Ok, I think I figured it out. Thanks anyway!

Can you tell me how it works. I downloaded E-sword. I downloaded files from E-snip into my E-sword folder but when I try to open the file in the esword folder I get an error message saying Windows does not recognise this file. Can you tell me step by step how you got it to work?

Holly If you know something I don’t jump in here.

1. since you have downloaded a # files do the dictionaries show up on the bottom middle to left side, do the bibles show up on the top middle side, and does the commentaries and topic notes show up on the top right side???
2. do the new files show up the same way??? from esword.
3. it is my understanding that the new esword version has at least slotted the topic files and possibly commentary files, bible files, and dictionary files into another folder under documents.
4. lets see where the files are located and move all files to one location and tell esword where to find these files.
5. hit the open tab on the top left hand corner and it should give you the default folder in which all topic files such as the early church fathers should be located.

5a. at this point you can open what ever topic file you see here, you can move all topic files to this folder, or you can change the folder where esword should look for topic files.

This brings up a menu which lists all the commentaries and dictionaries and bibles which esword is seeing, and allows to unslect certain resouces that you do not want to see all the time. At the very bottom it tells you which folder it is reading these files from. See where esword is reading from and move all your commentaries bibles, and dictionaries here or change the directory and from where esword reads the files to a different directory and move all those files there

To answer point 1 I downloaded E-sword and then downloaded some bibles.
On the very top line of the screen from left to right are: file, edit, format, bible, commentary, dictionary, tools, options, window, help.
At left side of the screen are all the books in the bible and just to the right are the bibles I downloaded.
At the very righthand side of the screen are: study notes, topic notes.
The early teachings of the church file I downloaded (by saving to the esword folder) does not show anywhere in the screen. If I go to My Computer, My Documents there is an esword folder there where I can see the saved early church teachings file but when I open it I get the error message Windows does not recognise this file.

I checked the program files and found the esword folder. I downloaded 2 different esnips files to that folder but I cannot find them when I start Esword, and when I go to the folder and try to open these files I still get an error message. You have to find where files bibles, commentaries dictionaries and topical files are read from by the esword program…the ones you downloaded from esword. The files you are downloading from esnips must go to the same location that esword is reading from…

alright this may be start, bibles commentarys will not show here. did you see if the esword folder is under programs here??
click on the arrow key they to help you find this folder on the c drive for its location. You should have only two possibliites either the esword under my documents or esword under programs, I believe esword under programs is where it is probably reading from. when you have opened under the file and see where it lists this esword file if it is under programs. If it is under programs copy the early church fathers topic file to the eswod folder under the programs folder on the hard drive.

Now go to options along the very top of the esword program when open and look at the drop down menu—hit the resource tab and it will open a box showing what bibles, commentaries and dictionaries esword sees. At the bottom will show you which folder it is looking at and will show where it is located on hardrive.

all bibles commentaries dictionaries from esword have to be copied to that folder for esword to find them.

I guess I disagree on that idea at present because the Catholic Churches and Eastern Orthodox churches have already answered that question.

a) I was including Restoration Movement Christians in that group. Their version of the history of Christianity is a topic for a different thread.

b) Some of the “folk masses” I’ve seen described/depicted in movies, etc could use (name removed by moderator)ut from the old liturgies.

One minor detail about liturgy.top.
“010 Novus Ordo Roman Rite” should be renamed “10 Novus Ordo Roman Rite” so that the numbers remain sequential.

And one minor question:
Are you going to red letter the liturgies?

FWIW, I’m doing The Book of Common Prayer with red lettering, as an e-Sword resource.

I finally gave up. I cannot do anything with esnips. Why don’t esword and esnips just get together and put everything in esword so we can do one installation/download. That would be much easier for folks like me who are simply pc users without being able to do all the behind the scenes stuff.

The material at esnips is created by users.

The e-Sword developers don’t have anything to do with what is found on esnips. More to the point, there is material for e-Sword on esnips that they would rather not be there, because of copyright issues.

Some e-Sword users are willing to send a CD/DVD of material, if you ask them nicely, and state exactly what you want, and distribution of that material is not a copyright violation.

As far as red lettering I do not plan on doing it regardless, that would be enormous amount of work to do such for each and every ligurgy.

Send me via email your address, and I will send you a disc with the files loaded in esword folder. you would have to copy and paste the folder onto your hardrive and possibly reinstall the esword program using the older version I am using. If you cannot locate or copy and paste the folder under program files folder then this will not help neither.

I have heard that topic files are not located in the esword folder under the program files folder on the hard drive for the latest esword program. Is this true, if it is true what folder does the latest esword read the “*.top” files, I have gathered this from the talk/ complaints about the latest esword version install program causing some problems for different folks on the esword loop.
I presume the bbl, cmt, and dct files are located in the esword folder under the program files folder on the hard drive for the latest esword program…???

Red lettering a liturgy refers to:

• The instructions are given in red.
• The text the priest reads is black.
• The text the congregation reads is either bold, or italics.

As far as red lettering I do not plan on doing it regardless,

I also plan to write the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines if it could include E-sword and your modules in their plan to distribute Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) Bibles. I have just uploaded the following esword topical modules for all who are inerested

e-Sword topic module. This includes all the major councils down thgouth the centuries including the very 1st council ever recorded. I do not have the Vatican II documents included here since they are under copyright. Should anyone have the connections to obtain permission to use in writing as a esword module I can then include them.

I hope to do one on the Herasies down through the centuries, as well as one on the Popes down through the centuries in the not to distance future, one on the saints about 200, hopefully if I get the help I need the New Catholic Dictionary 1909. Of Course I am still working on the OT A Catholic Commentary on Holy Scripture. The NT is already up on line. We shall see.

In case anyone is interested the following two programs are relatively easy to use to create esword modules, though it is strictly a cut and paste operation which is quite tedious/time consuming.

This one will do Bibles, commentaries and dictionaries: though one must plug in any formating such as paragraphs manually

I think that the issue is that Module Utility Program generates its own templates.

I am making a disk for Church to pass out for Bible Study. I know someone else did this but I can not find that e-mail but anyway. I put E-Sword on a CD-R alomg with some bibles and commentaries. Here are my instructions.

Set-up disk for E-Sword

1. Insert the CD into your drive.
2. Load Windows Explorer and click on your cd drive letter.
3. Double click setup 789 and follow the instructions (This loads E-Sword on your c: drive at C;\program files\e-sword) Note: All e-sword files must be loaded into this directory for them to run with E-Sword…
4. Double click ASV, then DRB, then Gill, then Henry, then ISV, then RV. Note: Each time you are loading a bible or a commentary into E-Sword. These will automatically load into the proper folder.
5. Double click on files to be loaded Icon. This will show a lot of files. Go to the first file and click on it. Then go to the last file and while holding down the shift key, click that file. All files will be highlighted. Put your cursor over one of the files and right click. Then click on copy. (This puts all of the files onto the windows clip board.)
6. In windows explorer find the c: drive. (This will be under my computer) click on c: then go down to program files and click on the +. Then go down to e-sword and click on it. In the right screen you should see all of the files in this directory. Click in the center of this window. Then right click and select paste. This will put all of the files from the CD into the E-Sword Directory.
7. There is on more file on the CD. This is a PDF file. Double click on this and it is the documentation for e-sword. You can print it out or read it from the CD.

Does anyone have and suggestions or ideas to make it better?
