The only way that we might ever get the likes of the Navarre or the Ignatius Bible study for NT when it is complete is if they would see the market benifits to be able to sell there wares as an esword module, the number of people visiting and downloading a Catholic Bible Study software program…

I’ve just downloaded e-sword but what do I do now? It only has King James Bible. I looked under downloads but can’t see any Catholic bibles. Also I can’t see any of the items being discussed in this thread. HELP!!

Look at all of the messages in this thread. There are 7 pages. Look at page 6 message #62 from Michael G. He has a Wonderful site on e-snips for Catholics. Also you need to join the e-sword group on Yahoo. same message has a link.
Also at the e-sword site, You are at download. Use the dropdown menu where it says download and you will see a lot of Bibles and other resources. Most are free but some are not. They do have catholic bibles. Also I would recommend downloading some commentaries both from e-sword and e-snip sites. All of these messages in this thread and yahoo messages has all of the sites you will need plus a lot of other info that you will find helpful. I am by far not one of the experts but all of them are on these sites and they are both good and helpful.

Maybe someone can help me before I do a lot of work and there is a better way. I have problems with both step files and top files knowing where a particular book is. Most of the time I have to open a book and look at the index and if it isn’t what I want, I go to the next…On the CD I got from light by design I printed out a list from the web site so that makes it a little easier but can I rename a file such as Wesleyan-4/ ADW. to maybe Dialogue, Antinomian ???

In a .Top file instead of Nicene Fathers vol1 maybe StClements,Polycarp…?

Or I could just make a list with copy and paste in a Word document for an index from the e-sword drop down menu…

Any ideas ?

I’m not sure that Navarre people would see e-Sword as a “Catholic Bible Study Software program”. For starters, the study note feature does not handle Deuterocanonical books correctly.

Secondly, commentaries for GreekEsther and GreekDaniel don’t work correctly.

(I’ve asked Rick to fix this issue a couple of times. Thus far, he has declined to do so. )

Liturgical worship was from the beggining, if you download this file for esword and look at it you will see from the how and why of low church verses High church, from Justin Martyr, to a certain extent the Didicae, the very early church ligturgical rites, that it can be no other way… Take a look at this and than come back and see if we cann’t reach an understanding on this.

Yes this is problematic as well as for any Catholic Commentary. Never the less it still covers roughly 90 % of Catholic Bible and 90% is better than 0 Percent. Hope and pray things change on the esword end for this.

Hi there! If you notice, most of the Catholic modules for e-sword are in .zip format. Kindly EXTRACT OR PUT them all in the E-SWORD FOLDER. Usually it is located in Drive C in the PROGRAM FILES FOLDER.

Once you do this, you’ll notice that the COMMENTARIES and other TOPIC MODULES appear on the RIGHT SIDE. If it is a dictionary, then it appears BENEATH THE BIBLE VERSES.

For the “TOPIC MODULES” OR .TOP, I refer you to the lower right portion of e-sword. There is a DOWN ARROW there. Kindly press that down arrow and select the TOPIC you prefer. AFTER you choose the TOPIC, CLICK THE DOWN ARROW Beside the “SAVE ICON” ON TOP to see the CONTENT of the “TOPIC” you previously chose in the lower right portion of e-sword.

As regards to the COMMENTARIES, when you click a particular verse of the bible, the commentary for that verse will appear on the right side depending on what commentary you’ve chosen.

To read the commentaries WITHOUT CLICKING THE VERSES, CLICK THE YELLOW BOXES WITH BLUE ARROWS ON TOP OF THEM on the right side portion. This will enable you to flip through the commentaries back and forth.

I can’t figure out how to install the extensions! I copied the files in to my E-Sword folder and ran E-Sword but I can’t find th extensions I downloaded.

I went to esnip, downloaded early teachings of the church by saving in the esword folder. However when I tried to open the file I get a message saying Windows does not recognise this file. HELP!

If you are trying to open this directly by clicking on the file which I believe you are because this is the only way windows is going to tell you it does not recognize the file. This file is opened inside the esword program. So start the esword program which if you installed it should open up. If you have unzipped the file make sure it is in the esword folder under the programs folder. on the top right side of esword when open you will see commentary buttons and topic notes, and study notes. hit the topic notes button in esword. on the bottom of the right window in esword will open a little scroll down window to open a variety of topic notes. look for the early church teachings. Up on top on the right side will be a little a scrol down window to select topics you wish to view on the early church fathers.

There is another potential probroblem esword has always up to recent time read all topic files from the esword folder, Some people claim that new and latest version of esword is now getting the topical files and storing them under documments on the c drive. You shoud be able to figure out what folder topics files are stored in by hitting the open tab on the far left top side of the esword window this will tell where the topic files are stored on the computer, and it can be changed look in another folder on hardrive providing you move all the topics to given folder.

the Step files I do not work with too much, so I don’t know what to suggest here. The topic files normally you choose those by going to the right and choosing topic note button on the top right and then use the small scroll down window at the bottom to choose the file you want to open.

You might might want to go to the very top left hand corner click the file button and then hit open this will show all your topic files. as far as the antenicene fathers with a variety of early church fathers in about nine volumes. Either you have to memorize which fathers are recorded in each volume or you might want to the esword folder and rename the file just so you know what is likely to be there and keep the end extenstion.top the same or esword won’t recognize the file without proper extensions at the end.
