Yes I would like to take a look at it… This is getting better and better.

I sure hope that all who see the tremendous benifits of this catholic esword resource are passing this info on to all your friends, churches etc. This can be a tremendous tool for all. See what Sister Katrina has to say in a recent post on the esword yahoo group as far as passing this information on via email , catholic internent encouraging them to provide links. see below Sister Katrina words, followed by a synopis with links to the site:
Sister Katrina writes:
From eSword@yahoogroups.com
There are 4,500 members of my parish.** I have distributed 1,732 copies of e-sword (with multiple Bible translations included, many of which I consider inferior translations, especially paraphrases**). I have additionally formed a
group of distributors who have given away another 5,337 copies of e-sword
to other Catholics in our area. This area is approximately 5 square miles in size and is located on Long Island. Additionally, I have provided copies of e-sword to 24 other individuals in other parts of the country. Together, they have distributed in excess of 20k copies of e-sword. These copies are all in compliance with copyright laws. They include as many “Catholic” modules as I have been able to obtain.

Is there a need for more non-Protestant material for e-sword? My experience is a resounding shout of “YES, YES, YES.”

Persons who do not desire to include Catholic Bibles in their e-Sword are free to not download, not include such. Just as Catholics are free to eliminate other Bibles from their copies.

Contrary to popular opinion, we read the Bible and we read it every day. We pray a minimum of twice a day. We go to Church. We study the Bible, in depth and spiritually. We are devout, practicing Christians. We desire to know more, to study more, to be blessed by that study.

To assume that what you call "apparent canonical" is** correct** is to ***ignore the history of the Church.

Use your delete button. Refuse to download. But recognize that, world-wide there are over 20,000 Protestant Denominations. Some have fewer than 50 members, others are huge and exist world-wide. We all attempt to follow Christ, to be Christian. So, let’s do that…

From Mike again:
Be sure to spread the word far and wide and take a look:

a great Catholic software Bible Study Program and best of all its free for download and nothing out there compares to this, its also going to get better.

From: http://www.esnips.com/web/CatholicApolegetics

What we have here at this web site a synopsis:

These are all eSword modules-Bibles, Commentaries, Dictionaries, and Topical all for the eSword base Bible software program… All to help Catholics and those interested in knowing more or understanding what the Catholic Church truly teaches and why. All modules are free as well as the Base esword program for download. The Base progam is a free download at:
http://www.e-sword.net/downloads.html .

e-Sword is a fast and effective way to study the Bible.
e-Sword is feature rich and user friendly with more capabilities than you would expect in a free software package. The fact that e-Sword is free is just one of the blessings and does not speak of the quality of the software. I make my living writing software and I believe I have put forth my best effort in this endeavor. The real work, however, was put in by the godly men and women who devoted countless years creating the texts that have been made available for our benefit. (From the e-sword Web site Rick Myers)

The Program has the ability to accept user created modules hence a substantial number of user Catholic modules including the Early Teachings of the Church in the first few centuries (a must read),** Haydock Commentary, St Thomas works** in the Catena commentary on Gospels by early church fathers, and his Summa Theologica, a number of Catholic Bibles, Catechism 1909 Catholic encyclopedia another must, a Catholic Doctrinal Concordance, and a number of special tools for studying the Bible With Greek and Latin tools for studying the basic Greek Grammer to enhance one’s understanding of definitions etc. This has become a consolidation of free modules for e-Sword base progam, modules scattered across ensips web, and a few other websites on the internet all to make for easier download and finding of Catholic modules and good study tools. A Free Greek English-Hebrew English interlinear Bible which is better than the interlinear for e-Sword is available at http://www.scripture4all.org/

I would like to thank MichaelG for your site on esnips. It is wonderful. Glad you care enough to take your time.
May God bless you with his fullness.

jonathon and the other e-sword experts. I hope this thread doesn’t die. I know we have Yahoo but I sort of think of this area as the catholic e-sword message board.
Any chance of making this a topic in itself instead of in sacred scripture?
just a thought…

Any chance of making this a topic in itself instead of in sacred scripture?.
a) There are two e-Sword related threads on CAF that are more or less “current”;

b) I think a generic Bible Study Software are would be more appropriate than an e-Sword specific one;

a. What is the other one. Maybe I have not looked enough…
I just didn’t think that this thread would last before someone started another thread.
b. Your idea sound better.

