**Moreover, the term “Pro-choice” is really a misnomer, because **it assumes that choices have no qualitative difference. ****In other words, “Pro-choice” implies that the choice to abort or the choice to spare a child’s life are no different— neither choice is good or evil; it’s just one’s “personal decision,” after all.

This is the primary point IMO. That is why I constantly remind people of slavery in our history. Can you imagine if the pro-slavery party… oh hey…same party! 😛 …had come up with “pro-choice” back then? Would anyone have thought they weren’t pro-slavery, when their argument was that the states should have a right to choose? Of course not!

When one of your “choices” is intrinsically evil, the laws should be changed to take away that “choice.” Certainly, the killing of an innocent, unborn, human child is worthy of such legal protection. It isn’t enough to just work towards educating others and trying to decrease the killing. 😦

Actually, there were many who said the very issue was the right of the States, not slavery, pro-choice, as it were.

You though him to be that shallow?

His Eminence didn’t propose all those things across the board.

Your choice and a valid one. I myself are involved in a number of programs as a donor to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, visit the imprisoned, etc. You know, some of the things Jesus asked us to do. 🤷
My objection to expanding the consistent life ethic to such a large cadre of social programs is that his focus, at least with respect to the quotes I used, was on the government’s role in these programs. I agree that we as Catholics cannot demand a public policy that focuses exclusively on unborn babies. But I think that the government should also show the same consistency and protect life at all stages, not just certain specified groups. At this point we seem to have the worst of all worlds with a government that promotes the killing of the unborn at any time and for no reason, while simultaneously expanding government social services IMO way beyond the truly needy.

Also I have absolutely no problem with encouraging Catholics to awareness that we must be consistent in our approach and protecting life outside of the womb is also sacred. So I too am involved in programs that feed the hungry, clothe the naked, etc. I don’t recall Jesus saying “Let the government provide.”

Yes, there were. That was my point. Were such people just “pro-choice,” or were they on the side of slavery? How do you think the abolitionists and/or the general public would have responded to that question?

Clearly, those clamoring for the right of the states to have slavery were pro-slavery, even if they were not slaveholders themselves.

Marist poll: Obama 48, Romney 46

Not real good news for Obama. Obama is the one who can spend (and is spending) tons of money right now. He needs to convince America the Romney is simply not a viable candidate. And he needs to do it early before the GOP convention. After that, Romney can spend his General Election funds.

Interesting. You have a sitting president who is pro-abortion to the extreme. He has antagonized the Catholic Church with the contraception mandate. He has pushed through a very unpopular healthcare measure which turns out to be a massive tax. He insults small business owners. He tells people that they cling to their guns and religion. He sits in a black liberation theology congregation for 20 years listening to hate speeches with the “pastor” as his spiritual director. He is closely linked with George Soros and domestic terrorist Bill Ayers. He stauchly supports gay marriage and holds gay pride events in the White House and the Pentagon. The economy continues to free fall.

And he still leads by two percentage points!!!

That is ludicrous!!!

It should read: Romney 99, Obama 1

May our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ lift the veil of blindess from the people’s eyes to deliver us from this scourge.

But Bush is the reason Obama believes this stuff. 😃

Registered voters were polled, they are never as reliable as polls done on likely voters. Polls done on likely voters usually show Romney with a lead, so the fact that they are so close in a poll done on registered voters is interesting

This is something I wonder about every day. Even if you are a Democrat, no one can ignore the corruption, the economic destruction, the executive over reaching, the arrogance about all of us great unwashed clinging to our guns and God. Then there’s Obamacare, the Stimulus, Dodd Frank. It is a target rich environment. As Thomas Sowell said, his little sermonettes are rather tiresome given that nothing he’s done has worked.

I am cheered only by history. At the same time Reagan led Carter by only a few points and the race actually tightened up in August. The Reagan won by a landslide. I’m not praying for a landslide, just a win! I also think that many who claim to be ‘for’ Obama publically will change when in the voting booth. Those who believed in him do not want to admit a mistake and others don’t want to be thought of as racist. Even if polls are supposedly confidential, we know that it’s much harder to VOICE an opinion particularly to a stranger than to hold it inside and then take action. What I do fear is that there is no bounds to what they will do to maintain power. The Chicago Machine, the corrupt tactics that have run that city into the toilet are expanded throughout the country. Last time it was ACORN and dead people voting and the New Black Panthers…who knows what they are planning this time.

Having lived through dreadful presidents like Nixon and Carter and frankly even Johnson who sent us down this path to Nanny Land, I am daily astonished by how much WORSE Obama has been for this country.

I pray for our country every day, many times a day. May the people of this country realize what they did to us and change their ways!

Yes. With God, all things are possible. We need to continue praying that Christ will lift the veil from the blind…so that the scales will fall away from their eyes.

Four more years of Obama would be catastophic. 😦

Never underestimate the stupidity of some people:eek:

There is something more going on than just ignorance. You would think that the economy alone would be enough to end his reign. In fact, prior to his first election…any one event… “reverend” Wright…or Soros…or Ayers…or his complete inexperience and voting record in the senate…etc…would have been enough to end the hopes of any other candidate----democrat or republican. Yet he is like teflon! Nothing sticks! It is like a veil of blindness and apathy that has covered the people. America needs to wake up!

I believe prayer is the only way.

Oh believe me I don’t. I heard one interesting discussion on how to approach former Obama supporters who are having second thoughts (this should be ALL of them 😉 ). The speaker suggested strongly not to focus on "How could you be so foolish, gullible, blind…fill in the blank here. It is important not to focus on THEIR mistake so to speak but to focus on “Obama didn’t keep the promises he made to you and everyone else.”

If you tell people they were fools or fooled by Obama, they start to get defensive and may try to vindicate their original vote by sticking with the same road to nowhere. Instead make Obama’s failure to keep his promises the issue.

In my office the three admin people all voted for Obama. They are now seeing the light. But I’m VERY careful not to say what I think and that is many people were not paying attention to what he said and what he had (not!) done in the past but projected onto him THEIR aspirations for this country.

Too many mistake charisma and excitement for leadership skills and executive ability. Let’s hope they won’t get fooled again…
