Oh, before I go Mommy2, I am in Adoration 4 times a week, I attend Mass on sunday, but during Lent I go for 50 days straight.
I attend healing masses, I taught CCD, I volunteer for EWTN, I belong to The Catholic League, I volunteer for 3 churches, I attend Bible class, if my church needs me, I am there. I will do anything for god. Anything. Even to give up my life.
I am still in a state of Grace, so He must be a very loving, patient God. Thank you Jesus. I try and thank him on every thread.
While your resume of sorts is impressive, it isn’t necessary. Nobody here is asking you about your habits in this regard. I have to say however, I am glad you didn’t teach my sons CCD classes. I wouldn’t want my sons to believe that your opinions are the official teachings. The truth of the matter is masturbation is a mortal sin, and it is a disordered act. Sex is a gift from God for married people. Any act outside of a marital union denigrates the holiness of the marriage bed. God’s plan for sexuality in men and women are very clearly defined in the Bible as well as in the CCC.

I am sorry you were given wrong information by a priest, he certainly should know better, but he is fallible, the Church is not and they say that masturbation is a mortal sin…Who are you going to OBEY? I know when I was a single mom, I made a concerted effort to find strong devout Catholic men for my boys to talk to about things “guys” need to talk about. I am sure they didn’t tell my boys this act is OK because Jesus loves them. Of course Jesus loves them, but loving and condoning sinful behavior are two different things. Any sin sans blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is forgivable, even murder… but the sinner must repent and ask to be forgiven. I would rather my sons know they can confess any sin rather than justify them for the sake of their “guilty” feelings. The truth is, if they are sinning they should feel guilty and resolve to ask God for forgiveness and try not to commit the same sin again.

You can say whatever you want, but I don’t think you’ll go to Hell for masturbating. Lighten up. God knows men and woman are human . If it is used in a way not to hurt anyone (no porn etc…), in the privacy of your own room, to me it is not a sin. I’m not saying I practice this, it just sounds so ridiculous when it is a natural act.
Ridiculous? What you said was ridiculous.
Sorry if this is harsh…but hell is never an easy subject.

Masturbation will put you in Hell.

Lighten up? Tighten up.

If you wanna talk about natural acts…lets talk about one.

Eating.

We eat as a part of nature. Sexuality too is a natural act. But it being natural does not mean it is exempt from sin.

The first sin we ever commited was a natural act. Eve ate the apple. Big deal? Why dont you ask Almighty God to lighten up?

All of our sufferings…all of our pain…all of the evils of this world started by eating an apple. Let this register with you for a minute.

Why is masturbation wrong? Well the posters before me have shown why. Why does it matter?

Well put it this way. God Almighty who created the Heavens and the Earth…who gave you personally millions upon millions of blessings (sexuality one of them) asks you only to keep a few simple commandments. In defiance to God…people masturbate.

Masturbation is not that much different from eating an apple…to be honest it sounds worse.

Name a few saints in your head…now think of all the saints that there have been (both recognized and unrecognized). They pray for you 24/7. They intercede and labor for our souls. Yet in their plain sight we masturbate. I shudder to think that WHILE they are praying this horrible sin happens. Well it does.

If Mary the Mother of God was in your room…would you masturbate in front of her? its a natural act so why would she mind?

Don’t say “that’s diffirent”. If you believe Christ would be “more present” if you could see him than if he remained invisible you lack faith.

For the moments of pleasure this natural act gives a person…the chastity of the saints are mocked.

Every saint and virgin who prized their purity and chastity are mocked blatantly when we in the Church millitant masturabte.

It is a serious sin. It will always be a serious sin. And the way you look at it wont change anything.

you can say the chair your sitting in is made of chocolate…your not gonna eat it. you can say its made of thin air…well it sure is supporting you.

Dont blind yourself with human understanding of things. What matters is what God thinks…and what the Church of God teaches.

