For those who might be tired of the tea and popcorn 🙂 , thought it would be good to move onto Wine and Meat :)…esp. in light of this article , which might have some special relevance in the East- West context too …

Could it not be likely , that The Spirit even allowed Peter to face what he did , in Antioch , as an example of caution , to the undue pressure and fear exerted by the flock , esp. in some Eastern Churches, that keep their leaders from taking the necessary steps to be in communion , with those who profess similar faith …

This seems applicable for the Protestant churches too , who too move away from true communion of the Lord’s grace and its effects of holiness and trust in the Lord’s Church ,from pressures from their flock too .

And the enemy uses same , to make many to distort the truth of what being in communion is about , and argumnets such as above appear , to increase resentments , instead of recognising that the very persons who feel being kept outside of communion are choosing to do so themselves !

The Lord asks us to ‘chew’ on His Body …drink His Blood …such as to chew in His mercy and power and bring the Precious Blood of His merciful ,cleansing love into every situation …again and again, such that , as we chew in the various areas of our pains and divisions , our past failures ,resentments , painful memories , we are also chewing in His mercy , into these events and persons , to see them with compassion , repentance , gratitude … so that the hatreds do not take hold in the Body …

instead , the loving forgiving power of The Spirit …

and The Church rightly tell us that inorder for such to happen , at the best possible level in a manner that would benefit the whole Church and all others too , such and such are the dispositions needed - including trust in The Lord, enough to know that He can give us the grace ,to put trust in His words of absolution , if we have broken our realtionship …that those who have chosen carnal lust over capacity to be chaste and strong , in His grace , have the grace work on those areas , may be through spiritual communion, before they come to Him , with distrust …and so on …

so that we get to be filled with the song of praise and gratitude , a little slice of heaven, to be able to rejoice with an all perfect Mother …in the company of angels and saints …

to say to our Lord again -

Jesus , we trust in You …and may that trust help us to ever increase the appreciation of the Banquet of all that goodness !

For those who might be tired …
FYI - this is a thread about Eastern CATHOLICISM’s relationship with Western THEOLOGY & TRADITION (at least that’s how you started it).

What does that have to do with interfaith communion, the subject of your post?

The thread was not started by me but the moderator was rearranging posts from two difft threads and thus chose the title ,from existing posts - may be a lofty title, that seems rather beyond my reach ! 🙂

Intercommunion is a topic that comes across all our traditions and thus seemed not out of place !

Peace !

And, Josephene , are you in favour of intercommunion with people of churches which do not hold to the teaching that in Communion we ARE receiving the Body and Blood of our Lord and Saviour ?

This Communion that we receive is not symbolic - it IS the Body and Blood of Christ

My , my …shows my limitations in communicating ! 🙂

The intent was to share how the experience of Peter in Antioch is not to be used against The Church but as a learning occasion for those who deny communion based on pressure by their flocks , to those whose faith is very similar - The Catholic Church has shown appropriate wisdom in this area whereas the same cannot be said of the others in similar situation ; from what I have read , the undue authority of the flock is said to be the underlying reason , thus we in The Church can be grateful for being spared same !

Note that this is not the sole basis of intercommunion. There are at least 4 communions of valid Apostolic Churches today that do not have, or at least have very limited, intercommunion.

Are you equating receiving the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony with “choosing carnal lust over chastity and strength”? Unless I’m misunderstanding you, that is very hurtful to both the Eastern Catholics and the Orthodox, not to mention anyone in any apostolic church who is married.

Those words were about use of artificial contraception , esp. among Catholics who are advised to consider it as 'mortal sin ’ , in the realm of sort of denying the Lord’s intended power , to help persons to be strong .

God bless !

Thank you for clarifying 🙂

Well, here we are on July 4th …

Yest .was Feast 0f St.Thomas , of his martyrdom and thus the far greater freedom, in heaven , to help his adopted lands , the whole Church ,esp. in the area of freedom of faith and worship

…and good to ponder on some ( Providential) connections , esp. as we face challenges in area of true freedoms , in The Spirit , to be what we are to be , as adopted children of God .

