Yes, that is what the SC stands for. I did do what you suggested and there are several parishes in my city. I had just found the one I called on google. So I should call the one in closer proximity?

The one closest to you is normally your “home” parish, but it’s possible that it could be another one. When you get in contact with someone at whichever parish you called, ask them to confirm that they are your home parish. I just bring this up because like I said before, the head pastor at your home parish is technically responsible for you and your spiritual growth. He could technically refuse to let you get baptized or confirmed at another parish (highly unlikely that it would happen, but it’s always possible). Contacting your home parish now will save you some future headaches, and it is a courteous thing to do by keeping your home parish “in the loop.”

What is needed is not submission to an external authority, a flawless book, or a rigid church that divides and eliminates, but an inward realization of God that unites…

“You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18).

Some have tried to argue that Jesus did not mean that his Church would be built on Peter but on something else.

Some argue that in this passage there is a minor difference between the Greek term for Peter (Petros) and the term for rock (petra), yet they ignore the obvious explanation: petra, a feminine noun, has simply been modifed to have a masculine ending, since one would not refer to a man (Peter) as feminine. Wow! Is this confirmation or what? I promise you this is like the 3rd time today that I have read this!! As a matter of fact, I was just talking about this not even 15 mins ago w/2 of my children.

I haven’t called the first one back yet, but I did call the one closest to me. The RCIA director had to attend a funeral and she wasn’t sure what time she’d be back. I honestly didn’t expect a call today b/c of that, and understandably so. I feel she will probably call me tomorrow. I’m glad I took your advice and called today! Thank you!

I actually feel sorry for Catholics these days… Its the same thing over and over and over again, it’s like these people can’t do research on what Catholics really believe rather then making assumptions. (My husbands pretty bad about it also lol)

You know what though? I must really be an exception. I was never anti-Catholic. I heard it a lot, though. I never understood, but we can’t understand what we don’t know. Research does wonders:thumbsup:

I hope you are sitting down. Lately i have been struggling a bit due to some work place stress mostly. Just a little while ago i picked up one of my bibles here by my computer and just opened it to see what scripture might pop out at me. You may think i am a hoax but this is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I opened the bible and it was Matthew 16 , and as i was reading there it was Matthew 16:18, “I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.” I almost fell out of my chair. I got so excited because i had just read the posting here this morning of this verse that you and someone was talking about. It is so exciting to know that the Lord is ever so present, so close to us. A bible filled with so many pages and he directed me to open it right there! Have a wonderful Christ filled day.

I truly believe you and the confirmation that this is oh so true is I have GOOSE BUMPS!!! We may not have a burning bush like Moses had or a great, bright light to stop us in the middle of the road like Saul (Paul)…but these small genuine confirmations are good enough to me!!! And it’s amazing too that we get these and we’re online!! I’ve not been having a very good day either, but your post has brought a sense of joy that washed over me while reading. I am a convert to the Catholic Church not because I turned my back on my rather conservative Protestant faith but because the Catholic Church had everything important of the Protestant faith plus everything else.

May I make a suggestion. Read a book called “Gilead” by Marilanne Robinson.

The history of my ancestors is very Puritan. This book made me appreciate and understand the strictness of this way of life in a very beautiful and positive way.

Understanding with love your heritage will help you move forward in your journey to God.