You raise your kids the way you want, I’ll raise mine how I want.
My younger son is in college, and my older son is a firefighter. Both never did drugs, I was an on hands mother, always there for them etc…God will judge, everyone here should cast the first stone. I am proud I raised my sons as a single parent. Now I suppose you’ll get on me for that too. You are no perfect than I.

I have my share of things I do as well. I take my kids to the nursing home to visit our “adopted” grandma. She an elderly lady with no family and we visit her so she has someone.

I teach CCD, I volunteer to babysit the children during Mass. I, also, attend bible study. We as a family pray the Rosary among other prayers. My kids and I go threw our clothing twice a year and give to the poor.

At christmas time, my kids are allowed to keep only 1 toy they get. The rest go to the local children hospital. We don’t buy toys for the our kids, and we ask relatives not too… However the relative still do so that’s how we handle it.

I do an hour of personal prayer and bible reading daily, I got to the adoration chapel 2 times a week for 45 minutes per visit.

We all have our share! I do what I can the best way that I can! I know that I have failed in a lot of things, and I do confess them to God. I never claimed to be better then you.

I never claimed to be a holy women, and I never claimed to have all the answers. This thread is about masturbation, and masturbation alone.

I have read what the CCC has wrote regarding masturbation. I have read what the Doctrine of Faith has to say about masturbation. I have read what several priest have said about masturbation. Espeically, the last priest that I quoted (the one that upset you).

I understand that the Church teaches it is a mortal sin. I understand why the Church teaches it and in light of that I WILL teach my kids the same things. They are 4 and 5 right now, and this is not a topic for a 4 and 5 year old. However, when they do it older 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, etc…I will be teaching them what the Church teaches on this subject and why the Church teaches this.

I would be using Fr. quote about pure love and true love.

Again thsi is just one area, one topic. I fall short in a lot of the other areas and a lot of other topics. My biggest hurdle right now is lazineess when it comes to housework. I’m just lazy about the housework, and my home is a pig-pen. However, that’s another topic for another thread!

God Bless.

I did not tell you this to impress you, but to tell you of my love for my saviour. You have a nerve to say to me your glad I didn’t teach your boys? I taught CCD for 7 years and the children loved me. This thread has nothing to do with CCD. It is not up to me unless asked, to speak about this with my students.
You really should not judge people Ms. Blestone, it will come back to you. But then again, your so perfect. Only God knows.
My boys confess their sins they go to church. They have an amazing life. Worry about your kids and how many hang-ups they will have as an adult.

Ya, and I noticed in your profile what your interests are. Burning what?? Disgraceful if you ask me. You really can’t talk…

Ya, and I noticed in your profile what your interests are. Burning what?? Disgraceful if you ask me. You really can’t talk…
None of us here can talk.

But it is not “us” that are making up this fact that masturbation is a mortal sin.

Jesus Christ said that it was a mortal sin, ADULTERY. I know you love Jesus Christ, so doesn’t that love mean to OBEY Jesus Christ? Yes, we are to OBEY God. It is HIS Law, not ours.

I think you are just worried now that you didn’t pass this information on to your sons when they were younger. Now all you have to do is swallow your pride and admit to yourself that you were wrong in saying that it is okay to masturbate. PRIDE is a huge no-no.

Sola Roma put it clear that the first sin was only a “natural act” and yet it was a deadly sin.

Sex is also “natural” but only when you put it in God’s terms. To me something “natural” is something that God creates. God does not create something that is not good. I’m sure you don’t think that homosexual acts are “natural” only because God did not intend it to be that way. He created Adam & Eve not Adam & Steve. He created them to procreate; “be fruitful and multiply.” How in the world can one man “multiply” when he’s in a room all by himself?