Deuterocanonical books are displayed only if the Bible that one uses contains them.

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=189364&highlight=esword

The only versions of the NIV I’ve seen for e-Sword have not contained deuterocanonical material. The copyright holder of the NIV (International Bible Study) has thus far declined to allow it (NIV) to be distributed for e-Sword.

The NASB is available for e-Sword. It costs US$20.00. It does include deuterocanonical books.

The RSVA has been distributed for e-Sword, but I don’t remember where/when that was done. 😦

The Jerusalem Bible was distributed without the consent of the copyright owner.
**The New Jerusalem Bible was distributed without the consent of the copyright owner. **
The first, second, and third editions of the Spanish translation of the Jerusalem Bible were distributed. (Considering the number of transcription errors, I suspect that it was done without the consent of the copyright owner.)
The French version of the Jerusalem Bible is available. However, it excludes deuterocanonical material.
[None of the Jerusalem Bible resource contain the notes that the hard copy contain. 😦 ]

The Clementine Vulgate is available, if you can read Latin.
Jerome’s Vulgate is available, if you can read Latin.
There is another version of the Vulgate, but I’veforgotten which one. 😦

The LXX is available, if you can read Greek.
Brenton’s translation of the LXX is available.(This is in English.)

There are a couple of other Bibles with deuterocanonical material, but I don’t remember which translations they are. 😦

**AFAIK, there are no commentaries that are from the perspective of Catholic Christianity. **

There are some topical files that contain documents important to Catholic Christianity.

All that said, it is fairly easy, but somewhat time consuming to create resources for e-Sword, and distribute them.

The major issue is obtaining permission to distribute the material in e-Sword format.

On a personal level, I’d love to see the following available for e-Sword:
*** The documents from Vatican 1;**
  • The documents from Vatican 2:
  • The Rites;
  • The Rites Volume 2;
  • Catechism of the Catholic Church;
  • Canon Law;
    *** The Catholic Encyclopedia;**

Any one check out forum answers which Johnathon quoted, notice the difference between then and now, and the possibilities. We now have a NJB with permission, the catechism, the catholic Encyclopedia, two catholic commentaries, Haydock, and ST Thomas Catena, and stil hoping for the A Catholic Commentary on Holy Scripture by Father Bernard Orchard, from 1953 still hoping to get permission for that one. Just fired off an email two days ago hoping to get the Narvarre commentary marketed, we’ll see. We will have Vatican I and earlier concils in esword, presumably do not neet permission, and some earlier Liturgical rites could be done relatively easily. Look what a year and half later has done, almost overnight.

I still would love to see A Textual Concordance of Holy Scripture
Arranged by Topic and Giving the Actual Passages
By: Rev. Thomas David Williams TAN - 848 Pp. HB., Impr.

one or two items concerning the absolute importance of prayer time, such as all of the great saints talked about no prayer no salvation, they themselves prayed 4-6 hours a day, certainly we need to be in prayer minimum of 15-30 min a day.
as well as the above which I am still hoping for, Father Hardons Catholic Dictionary which was recently denied. Would like to see the rest of the Church fathers converted to esword.

Last of all we need to put word out to our churches, Bible study coordinators, Religious Educators our parish priests of what is available here at their fingertips. Those who are studying and making use of this need to consider now or down line for getting involved in Catholic Religious Ed. So much bad Catholic Catechesis over the last 20-50 years. I feel very much like the quote from Pete Torreny stated with his Catholic Doctrinal Concordance now on line "
This is dedicated to all the cradle Catholics, like myself, who one day woke up and realized they didn’t know anything about Catholicism. " I was in the same boat and absent from a belief in the one true church that I was brought up (Catholic Church), nor longer Catholic, not even a real Christian, because I had no idea what I believed or didn’t believe about Christ. We all need help in bringing people back to the Catholic faith, and help those who are still Catholic truly learn and know their Catholic faith. Why, How do you know it is true, where does it come from, what is the basis for the belief. Catholic Apologetics, that is what I teach in CCD for 10th grade in my local parish. I want very much to see this ESword program for Catholics Grow in materials available, for more people to learn of this program and grab hold, and share and help others that is my prayer!!!

