And how are you referring to the other victims that day? How does the headline read? Christians and miscellaneous killed in bombings ?

Easter worshippers is accurate, it’s specific (it’s less likely to be mixed up with any other attack), it acknowledges the Holy Day and its importance.
That doesn’t really make it more accurate. 3 Churches and 3 Hotels got hit. So your statement does not address those in the hotels. In fact, one of the attacks in a hotel was, of all things, in a buffet line, the guy got into a buffet line and detonated the bomb.

Churches and Hotels would be accurate, that’s what happened if one doesn’t care to say Christians and miscellaneous killed. I think headlines did come out saying exactly that, "Churches and Hotels attacked or bombed" The hotels I read were called “5 star”, so, it would appear Westerners were a target.

Now, we are getting into a bit of semantics. I can sympathize with journalists, sometimes, they do report a slant but other times, they and those who create headlines try to sum things up in a concise way. Sometimes, people will think the headline is unfair.

Prior behavior too plays into this, these were tweets. Maybe they could name some other victimized people in the past, so why not this time? Some posts allude to this.

Of course they used the exact language they wanted to and they deliberately avoided the words Christian and Catholic. That’s the blunt truth. The simpering apologetics on their behalf reflect either pathetic naivete or manifest disingenuity.

Why is the word Easter less significant than Christian or Catholic though? To me Easter seems like a very powerful word to use. It refers to the Passover Lamb who died for our sins and rose. For the life of me I don’t get why people can get so hung up on something that they completely miss the best word in the whole history of words.

Because in contemporary, secular culture, Easter has nothing to do with Christ and everything to do with spring break, candy and Easter egg hunts.
Does anybody really believe that Obama, Clinton, or MSM writers contemplate Christ’s Paschal sacrifice for even a minute? Or that they really care much if at all about slaughtered Catholics around the world?

Yet another ad hominem attack. A novel idea: focus on the argument instead.

What a dismal view of fellow Christians.

Does that equally apply to reference to Christmas worshippers who are in Church for Santa Clause and presents? Or Good Friday worshippers who are there for the seafood feast?

Yes, please don’t accuse others of giving a slap in the face of other Christians. Especially, people here to Christians who are abroad and persecuted. That is an ad hominem attack alright. Please refrain from accusing me as well.

We may have seen Obama and H. Clinton defended though.

I believe it was made clear that for the Pulse Nightclub shooting, that it was the LGTB community that was targeted was made clear. That’s a few posts up on this page.

And it was made clear that Christians were targeted in church on Easter Sunday in this case. That’s 3 important details. “LGBT nightclub” shooting is only 2 details.

I’m sure that if you’d dig around a bit and if the media was a bit more honest the headline should have been, “Christian men beat up Muslims who are part of or support the Islamist organization that carried out the bombings.” I wonder if there are any Sri Lankans on the forums who can clarify whether this is indeed the case? I’ve seen a precedent for this before: one time in my country there was this self-righteous outrage about how two Christian men had beaten up a Syrian refugee. They made it seem as if these two men had just suddenly attacked the man on the street. Turns out the refugee was an ISIS supporter. He was telling the two men that he wanted to kill “all the Nazarenes”

Now that the headlines negative they’re Christians again

That’s bizarre. The New York Times broke the news early after the bombings that Catholic Churches were targeted and the warnings weren’t heeded in Sri Lanka. There was no mention of any target other than the Catholic Church. Why do you think they wasted their time on that report with their hatred of anything Christian let alone Catholic? Very strange. Perhaps a rogue Christian infiltrated their hate machine and got out a publication before the Christian hating bosses could stop them?

They’re not the most honest bunch, yes.

I’d be careful when it comes to refugees, though, sometimes one rotten apple spoils the whole bunch.

Whenever you disagree with a fellow poster, you begin asking where his or her posts decrying abortion or the murders of other Christians are. This is meant to imply that the fellow poster doesn’t genuinely care about these topics. That’s weak and uncharitable.

As for my statement with which you seem so concerned, read the article I posted earlier in this thread. It uses the same language I did and explains why, in fact, hysterics over language are indeed a slap in the face to those Christians whose actual lives are being threatened.

Twitter sweetheart. This thread is about the use of the term Christian by the media on Twitter, that the NYT used the term in an article most people haven’t seen or read because it wasn’t shared on Twitter is irrelevant.
“Sweetheart”? 🤔

I call women “my little chickadee” all the time. They like that!

In Murica, there are still waitresses who call male customers “hon.” My 70ish neighbor lady calls me “baby.” In the South, an older man might address a younger man as “son.” I’ve been addressed as “boss” by young male counter servers and baristas.
And nobody goes into hysterics about any of it, lol!
Honk honk.

We have that attitude here, too. It’s really traumatic for effete leftists when they meet a “deplorable” who is more educated and / or has a higher IQ than they do.
Honk.

How about that? NYT staff pulled the word “Christians” out of the memory hole!
Honk.