I ask that you please swallow your pride. You don’t have to let us know, just admit it to yourself. After that, there is only one thing left for me to do is to pray for you. :gopray:

Alegre,
I have two boys and I would in no way tell them it is wrong. It is natural to experiment with your body as a teenager. I don’t know whether they do that or not, but I am pretty sure as they all do. If you teach them it is wrong, then they feel guilty as if they are bad people. I’m sorry but I do not talk about this with them. It is taboo for me and it isn’t a priority.
I am a devout Roman Catholic, and love God with my whole heart, soul and mind. But if you don’t like my views, well as St. Paul said “I am what I am.” My boys are well brought up and confident in their ways. The Holy Spirit will guide them.
Every sunday at Mass, when the priest raises the Host, I always say the same thing. Please don’t take my children from me, I won’t be able to handle it. Point being my oldest son, he’s 26 was in a car accident a few weeks ago where as the other car flipped over and my boy walked away. When I went to the tow yard to see his wrecked car, there was a picture of The Divine Mercy lying on the floor. My boy walked away with nothing. Jesus answered my prayers as He always has.
Sorry to get off track, just an FYI…thank you Lord.

Perhaps you should try reading a little bit about or praying to St. Rita. St. Rita is one of the patrons of the impossible. There is a good reason for this. Her husband was murdered and her two boys were going out to exact their legal right of revenge. (I believe this was in the middle ages, and if you knew a murderer, you could kill him or her). She knew that she could not stop them, she talked to them, tried to convince them otherwise, but they would not stop and would not listen. So she prayed that God would find some way of stopping them from committing this sin. The next day both of her sons were dead. And here is the amazing part.

She rejoiced. She rejoiced because she would rather have them dead and sinless than live and sinful. God had answered her prayer.

Just something to think on.

p.s.- It seems that your post to show love for our Lord did not have the desired effect. I think the reason is people see it as pride.

Beware of pride, especially in thinking that because you love God, which you no doubt do, you cannot offend God. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Not fear that God will smite you for no reason, but fear as in fearing a parent, not wanting to disappoint, etc. Our late Holy Father John Paul II went to confession daily, If someone who loves God that much, can still offend God every day, surely you and I can.

I prayed to St. Rita before. I have some Saints on my wall, like a collage, and she’s one of them.
What do you mean my post to show love for The Lord does not have the desired effect? God knows how much I love Him. I am always visiting with Him. The Holy Spirit already has given me the seven gifts two years ago, and fear is one of them. Do you know when I truly realized that God existed, I was all alone and walked in my church two years ago. There was no one in there so I went up to this life size crucifix and looked at it. Fear overwhelmed me and I had to run out of the church. I thought something was happening to me. So don’t tell me about fear, and don’t tell me about anything else. I just went to confession yesterday. Did you? Again I have to explain that I am not perfect, neither are you, but I do a lot of things for God, I would lay down my life for Him. Would you? Because that is what it is coming down to between the muslim and Christian. I am not afraid to die. Dying to me is a celebration of life.

I don’t think it works that way. The gifts don’t come in one day and then stay with us all the time. We have to pray to the Holy Spirit all the time, every day. Conversion is an every day process. The way that you made that statement sounds like a Protestant saying, “I was saved last year when I accepted Jesus as my Savior.” Doesn’t work that way. I’m not saying that is what happened to you, just that you make it seem that way from your statement.
Fear overwhelmed me and I had to run out of the church. I thought something was happening to me.
I don’t think it’s that kind of fear. Fear should not make you run away from God. It makes you want to obey Him more. It should make you stand in awe of Him.
I just went to confession yesterday. Did you?
Going to confession doesn’t matter ALL the time. I say that because there could be some people that don’t make good confessions. It could be that they don’t do a good examination of conscience. Or maybe they really don’t want to change their ways. I am not putting you in that category though, because I don’t know about how you make your confessions.

BTW, I go to confession AT LEAST every other week, it not EVERY WEEK. Confessing ones VENIEL sins is good practice and besides, who can’t use more Sanctifying Grace? I could use all the Grace I can get. 🙂
Again I have to explain that I am not perfect, neither are you, but I do a lot of things for God, I would lay down my life for Him. Would you?
:yup: ❤️

I agree about dying. But at the same time we should fear hell. But not MORE than we Love God, and certainly not more than we fear God.