I was going down the line of the previous esword thread pointed out by Jonathon, and notices a number of people who particpated in that thread from a year and half ago who have seemingly disapeared. Kind of wondering if anyof them have been following along and looking for their possible perspective. Certainly a number of people have been viewing this thread, but not too many comments??? the following is a partial list of those participating in the previous thread but have not seen in this updated esword thread:

We now have a NJB with permission, the catechism,
Are you sure that permission to distribute it has been granted?
Vatican I and earlier councils in esword, presumably do not need permission,
Parts of some of the earlier councils are currently available as e-Sword topical files.
some earlier Liturgical rites could be done relatively easily.
I found several missals, breviaries, and lectionaries on the net that could be converted to e-Sword format. Most of the documents are in PDF format, and need to be OCRd.
Last of all we need to put word out to our churches, Bible study coordinators, Religious Educators our parish priests of what is available here at their fingertips.
So much bad Catholic Catechesis over the last 20-50 years.
Not just Catholic Catechesis.

I’m still around. Good resources all around. I’m still unsure how to use the prayer file, I have it in my esword directory, again, I would like some commentary displayed (catholic liturgical interpretations?)

Didn’t Augustine write commentary on the entire Bible? Or was it Aquinas?

I have not been able to get the prayer file to work either. Maybe I am a little slow:) If you find out let me know.
Thanks

Michael G;:
Jonathon you stated that NJB was for on line gratis?
My current estimate is that 15% of the resources for e-Sword that are available online, are being distributed without the knowledge, consent, or authorization of the copyright holder.

The NJB is merely one of the resources that falls into that category.

Hi guys! I found this website offering New Catholic Dictionary online. The Dictionary is dated 1910. May be we could ask the author to process it for e-sword.

catholic-forum.com/saints/indexncd.htm

I’m really very2x sorry guys. I really like to help but I’m no programmer, so this all the help that I could do…refer you to some websites.

Thanks Piony, I am looking to gain a couple of esword modules here we will see.

I have just uploaded a new module:
Christs Divine Credentials.zip
esword topical module designed to go with the Prophecies of Christ, Scripture draws no other conclucion than Christ’s Divine and human natures in the one person Jesus Christ. St. Augustine said that" the person, who is ignorant of any one of the testments of the Catholic Holy Bible hobbles to Christ on one foot"
esnips.com/web/CatholicApolegetics

looking to have in the near future a module containing most of the major councils down through the centuries minus vatican II since this is suppose to be copyrighted, a module for some of the early ligurgies down to the present.

The Navarre people are not interested at this moment and time in marketing a eswod commentary module.

A few other things in the works I hope. Spread the word to Catholic Churches, Priests, seminarians, seminaries, religious ed directors, Bible study groups. Remind everyone that this is still a work in progress-- it is all free --what a tool to learn and know and defend truth.

by the way in case no one has noticed I do have a layout summary of a Catholic exegesis of scripture under the Catholic Concordance dictionary intro, the early church fathers what they taught from the get go in the topical module section

Great resources here!

I wonder, how can I use these modules on a mac? I have the OS X version of e-Sword which is called MacSword, but it won’t read the modules.

Is there any way to convert them?

Thanks!

Evoken;:
I have the OS X version of e-Sword which is called MacSword,
MacSword is one of the front ends created by The Sword Project. That organization has no relationship to e-Sword.
Is there any way to convert them?
Yes, but neither the Crosswire Bible Society,nor Equipping Ministries approve of that conversion process.

Yes Michael. I’m in fact promoting e-sword and your modules to Catholic Apologetics groups in the Philippines. I also plan to write the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines if it could include E-sword and your modules in their plan to distribute Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) Bibles. Here’s their plan:
