I am not sure what you mean by format. I originally listened on c-band but it has done bye bye. I listen on the internet now. His show has change over time. Basically it is a call in show where you talk to “Uncle Bob”. He does tell some interesting stories. There is also a chat room where fans talk to each other about the show while it is on. There is a camera so you see him and his co-host.

Hope your mom had a wonderful birthday.

My sweet sister has some nice neighbors. The mother is turning 103 this August and her daughter is 79. Can you imagine still living in your own home at 103?! Heck many are in nursing homes by their mid 80s.

My neighbor is the sweetest lady.She is 86 and still drives and gardens.

I am not hijacking your thread Meltzerboy,but just sharing,

Mary Ann Mobley who died last December was first cast as the Girl from U.N.C.L.E. She did the pilot. She was then replace with Stefanie Powers. I like the pilot hated the series. It was a mistake imo when they changed the format from the pilot. It did not last long. It was cancelled after 29 episodes.

I don’t remember the pilot with Mary Ann Mobly. Wasn’t she a Miss America also? I wonder why they changed the actress and the format.

I rememberr her in The Miracle Worker and she played Helen Keller as a young girl. Also The Patty Duke Show. I always thought she was a good actress.

Patty Duke’s portrayal of Helen Keller as a child was probably the best work she ever did. Anne Bancroft was also superb in The Miracle Worker as Helen Keller’s teacher, Anne Sullivan.

yes she was very good too! I just watched Anne the other night in The Graduate. I probably had not seen that movie in like 30 years.
Pretty risque for the 60’s!

I love The Graduate; it really takes me back to my youth. I think it was Dustin Hoffman’s first film, as well as Katharine Ross’, and Anne Bancroft gave a smashing performance as Mrs. Robinson. Not to mention the Simon and Garfunkel soundtrack. That year, 1967, there were so many great films competing for the Oscar in addition to The Graduate: In the Heat of the Night, with Rod Steiger and Sidney Poitier, which won; Bonnie and Clyde, with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway (her debut); the Truman Capote crime film, In Cold Blood, starring Robert Blake; Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, featuring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn; Cool Hand Luke, starring Paul Newman; Wait until Dark, with Audrey Hepburn; Barefoot in the Park, starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda; and several others. A wonderful year for movies, somewhat similar to 1939.

I have seen each one of the films you mentioned except Barefoot in thePark. Yes 1967 was a very good year for films. They don’t make movies like that anynore. Cool Hand Luke was cinema at its best along with Bonnie and Clyde. Wait Until Dark is one of my favorite Hepburn films. Great performances by Efrem Zimbalist Jr., Richard Crenna and Alan Arkin too.
I think I saw a young Richard Dreyfuss in a scene from The Graduate. After Katherine Ross screams inside an apartment or dorm room, several young men come running to the door to see what is going on. I believe Dreyfuss is one of the young men and he twice asks if he should call the police. I did a doubletake!

You may be right about Richard Dreyfuss. I’ll have to look closer next time I see the film. Once movies had a coherent story line and an interesting plot, characters whom you could care about and who were fully developed by more-than-competent actors, and violence and nudity only insofar as they were integral to the plot, rather than gratuitous. Today, well, there isn’t much of anything except shock value.

I agree. other than the animated movies, the movie industry anymore has really gone downhill. they rely on the action movie or comic book hero movie and the quality of acting, plot development, dialogue (sometimes the vulgarity is just awful), graphic and the use of gore and violence is overdone. This is why I am perfectly happy to watch my old movies over and over again! I just do not get tired of watching good actors act!
 
Thanks to all who wished my mom a happy birthday :). She still lives in the home where I grew up, and hopes to do so for a long time to come!

Jerry Maren, one of the Munchkins, and the last known surviving cast member from the Wizard of Oz, is 95 years old.

I was at Holy Cross Cemetery near my home yesterday, and chanced upon the grave of cinematographer Hans Koenekamp. He was 100 years old when he died in 1992, and he had filmed Charlie Chaplain and Gloria Swanson in the silent era. His later credits included “Moby Dick”, “The Treasure of Sierra Madre”, and “The Spirit of St. Louis”.

Other celebrities buried at Holy Cross include: Lawrence Welk, John Candy, Mary Astor, Bela Lugosi, Fred MacMurry, Rita Haywoth, Jimmy Durante, Jackie Coogan, Jack Haley, and Bing Crosby. A cavalcade of stars!