Peace and God bless. :gopray:

First of all, stop telling me about what I know. Like I said, I have received the seven gifts from the Holy Spirit 2 years ago, and one of them is fear. Name the other six if you think you know everything. And it certainly is that kind of fear. you have no idea about my calling and i don’t care to share it since you doubt everything that I tell you. I can’t believe as a Catholic, you don’t understand the seven gifts. Obviously you don’t have them. I attend confession once a month as our Lady said to the visionaries at Medjugorje. I don’t care to go every day, it isn’t necessary.
I do not understand why you say I sound like a Protestant. You simply don’t understand my situation.
you will never know how I make my confessions, it’s noones business except between me and Jesus Christ.
Some of you Catholics on here really do not understand what we as truly spiritual people are.
I do not fear Hell (now who sounds like a Protestant), because I have peace in my heart from my Lord. I simply am not going there. Believe me.

I am sure you love God, but most of us see no need to brag about our “devotions” and deeds. I also do not believe I was judging you, I am sorry if you took it that way. I am simply pleased that you didn’t teach CCD to my kids because I think I prefer the theology and religion classes they had in school because they were closer to what I teach at home. I am also sure that the kids you taught love you, that is not what is in question. Your adherence to the magisterium is. I want only the best for my children as any other mother would, and Bella…you are not what I would consider the best for my boys or my girls either for that matter. I never claimed to be perfect, God knows I am not, but what I am is smart enough to know I want only orthodox teachers for my kids. I am glad your boys have an “amazing” life…just think how much more amazing it could be if they knew and followed the proper teachings of the Church! As for hang-ups…there is only one way to free people from these human trappings…obedience to the Father’s plan. I have taught my boys (and girls) that sex is a very special wedding gift from God. It is meant for the married only. My kids have had the benefit of chastity education in school and at home, and for that, I am grateful.

I noticed in your posts, you do alot of stating your opinions… Being Catholic is not about opinions, there are answers to any possible scenario if you take the time to research the Bible and the CCC. Perhaps you may want to refer to these since your pastor is not giving you proper counsel. These are not based on a single person’s opinion…they are Biblically based answers to morality questions and more.

You are being very defensive and therefore fall close to the line of being offensive with your comments.

I know what the gifts of the Holy Spirit are. But I feel I don’t have to “brag” about it as you have been doing in this thread.

With that said this is getting way off topic.

I think you have serious issues you have to deal with so I will pray for you. :gopray:

All I have to say now is that I’m sorry if you got any wrong ideas.

I think this thread made its point. Someone had a question about masturbation and it was answered. There is not much room for OPINIONS here. We posted our answers the way the Church teaches it and I feel this thread has to close now before it really gets out of hand and someone gets hurt. I feel that we have done that to you already, unintentionally of course.

Peace and God bless.

My boys do follow the proper teachings of the church. Because you didn’ like what my priest said, you are very defensive…maybe you really don’t know the answer and assume everything is a sin. I can tell just the type of religious fanatic you are, and those are the worse kinds. I’d not want you near my boys, the’yd be scared to death of burning in hell. good luck.

It wasn’t about opinions Al, but what now two priests have told me. It is my business and I do not wish to share it with someone so angry and judgemental. Good luck. I no longer wish to be in this thread any longer. I am happy and at peace with God, and no one will take that from me.

Bella,
First I will explain some things. When I said your trying to show your love for God did not have the desired effect, I meant when you wrote out everything, it sounded immensly prideful, and that is how it would probably be interpreted.

Second, we are talking about opinions, you have put your faith in two priests opinions, but will not put it in Church Teaching straight from the horses mouth so to speak. We are trying to get you to look at the Catechism, which is the collected teachings of the Catholic Church. The reason for this is, any priest can be wrong, any bishop alone can be wrong, the Church cannot.

As far as you knowing what Fear of the Lord means and the rest of us don’t, Does that sound a little bit prideful to you. You even assumed another poster did not have any of the gifts of the holy spirit. You assumed they did not have knowledge, or understanding, or wisdom, or piety, or counsel, or courage or fear of the Lord. I tell you they at least had to courage to stand up for authentic Church teaching.

I ask you to pray fervrently about the whole peace in your heart and you are not going to hell. Paul said to work out salvation with Fear and Trembling. We all deserve hell. It is only through Mercy that any of us will not go there, and it is presumption (a sin) to say we are going to heaven when we do not know.

As far as the whole confession thing. I did not go today. I have not been in weeks. I have also sinned, though not gravely. I sin daily, and it would be good of me to go to confession every day. As it is, I make an act of Contrition. However, my sinfullness in no way affects this argument. I could be Hitler himself, and that would not make my arguments wrong. Sinfullness can cloud the mind, but it seems that these people disagree with you, and so you say their minds are clouded.

Since you have asked others to name things, I will ask you this.

What are the seven deadly sins, and what is the origin of all sin.

p.s.- You asked me if I would die for Christ, I believe I would, but I also try to LIVE for Him

It wasn’t about opinions Al, but what now two priests have told me. It is my business and I do not wish to share it with someone so angry and judgemental. Good luck. I no longer wish to be in this thread any longer. I am happy and at peace with God, and no one will take that from me.
Bella, I suspect you’re beginning to feel set upon.

But you are correct: it is NOT about opinions. However, what you were told by those two priests amounts to their opinion and it flatly contradicts the teaching of the *Catechism, *which was published to be “a sure and certain norm” for Church teaching.

It is not judgmental to point out a fact. This is a fact.

Nothing that touches the authentic teachings of the faith can in any way be one’s own personal business. These are matters of public teaching.

Bella,
First I will explain some things.

Never have I said I was going to Heaven, ever. That is why there is Purgatory, so we can get to Heaven. I am not going to Hell because of my faith and because of what I do for God. I have not committed any mortal sin.
This whole arguement comes from my saying that masturbation IS NOT a mortal sin. I talked about teenagers and the like, that’s it. I believe everything in The Catechism and no law is changed from 2,000 years ago until now. but I see God as a loving and merciful God, therefore relating to children, they will not be damned.

Corvidae, you really can’t talk, you haven’t gone to confession in how long? Almost sounds like a Protestant saying “I confess to the Father.”
To you it sounded prideful from your misunderstanding, to me it is love of My God.
I understand the seven deadly sins.

Pride, Sloth, Gluttony, Wrath, Envy, Lust, Greed. What’s your point?

Mercy, what my priests told me and how others are misunderstanding is pretty sad. They simply wanted me to know that God is merciful and a loving God and that teenagers probably would not be condemned. That’s it. Why is that so bad?

Well, it took a long time for the word “probably” to appear. God is merciful and loving. The message that came across was that it was OK for teenagers to masturbate; that it wasn’t a big deal.

The message that came across was that because a priest said something, it trumped the teaching of the Church.

The message that came across was that venial sin is nothing to worry about and that the mitigating factors that detract from the gravity of the matter should be presumed to be the rule rather than the exception.

Lets see, by Church Law I need to go once a year. So why can I not talk? I tried to make the point that even if I were Hitler I could still talk, but it seems you disregard me because I am more of a sinner than you. How sad.

I am sorry if I am more sinful than you, or you believe that I sound like a protestant. I try to do what I can. I have not been to confession in about two months, anyone want to judge me on that? It seems that is what you are doing, telling me to shut up because I am sinful.

You said that Masturbation IS NOT a mortal sin. Those on this thread are saying, it CAN BE, and it seems usually is. That is where the argument comes from. And you do not believe everything in the Catechism if you believe that Masturbation IS NOT a mortal sin. The Catechism states that it can be and as mercygate shows, usually is.

Ok, the reason I asked you to state the seven deadly sins is this, wouldn’t Masturbation fall under Lust? Lust is common in many teens, that does not make it right. Also, Pride is the first sin, and the origin of all sins. It seems that you have told a lot of people that because they are sinners, they cannot talk on this subject. That is pride.
