution explains our origins (rather than groups that support creation or God as the cause of our origin). They often believe in multiple universes, life on other planets in our universe, other dimensions, etc.

I don’t know about the UK in this instance, but here it is not necessary that a religion has a particular belief in a supreme being to qualify for official tax recognition. You do have to be an organization which is engaged in the activities of a religion - ie proposing to have answers to those sorts of ultimate questions about ethics, morality, man’s place in the universe “the meaning of life,” etc. If I’m not mistaken, secular humanists organizations have won recognition this way. The key is that you do have to be organized primarily to serve the spiritual, or perhaps philosophical needs of your followers and have some regular activities and a belief system of some sort that you can articulate.

Boy, wolf, you seriously DON’T know me at all! After several years on this forum I’d think by now that you’d know that I HATE any remake of anything ever! If it’s not the original, it stinks, that’s my motto. That goes for movies, TV, cars, music, you name it!
Say the original one or I will kill you slowly and painfully while your family watches.

Just words of warning, like Paul gave the churches. 😃
You can build one all you want. I’m not steppin’ in that thing! I saw the end of that flick. I’m not getting in! LOL 😛
Maybe if you’re lucky it’ll be like the alternate ending they had in mind for the original, and it will randomly start to rain. 😛

I heard they’re working on a new “Dune” film. I’m bummed. It can’t be Lynch level good. Then I heard they’re remaking “Hunter” the tv show into a movie with JOHN TRAVOLTA playing Hunter and Jessica Alba as McCall…the ultimate “give me a break!” of all time!

Nothing is as good as the original except for the remake of “Cape Fear” with DeNiero. He’s the greatest! 😛

^ He speaks the truth, ladies and gentlemen. No remakes for Gurney! Especially considering the fact that there would be an actual remade “Gurney” in the new Dune. Nothing good can come of this. 😃

It may be a sign of the End Times, but I’m agreeing with Gurney on this issue too! ALL of the big screen remakes are just a cheesy attempt to wring some easy revenue out of people without lifting a finger to do any real storytelling. It’s insulting that someone proposes to charge me good money when they haven’t bothered to do any screenwriting or come up with anything fresh or original. The remakes inevitably lack the sincerity of the originals, and they are almost always just a vehicle to show off the latest bit of digital animation and special effects. We might have the basis of a revolution here…the Czar and his family ended up in a shallow forest grave not merely because of privation of the masses. I’m thinking he fed those peasants one too many bad remakes…!

Hey now! Easy dude! Agreeing with me is a sign of the end times? Do you even believe in the end times? :D:confused:😛

The End Times is that moment at the pub when they make you finish your last belt and then turn on the lights and expel you into the cold hard world to find your way home.

Well it feels apocalytic to me…😃

Nothing heavy. I just take heart from the fact that there is something SO debased and evil that it can unite pagans and Christians in common cause against it. Remakes are one such thing…

I’m sure there are other issues that could unite us: a common enemy in “Dancing with the Stars” or a mutual dislike for Paris Hilton. Also we could make fun of Geraldo Rivera’s “Al Capone’s Vault” together or agree with questions like, “Why does England bother to have a monarchy?” We could also agree that Sean Connery was the best Bond or that there is no nutritional value in doughnuts. Other topics for discussion: “which Voltron was best? Lionbots or the space vehicles?”

Other than that, paganism is false, Christianity the one truth faith. Oops! Oh no I dih-ent! :p:cool:

I’ll say it again, the “Dune” remake is blasphemy! LOL :p:mad:
