people who identify themselves as active-not fallen-away or former–Roman Catholics and who advocate and defend such things as you mention as compatible with their Catholic faith.
:hmmm: There is only ONE Catholic faith and people who advocate and defend ‘such things’ aren’t compatible with The Catholic faith. Perhaps that’s why they don’t advocate/defend it that way.

What I’ve seen is people advocating/defending their beliefs on ‘such things’ based upon poor catechisis or rationalization. They will strongly defend ‘their’ positions on the various issues, but they won’t claim it is the Church’s position…they know it isn’t. As they post their reasoning it becomes apparent they were not taught well about what the Church teaches.

They are basically struggling with coming to terms with the Truth. Once they begin debating thier positions here, they find themselves outnumbered and overwhelmed with the same answer being given a gazillion ways no matter how they try to weasel around it. If they stay, they awaken to the Truth and grow in their faith, otherwise they tend to leave to find a more ‘accepting’ board.

The hardest thing to do is when you come face to face with the Truth, you can’t sit pat anymore. One has to to act.

I agree, liberal catholics on here are so clueless they really need to take a hint.
And you still can’t figure out why the liberal Catholics here won’t engage you in discussions?

Hmmm…

For one thing I read on one post and saw the heretical things you said. It seems to me you are confused abou the faith. And no, I’m not preaching to you, just out of charity reminding people of their catholic responsibilities. I admit sometimes I can fly off the handle, kinda like Bobby Knight. I have I what we would call the German temperament.

You’ve proven my point, Bonesey, dear. I don’t get into the debates here anymore because I, as a liberal (booga-booga) Catholic who disagrees with some of the Church’s teachings because guys like you instantly pop up to remind me that I am a heretic and confused abou the faith.

Purely out of charity, of course.

I’m not going to convince you that you’re wrong. I don’t really want to. You wanted to know why you don’t hear liberal voices here? You don’t hear mine anymore because I don’t really see much point in talking to you.

Oh, and for the record I have demonstrated my confusion and heresy (I think) by using birth control and saying that I don’t see why gay people shouldn’t be able to get married in a civil ceremony if they want to.

I also think, although I did not respond to this thread, that the Virgin Mary probably would wear a bathing suit and possibly even go swimming topless if she lived in a culture where toplessness was devoid of the sexual connotations it has for Americans.

You guys run and get the matches. I’ll wait here and

HEY! WHAT’S THAT BEHIND YOU?

(sound of running feet and slamming door)