St.Thomas had set out for the Indies , wanting others to share in the love for His Lord and God …who had ever so gently reminded him of his unbelief …may be to strenghten him to face lands and peoples who too would be in the grips of disbelief in God’s goodness .

The Church he started , like its patron , seemed to have 'disappeared ’ for a while, only to be awakened into the love for Her Lord , for all that He loves …and thus , wanting to touch ever more hearts world over , with the blood and water , of merciful , cleansing truth that The Spirit ever leads His Church into .

Meanwhile , there was Columbus, who had set out for the Indies , wanting to bring The Truth …only to be directed to these lands here …that too needed freedom from the distressing rule of the serpent - a serpent that wanted humans to ever remain in its lie of the worthlessness of our lives !

True freedom was given to those people , esp. when The Father sent the enemy of our enemy - The Woman clothed with the sun …to work in hearts , to truth of our dignity !

augnet.org/default.asp?ipageid=657 - Amazingly, within 50 years of her apparition in Guadalupe, that witness of her love was brought into the Thomas land !

The awareness of human dignity and freedom moves these lands, to celebrate freedom today - a freedom that hopefully would not be divulged from the truth of human dignity .

The British , who thus had to leave the source of cotton for her mills , turns to India …

Unsure how much of other supernatural themes , in the realm of battles against The Church contibutes to subsequent histories and yet, The Lord uses them …

as we see the hands of Providence - India is granted independance , on the Feast of Assumption of Bl.Mother …by a people , that had been trying vehemently to deny their own glorious heritage of connection to this Mother …possibly knowing little how the Patron of the Indies - St.Thomas, had a strong devotion to The Mother …and that as tradition would have it , was the one who even witnessed her Assumption !

May all the fireworks remind us all of these far greater freedoms - of the dignity of human lives and body …in our Lord and God !

And soon, there will be Feast of St.Benedict - on 7/11 🙂 , which also happenes to be 8days from the Feast of St.Thomas !

catholic.org/clife/lent/story.php?id=32801 - on the Great Feast of Divine Mercy Sunday , the Octave of Easter and St.Thomas …and its relevance from O.T times on .

Thus, we live in times of the outpouring of the flood gates of His mercy …for an 'aching mankind ’ , that is beset with so much …esp. in the realm of faith …

And The Lord well prepared His Church for these times - esp. through the Dogmas of His mercy , on papal infallibilty as well as the related two Marian Dogmas of our times .

Papal infallibilty assures us that we can look with trusting love to the Lord’s promise of the gates of hell not prevailng against His Church , in her role , to tend and feed Her sheep , in areas of foundational , guiding , protective truths - a great act of His mercy .

Seems the same also helps us , to see much of the shortcomings of Her children , through the ages , with the eyes of mercy , for we know that the proclamation of infallibilty which is claimed in its very limited manner , also implies the acceptance of the effects of fallen nature , at other levels …all, to be brought into the timeless , eternal realm of His mercy …thus, The Church leading the Way, for Her children , to acknowledge such short comings in themselves too , to be healed by the Divine Healer !

St.Thomas The Twin , also shares in The Feast Day of Octave of Easter which gets celebrated by more persons now , with the veneration of The Image of Mercy , with its two rays -

St.Thomas and St.Benedict - may their prayers help us against the evil of lack of love and trust , in The Lord and His merciful gifts to us , in His Church - esp. the Dogmas for our times on the sacredness of our lives , highlighted esp. in the iconic events of the Immaculate Conception and Assumption of our Mother that The Church has been called to faithfully proclaim and The Lord assures us that we can trust His voice , in Her !

May such be also our gift of gratitude to our Holy Father - esp. from those who can thus make reparation for others who struggle in these areas - wounds in the maternal realm is said to underlie much of what afflicts us , such as in personality disorders !

( rather inexpensive ) medals , with exorcism blessing !

Blessings !
