Nah. Folks can jaw-jaw all the way to the election, but I’m certain that 99.9 % of voters here have already made up their minds. If one intends to vote Democratic, I see no one about to change his or her mind, and if the GOP is one’s choice, then it is equally unlikely that one will switch to Obama.

BTW, I see no “debate” whatever here. The conservatives present their conservative viewpoint, and the liberals theirs. Set in stone except for negligible details. If nothing else, personal pride prevents a Road to Damascus conversion hereabouts. 🤷
Does it matter? I like to read other people’s points of view. It has nothing to do with pride. (unless you are talking about yourself)?? 😛

And, these comments bring what to the discussion, exactly? No pride on your part?

One person’s right wing extremist is another person’s God-loving, freedom-loving patriot. 🤷
Yup. It all depends on where you stand. Anyone who thinks Obama is such a liberal must be standing waaaayyyyy over on the right and looking at him from that perspective. There is no other way to account for the distortion.

Really, WHOSE liberty has he actually infringed upon? Has he taken away YOUR guns? Have YOUR federal taxes gone up under his administration? Will YOU have to pay a tax penalty for refusing to buy health insurance? What can YOU no longer do or say because of his policies?

He did not sign the Patriot Act - George Bush did that.

I believe Obama is a patriot & loves this country and believes government has a responsibility to maintain a civil society. I don’t know about Romney. Can an “empty-suit” be a patriot?

I hear that if Ron Paul wins Nebraska, he could challenge Romney for the nomination. That be fun! 🙂

I do, too, except that points of view regarding the election tend to get narrower and narrower.

Ouch!

What I meant is that if someone had a real change of heart about whom to vote for, they’d not likely say so. It would show a form of weakness, I think.

I am a dyed in the wool libertarian, so I am not sure if I qualify to be put into any of those boxes you’ve described.

Obama loves the idea of what he thinks he can turn America into. He has been quite open about the fact that he doesn’t like the policies, the economic system, most of the people, the Constitution as written, our political process. Why else would he vow to “fundamentally transform America” if he is an America loving patriot? Your fanatical devotion to Progressive ideology has sincerely compromised your ability to see things objectively.

What discussion? You mean “presentation.” Lefties present their POV, the righties theirs, and hearts aren’t being changed by “discussion” IMO. Cynical on my part, but I’m not trying to be Mary Sunshine. 🙂

I guess that makes the Pope a “right wing extremist”. Jesus will surely make Pope Benedict burn in hell for not buying into the liberal globalist agenda lock, stock and barrel.
I love how you guys feed off of each other.

“Person A” creates a straw-men that has nothing to do with reality and then “Person B” adds to the distortion with some equally outrageous comment. Next thing you know, Obama is going to France for the 4th of July.

It is really a fascinating portrait in self delusion.

No. You are trying to be the elitist, above-the-fray, liberal by pointing out the pointless discussion of the common folk. More Marie Antoinette than Mary Sunshine…“let them eat cake.” 🙂

Bare assertion fallacy, presented as fact.

“WHOSE liberty has he actually infringed upon?”

Well, according the the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Catholic institutions who would be forced to support his plans for “free” contraception and abortofacient birth control.

He did not sign the Patriot Act - George Bush did that.
But he did extend every single portion of it…repeatedly, after campaigning against it.

Plus, we now have extrajudicial drone strikes on US citizens, new expanded executive powers under the National Defense Authorization Act. Winning!

I don’t doubt Obama is a patriot and believes he is helping this country, and I also don’t doubt he’s blind to the fact how much his policies have hurt this country.

Questioning someone’s patriotism? Not charitable. This is beneath you, bella.

I admit that few hearts are changed on an anonymous internets forum, but the kvetching does wonders for my blood pressure! 👍

Thanks, I think.

He’s working on it. He said he would have more leeway when he gets elected again.
He did not sign the Patriot Act - George Bush did that.
That’s right. Bush didit.

I think Obama was the empty suit here when he first got elected. Romney was governor of MA.
I hear that if Ron Paul wins Nebraska, he could challenge Romney for the nomination. That be fun! 🙂
Whatever floats your boat. 🤷

I am above the fray because there is no fray. Yes, most of the discussion is pointless IMO - a lot of “me, too-ism.” From both sides. Do I think that there’s anything any lefty can say that will have you convert to voting for Obama? Absolutely not! And what can anyone on the right say that will make Bellasbane a Romney fan? Equally nothing.

Folks make their presentations, but none should actually believe that hearts will be changed. Positions - mine, yours, his, and hers are chiseled in stone.

Some of my views have been influenced by my fellow posters on CAF…even the elitists. 🙂

I guess we should just stop discussing things then, since it is a complete waste of time to read other people’s views.

Oh wait…why are you still in this useless thread? 😛

Well then, it is of some benefit, if only to blow off steam. Based on your comment, I’ll back off on what I would have considered an otherwise worthless exercise. 👍

There’s a difference between reading and noting the views of others, and discussing them. I’m all for the former. 🙂
