I don’t understand the push for women priest.(I’ve been at work since 6:30am,so am still tired and may sound dopey).
Anyhow,in the letters of St.Paul, and i think even St.Peter mention women, like Phoebe and others,wo may have help to spread the word of God and the teachings of Jesus, just as cathectics today teach children about the faith. But no where does it say women were priests in the gospel.even in Ancient Eygpt and other places the priesthood was reserved for men.Even in pagan religions
while they may have had priestesses for say the goddess Diana, their function was NOT the same as say that of a priest of
Zesus or Apollo.
These dominicans are baseing their statement about women
in reference to the women deacons which are mentioned in the early church.Their function was to teach women and children the faith assist in the baptism of women, and to help the poor and sick.As far as we know, they were not ordained later as priests.
many ancient church writtings regarding their duties, etc. have been lost,so we aren’t all that clear on many of the things they did do .This I donot care for at all.Even the priesthood mentioned in the Old Testament(Jewish viewers of the forum know what I’m talking about) came through a man,I believe Aaron, not any woman.
As far as married priests, we do know this existed in the early church as well as celibrate priests.St.Paul I think in his letter to St.Timothy says something about a bishop must be sober, hard working ,the husband of one wife ,etc.
Their call for this does have a biblical basis.Certainly Holy Mother Church does have married deacons, who could be ordained as priests if the shortage becomes that acute, though I doubt that will happend.
As far as selecting who is the pastor, this I disagree strongly with.
Not everyone is called to the priesthood and those who administer the Eucharist must be worthy of such an honor and be legtimately ordained.
I believe this was one of the complaints which started the Polish National Catholic Church, see google or
newadvent.com for more info. They weren’t happy with the pastors they were getting ,few spoke Polish, etc.
Yes,much of what they say is hersey. We need to pray they will be guided back to the right path.
